BJ If you would like to obtain Birth, Death or Marriage Certificates from the date they commenced in 1837 we suggest you contact Abbots Technology. This is the cheapest and fastest way to obtain certificates from overseas and we have found them fast, reliable, accurate and trustworthy. An excellent series of tutorials on what can be found on those certificates can be found at: http://www.dixons.clara.co.uk/Certificates/indexbd.htm SCOTTISH AND IRISH RECORDS: An excellent resource for obtaining records from Scotland is General Records Office at http://www.open.gov.uk/gros/groshome.htm . It has a fully searchable index of Scottish birth and marriage records from 1553 to 1897, and death records from 1855 to 1897. It can be a bit difficult to use but well worth the effort. Please go to the FAQ section on it first. Searching for Irish records can be a daunting, but not a totally insurmountable task! Censuses of the whole island (of Ireland) were taken in 1821, 1831, 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, 1901 and 1911. The first four were largely destroyed in a fire in the Public Records Office (Four Courts) in 1922, some small parts of it do exist like our Antrim records. Those for 1861 and 1871 were destroyed by Government order! An excellent list of substitutes for these censuses can be found at http://www.rootsweb.com/~fianna/guide/cen2.html If you are looking for ancestors from Cork or Kerry you may be in luck! Dr. Albert E. Casey complied the 16 volume series of books called (and this is really the name of it!) O'Kief, Coshe Mang, Slieve Lougher and the Upper Blackwater in Ireland . It is the motherlode for those who seek persons from that area of Ireland!
