    3. I don't suppose anyone out there is researching the Johnson name in Connecticut, the Waterford/New London County area to be exact. I am looking for the family of a James (James W.) Johnson. He was born in 1820, probably in Waterford. On May 26, 1844 he married Hannah Lester Beebe at the First Baptist Church, Waterford, and he died October 14, 1915, also in Waterford, at the age of 95. I have both the marriage record and the death certificate, but his parents are not listed. I have not been able to find his birth records. Hannah is easy, as she came from a very distinguished family. Several times over the years (before she passed on), my grandmother told me she had seen a document which stated that James Johnson was a "bound boy". This was a fairly common practice in New England; families of lesser means would do this so that their children might learn a valuable trade. James became a stonemason. My grandmother had also told me that Hannah's parents opposed the marriage, because she was marrying beneath her station. Well, they were married for 55 years until Hannah's death on July 15, 1899. They had three children: Annie, Alonzo Mortimer, and Louise. Alonzo Mortimer Johnson was my great great grandfather. I don't know about Annie, but Louise married Elias Bishop and had two sons, and Alonzo married Annie Maria Greenfield, and had two sons and a daughter. -Pat. Wary
