My brickwall JOHNSON's is James Johnson b: VA ??. Wife(s) unknown. Had at least 5 kids: Lewis, William, Francis b: abt 1812, James, and Jane. I have a little info on 3 of the kids. JOHNSON m: Clementine TOWNSEND Francis JOHNSON b: abt 1812 in IL d: October 12, 1867 in Kimble Co., TX married Elizabeth TOWNSEND. Clementine and Elizabeth b: abt 1821 in McIntosh, GA in Liberty Co. were the daughters of Thomas Roderick TOWNSEND and Nancy Pamelia Ann DEAN.
It has been said that Johnsons are from Sweden. But we are also from Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, all of Scandinavia, Germany (maybe spelled Johansson or Jonsson or mangled from Jorganson), and Normandy. Its been reported that there was a Johnson with the Norman invaders of England in 1066. I think its true that Johnsons populate the whole earth today. Many times I figure any family tree that doesn't show Johnsons is just incomplete... It may be that some of the English Johnsons came down from Viking invaders long before 1066, but in old English Johnstone meant the estate and many servants took that as their name. The prefix Fitz in some eras of old English meant "son of" also to confuse the issue. Worse confusion comes from Scandinavia where until about a century ago the practice was to use SON as a suffix the father's given name (Dotter for girls), so the last name of children of Sven Larson would be Svenson and Svendotter. The last name didn't carry through the generations unless the first name did too. Gerald J.
Not really a brick wall but someone that I am interested in finding more information about. He and my grandmother, his cousin, corresponded for a number of years and exchanging photo postcards. I have scanned copies of a number of him and his family, children, and surrounding area--Fayette and Albertville, AL. Here is what I know of him. His name was J. Willie Johnson. He signed his letters as J. Willie. He took a number of pictures of himself wearing a Fez. I guess popular at that time. He was apparently a professional photographer who ran a photography studio in Fayette, AL during the time frame. He had at least three children a boy and a girl with the names Vilal (the boy I think) and Florina??? and another child, Ambody???? (probably born in Albertville, AL about 1908-1909) Any information would be greatly appreciated. BJ
