I am looking for the parents or siblings of Burwell Johnson in NC about 1790. Spouse unknown. He moved to Maury Co., TN by 1812. Burwell is listed on the Tax list along with son Wiley (b.abt. 1797-NC) . He lived in Maury Co. at least until 1830---he is not listed on anything that, I can find after that. Wiley Sr., Martha Nichols from Williamson Co., TN in 1819. Known children were Wiley William Jr. born 1844, Martha born abt.1831, and William Wiley born in 1849--all in Maury Co. Wiley Jr. fought in the Civil War. He married Mary Frances (or Jane) Huff/Hough from Williamson County----trying to prove that her mother and father were William L. Hough and Ann Pace. They were the only Hough's at the time in Williamson Co. (that I could find). Ann Pace's parents were Thomas Pace and Catherine Donahoo. William Wiley married Margaret H. Atkeison (parents were W. R. Atkeison and Pricilla Cranford. In William's obit -- it states Mrs. Johnson owns forty acres in Cranford Hollow, (TN). He is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Maury Co. Wiley Jr. is buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Weakley Co., TN. One last note--I think that Martha Johnson may have married a James Watkins or Watson. Any help would be greatly appreciated---I haven't been able to find anything more on these people. I have the death certificate of Mary Huff/Hough---I thought for sure her parents names would be on it--the son that she lived with when she died supplied the information and he put he didn't know the parents. I can't imagine not knowing who my grandparents. And I wasn't even raised by my parents! I was so disappointed. Sheri
It has been said that Johnsons are from Sweden. But we are also from Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, all of Scandinavia, Germany (maybe spelled Johansson or Jonsson or mangled from Jorganson), and Normandy. Its been reported that there was a Johnson with the Norman invaders of England in 1066. I think its true that Johnsons populate the whole earth today. Many times I figure any family tree that doesn't show Johnsons is just incomplete... It may be that some of the English Johnsons came down from Viking invaders long before 1066, but in old English Johnstone meant the estate and many servants took that as their name. The prefix Fitz in some eras of old English meant "son of" also to confuse the issue. Worse confusion comes from Scandinavia where until about a century ago the practice was to use SON as a suffix the father's given name (Dotter for girls), so the last name of children of Sven Larson would be Svenson and Svendotter. The last name didn't carry through the generations unless the first name did too. Gerald J.

Seeking family information of Wm. T. Johnson, born about 1847 in Oglethorpe County, GA, later lived in Athens, Clarke Co., GA. Married 8/13/1868 to Mary E. Banks. Had children Susan, Thomas Howard, Robert L., Walter E., Laura, Annie, Ellen F., and Charles Wm. I think Wm. T. was the son of William H. Johnson, born in GA, place unknown, about 1818. Siblings of William T. would have been Sarah, b. @1844; John H., b @ 1846; Emma, b @ 1855; and Franklin, b @ 1856. Will be most appreciative for any information related to these families.
<< >Hi, > >Can anyone help with obtaining a marriage certificate? > >Winifred J.T. HILL and John R.B. JOHNSON marriage date May 30, 1823 >Madison County, Alabama. > >Can reimburse for postage, copies, etc. > >Kathy in Humboldt >God Bless > > >> Hi Kathy If you live in Alabama you can request copies of census, marriage records etc from the Alabama Department of Archives and History (ADAH) by mail or email and they will send you the information with a bill. I believe for Alabama residents fees are something like a dollar plus so much per photocopy on what they have. The most I've spent on one person was nine dollars and got a copy of a handwritten letter about his military service. I've also written to Probate Offices for records too - I did call Fresno California before I wrote and was able to get the address and fee and got a death record very quickly. Good Hunting Doris Mayer Reece huntin' Vincent Johns(t)on in Chattooga GA found him in 1850 census there but would like information earlier (he was born in 1784 NC)

Hi to all, Just wanted to share with you in case you haven't tried this. In my search of Birth records for TX I have found if you enter mothers maiden Name only in the search field you will find who she married and the children she had. Works great for the Female side when you don't know who she might have married. I found an uncle's children in here from 4 different mothers. I only knew of 3 of the mothers. Also found my mother's half aunt and half uncle by using this index. Just thought I would share. Try it. Leave all fields blank except for mothers maiden surname. I have a question to ask you. I have a John Johnson great great grandfather. He was born on Falster Island, Denmark. His name in Denmark was Jorgen Rasmussen. He arrived in the US in late 1882 or early 1883 as far as I can figure. He lived in Fillmore County, Minn. Fountain, MN to be a little more precise. He was born May 24, 1819 and was married to Ane Kirstine Christjansdatter on March 22, 1872. They had one child, Kirstine Jorgensen. Any help with this would be wonderful. Thanks Sandy Harp BLHSLJ@aol.com
Hi,.... I have a Sarah Jane JOHNSON-KING b. 1825 in Alabama with her mother, next door, Winifred JOHNSON age 62 on the Madison Co., AL 1870 Census. I believe that Winifred's maiden name may have been HILL. Does any of this ring a bell..with anyone else? Kathy in Humboldt God Bless
James JOHNSON is listed on the first Pendleton Co, KY tax list in 1799 owning 115 acres on S. Licking. In 1808 his wife, Elizabeth JOHNSON 38-48 yrs old, is executor of his estate. They were both probably born in VA. In Pendleton Co KY, they were closely associated with Nelson JOHNSON 1770-185? who was probably James' brother. In the mid-1830's Nelson JOHNSON moved to Lewis Co, MO purchasing BLM land. The family name was variously listed in records as JOHNSON, JOHNSTON & JOHNSTONE. James and Elizabeth JOHNSON were my gr4 grandparents. Known children of James & Elizabeth JOHNSON: Elizabeth JOHNSON, Jr. m. John W. COLLINS 1817 Pendleton Co, KY, having at least one child, Ogilvie N. COLLINS 1830-1913. I would be delighted to exchange with anyone who has any of these persons in their list. Thanks so much. Crystal
Please reply to Sally at cscox@gci.net >> Is anyone else on the list researching this couple? Thomas Phillips (James, Michael, James, Michael) was born 1762 in Coventry, Kent County, Rhode Island, and died 01 January 1833 in Sterling, Windham County, Connecticut. He married in 1788 in Coventry, Kent County, Rhode Island, Catherine Johnson, born 1771, daughter of Ebenezer Johnson and Elizabeth Tingley. She died 06 October 1824 in Jewett City, Connecticut. Thomas Phillips was the son of James and ?? of Coventry, RI. His father, James Phillips, was a son of Michael & Freelove (Wilkinson) Phillips who moved from Smithfield. RI to Pomfret, CT., where they are buried. I have some very strong clues that my ggg-grandfather, Thomas Phillips (who is listed as Thomas Phillips, Jr. in his marriage record to Susannah Olin on 21 September 1825 in Lisbon, CT.), born about 1806/7, was a son of Thomas & Catherine (Johnson) Phillips. Some time after the 1800 census, Thomas & Catherine moved from West Greenwich, RI to Preston, CT, where they appear in the 1810 and 1820 census listings. In the 1820 census, Thomas Phillips, Senior, lived in the household next to Squire Olin (father of Susanna Olin). In addition, Catherine Phillip's death notice appeared in the Norwich Courier in October 1824. Two published genealogies contain information about two children of Thomas and Catherine Phillips: Patience Phillips, born 1792, is discussed in the Thayer-Burton Ancestry (she married Caleb Thayer and settled in Sterling, CT.) William Phillips, born 1797, married Asenath Brewster in Lisbon, CT. and is discussed in The Brewster Genealogy by Emma C. Brewster Jones. I'm very interested in locating any other genealogies that may have information about this family. I have found scattered information on the earlier generations of the Michael & Barbara Phillips family (from whom Thomas Phillips descends), but very little about the later generations, particularly the large group that migrated over to Connecticut. It appears that Thomas Phillip, (senior) died intestate, so I don't expect I will find positive proof of my ggg-grandfather's relationship to him, but perhaps other accounts or records exist. Any ideas? Sally Cox in Anchorage, Alaska cscox@gci.net
Lizzie Johnson Stewart was born July 10, 1882 in Calumet, Michigan to Ephraim Kylmälä Johnson (Finnish) and Maria (Mary) Ericka Helisten. Maria died in 1898 and Lizzie and siblings were raised by her father and step mother Katie Kurtti Keskitalo Johnson. Lizzie died May, 1909 of TB. Her obit states Mrs. Stewart "returned from Montana points about one year ago in ill health." (possibly Butte, Montana as she had relatives living in the area.) Seeking information about her husband's first name and possible children. The Stewart name was spelled Stuvard on her death record. Thanks, Linda

I just received a copy of the marriage bond of Samuel B. Johnson and Elizabeth Shepherd. The marriage date was December 19, 1831, Fluvanna County, VA. John Shepherd gave his consent for Elizabeth to be married and the consent was witnessed by James T. Shepherd. Samuel Johnson and Walker Timberlake made bond for the marriage. I would appreciate any information on this couple. Thanks, Donna Price
