WILLIAM 'TOBE' JOHNSON was born Bet. 1813 - 1819 in Green Co., TN, and died April 30, 1862 in Cumberland Ford, KY (Now named Pikeville). He married (1) MARY A. ?. She was born 1847. He married (2) SARAH JANE FORTNER/ FAULKNER March 01, 1842 in Claiborn County, Tenessee, daughter of JONATHAN FAULKNER and MARGRET FALLS. She was born 1825 in Greene Co., Tennessee, and died 1890 in Claiborne Co. Tennesee. William joined the Federal Forces Febuary 10, 1862 at Claiborne Co., TN at the beginning of the Civil War. He was a PVT. in Company E., 2nd Regt. TN INF. U.S.A. He died in a hospital at Cumberland Ford, Kentucky (now Pikeville) April 30, 1862 Cause of death unknown. He is buried at Cumberland Ford, Kentucky. Sarah Jane Fortner Johnson was enumerated in 1880 living in the household of Isaac Johnson, her youngest son. Received 30 day furlough sometime in Aug 1862 to return home due to illness. Unable to return due to diarrhea and cough. He died at his mother's residence in Claiborne Co TN 17 Oct 1863. ii.
