They lived in Laurel County, Kentucky. Rice Thomas was born 4 Nov. 1883 in Laurel County and died 15 May 1966 Castlewood, Russell County, VA. He was the fith child and fourth son of Lafayette Thomas and Elizabeth Jane Issacs. He is listed in the Laurel County 1896 school census District 27. I have not found him in the 1900 Laurel County Census. Rice and family are listed in the 1910 Census for Burnwell, Kanawha Co. WV. He and family are listed in the 1920 and 1930 Census for Dante, Russell County, VA. Della Mae Johnson was born 28 Feb 1889 in Elliott County and died 28 Feb 1957 at Dante, Russell County, VA. She was the third child and second daughter of Mason Lafayette Johnson and Ellen Haney. She is listed in the Carter County School Census for years 1896-1897. She is listed in the 1900 Census for Carter County, KY in her father's household. Rice Thomas was a Coal Miner in Kentucky, West Virginia, and Virginia. He told me that he started in Kentucky at the age of eleven. My mother and I both were born in his house at Dante, VA.
