According to a newspaper article in the Dyersburg Mirror in 1973, Dyersburg, Tennessee, Thomas Johnson and his family moved to Dyer County from Virginia in the late 1840's. He and his wife had children named Mary, Betty, Neely, Claudious and Dick. There were probably more. Thomas Johnson is my gggrandfather and Neely Johnson is my ggrandfather. The 1850 Census shows Thomas Johnson's birthplace as North Carolina and he was born in 1812. I am trying to make a link with Thomas Johnson's family to Virginia and/or North Carolina. Has anyone done any research on their Johnson family showing this branch migrating to Tennessee? My problem is that Johnson is a common name and Thomas is the most common name it seems for men in our family. I am a novice at this and don't know how to find this link to the East Coast.
