I'm not sure if this is my line or not. Delia Ann Duke Johnson's grandfather was Shadrack Duke (b. 4/21/1769 in Warren Co., NC, d. 5/15/1833 in Old Starksburg, Lee Co., GA). He was the s/o Benjamin Duke (b. abt 1718, d. 7/25/1801 in Burke Co., GA.). Shadrack is the only child I have listed for Benjamin. I am sure there were probably more children of Benjamin, but I don't have any other names of children. I think the Dukes came originally from VA as Warren Co, NC is right on the line between VA and NC. Warren Co was formed from Bute Co. in 1799. So I don't know if the line you are checking is in mine or not. It could well be if his father's name was Benjamin Duke or John Duke (father of Benjamin and Simon Duke). Funny how many wound up in Upson Co.. The Dukes are my fathers line. My mother was a Torbert and there are still some Torberts living in Upson Co. today. My aunt Ruth Torbert married Marion Barron from Upson Co.. His father of a preacher there and Uncle Marion was a preacher in Baxley, GA.
