    1. [JOHNSON] Johnson Family Research
    2. Hello, I am new to the Johnson Family List. I am looking for information on two sets of Johnson's. The first family I am researching begins with a man names William Johnson. He married my GGGG Aunt, Elizabeth Whittenberg (b. 1823). I only know of one child born to this marriage, Daniel Whittenberg Johnson. Daniel married Mary Jane Luster (b. 11-28-1849). They had 7 children: Jennie, Andrew, Clara, Guy, Winnie, Mae, Fannie and Irene. The second set on Johnson's I am researching begins with a Ben F. Johnson. He was born January 4, 1860 in Prentice County, MS. He married my GG Aunt, Sarah Catherine Whittenberg (b. 5-28-1866) They had four children: Florence Eva (b. 2-20-1892), Ruth Adelia (b. 7-18-1895), Bennie Atwood (b. 10-9-1897) and Elbert Guy (b. 2-10-1901). If anyone has any information about either one of these family concerning their parents, children or background information, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Alan

    3. http://www.brianmiller.freeserve.co.uk ***************************** Hi all. This goes out to the more experienced in the field of family history research, or maybe not. My hunch is this. My gg grandfather Wheatley Gray JOHNSON born 1850 in Cramlington, baptised St Andrews Newcastle upon Tyne. The christian name Wheatley is unusual, so I thought it easy to check out, and so it was. There was only one Wheatley in the IGI of Northumberland and Durham. However the surname was not JOHNSON, but GRAY. Would it be safe to assume that Wheatley GRAY born 1796 in Lanchester to John & Elizabeth GRAY, is the grandfather of Wheatey Gray JOHNSON b 1850. _____________________________________ FACTS THAT I HAVE. Joseph JOHNSON/Elizabeth parents of Wheatley Gray JOHNSON 1850 Cramlington.Bat 1850 St Andrews Newcastle. _____________________________________ THE GUESS WORK My thoughts were as follows: My rule of thumb is four generations per 100 years. Although many others have their own thoughts. John GRAY married Elizabeth ? circa 1795. Wheatley GRAY born Oct 2, 1796 Lanchester. Wheatley GRAY marries ? circa 1820/25 Wheatley GRAY has daughter called Elizabeth GRAY. circa 1825 Elizabeth GRAY marries Joseph JOHNSON circa 1845 Their second child is named Wheatley Gray JOHNSON, and takes the name of his grandfather which was common of that day I am told. Does the list think my guess work way off the mark, or do you think I'm on the correct track. Very best regards Brian Miller, IBSSG. __________________________________ Information on the following at the above site: AKENHEAD - ARKLE - CAMPBELL - CLARKE - COXON - GRAY - HALL - HEDLEY - JOHNSON - MILLARD - MILLER - MONK - MURRAY - PARHAM - REAHEAD - STEWARD - STOREY - WATSON - WRIGHT __________________________________

    1. [JOHNSON] Theory to research
    2. Frank Harrison
    3. I am with Emma on adding theory to your family history. All the good theory that I added to my family history over the last 20 years proved to be incorrect some years later. It sure looked good when I put my theory in but in about all the cases they proved to be wrong. Theory is something very good to work on but not to add in your family history. This is just my 2 cent worth after having to tell people a few time that I was wrong. So now I keep the theory to myself and try and prove it correct or incorrect. 2. Hello, I'm a newby to the JOHNSON list. Just yesterday I received a death certificate for my husband's gr.grandmother. On it was her mother's name. The mother was Laura JOHNSON. Guesstimating, she was born ca 1810, but I don't know where. She married Philip H. FINGER prior to 1831 when her first child, Egbert FINGERr, was born. She had a second and last child, Mary FINGER, in May 1834. She was dead before 1847 when Philip remarried. Mary's death certificate stated that her father, Philip, was born in Gallatinville, Columbia Co., NY. Mary herself spent her entire life in Gallatinville. I assume her parents were married there, but I've not had time to check this. If so, then perhaps Laura was also a native of Gallatinville. I checked the AIS and located several JOHNSONs who lived in Gallatinville and they may be related to Laura. But again, this is so new I haven't had time to check at the FHC. If there are Columbia Co., NY JOHNSONs on the list, I would like to correspond. I will surely gathered enormous amounts of non-Laura material before I find Laura and then will share with others.
