    3. My blank wall(s) are John Johnson, Revolutionary War Veteran who supposedly died October 24, 1816 in West Fairlie, Vermont and his wife Jean/Jane Johnston Johnson who supposedly died April 3, 1837 in West Fairlie, Vermont. They were married May 15, 1777 in Pelham, Massachusetts. Known children were Thomas (died Sep 3, 1860 in Vermont); Benjamin K.(died November 12, 1860 in Vermont); Patience (died March 1, 1784 in Mass.); and James (died Nov 14, 1828 in Vermont) John was at Bunker Hill and served in several other companies. I have a copy of the Pension Papers filed by sons Thomas and Benjamin on behalf of their mother. I have been unable to find copy of either death record, dates of death are from Pension papers. I would love to know their dates and places of birth and their parents names if anyone has this information. Thanks. Brenda

    1. [JOHNSON] Johnson Trail
    2. Nancy Ratay
    3. I'm still following leads so I'd classify this as a trail, not yet a wall. My Johnsons migrated and changed names several times as follows: Hiram JOHNSON (b. abt 1822) in Ohio, probably Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana county. ....married Anna Marie FINK (b. abt 1827) in 1849 in Canfield, Ohio, ..........her father Daniel FINK, Jr./mother Mary Susannah KENTNEY both of PA ....moved to Coldwater (Branch Co.), MI between 1852 and 1857. ....Children: .........1.Emma A. (b. 1850) Ohio who married a DAVEY and died in CA. .........2.Mary (b. 1852) Ohio .........3.Carra (b. 1853) NY? from one census .........4.George Herbert (b. 1857) Coldwater, MI, died 1922 LaPorte, IN .............married Anna Julia FREESE(b.1870 IL/d.1922 IN) 17 April 1889 in Arlington Heights (Cook Co.) IL .............went by JOHNSTON .............Children: ..................1. Marie Martha (b. 1889) married Earl DOMINY ..................2. Florence Emma (b. 1891) married Frank WEIDNER ..................3. Clarence Hiram (b. 1892?) ..................4. Arthur Paul (b. 1895) married Lydia WERREMEYER(my grandparents) ..................5. Hiram George (b. 1897) died 1899 ..................6. Virginia Anna (b. 1900) married Elmer YOUNG My grandparents went by JOHNSTONE and lived in LaPorte, IN after they married after meeting in WWI. I have not been able to backtrack from Hiram other than a letter that Emma DAVEY sent to Marie DOMINY that indicated that the family came to Ohio to the Connecticut Western Reserve after having served in the Revolutionary War. An excerpt of the letter follows: Your great grandmother's name was Perry, Catherine Perry, but your great grandfather's name I am a little mixed up on for one was Henry and the other Daniel. Both were family names and both had two sons by that name. I forgot to tell you that your great grandmother Fink's given name was Susan. Your Johnson ancestors came from England and were given much land on the Western Reserve in Ohio. They owned land in the east, out where cannot remember, but were well thought of and when coming from England were given twice as much land as the minister because they were blacksmiths and were considered more necessary in the country. If I remember the land was cow pasture. This grandmother Johnson (my grandmother) had fifteen children but land on the Western Reserve was not very valuable then. I have a friend in Cleveland who still owns some of the land. Her grandmother came all the way from Connecticut on horseback, the saddle now in the museum in Cleveland. How I loved to listen to the stories of the settling of the new country. Think I have somewhere carefully put away a picture of the Johnson coat of arms with their history. If I find it will send it to you but did not suppose anyone would ever care for it. The Johnson family lot in Woodland Cemetery is in Section 40. Any help is appreciated! 3. Does anyone know a Vernon JOHNSON that lived in Oklahoma? He's my husband's mothers cousin. We called the latest number we had for him, but it wouldn't work. I am wondering if he is still alive. He would be around 90 now. I know some family were in McLoud Oklahoma and that area. We think..... Vernon was the son of Garfield JOHNSON who was a brother to the Liberty JOHNSON we are looking for, we think.... Garfield and LIberty JOHNSON are relatives of some kind is all we know. 2. Roberta Sharp
    3. Although not much has changed since my last post, this information might benefit new subscribers: The Todd County KY Deed Book S. (p. 28) lists heirs of John JOHNSON: his widow, Elizabeth, of Todd County; John W. JOHNSON, William B. JOHNSON, John P. and Sarah Johnson GUTHRIE, William and Margaret Johnson WITTY, and Daniel REEDER [who was granted power of Attorney], all of Adams County, Illinois. Daniel REEDER's wife, Frances S. JOHNSON, was not mentioned but had recently given birth to her tenth child at the time of this hearing (September 1848). I believe that she was unable to attend and therefore her husband Daniel REEDER was given power of attorney. I am interested in learning Elizabeth's maiden name and where John and Elizabeth's parents were born. Some census records indicate both were born in South Carolina, but the 1880 census Frances Johnson REEDER gave her father's birthplace as Ireland. Roberta rsharp@csupomona.edu

    1. [JOHNSON] Mattie B. Johnson, b. 12/15/1853, IN, d. 6/24/1930 ?
    2. I don't really have a brick wall just a broken link in a long chain. My family history was done some time ago by a distant cousin, now deceased. I have the results of his work but am unable to prove a link. The link between my great grandmother, Mattie B. Johnson and her parents cannot be proven. I have the ancestors of Jesse B. Johnson (my great great grand father) and am certain that it is correct. The line is as follows: 1. Jesse B. Johnson, b. 1/6/1806, d. 9/12/1881, m. Mary Ann Pounds, b. 9/8/1816 in Chatham, NC d. 4/16/1881 in IN. (Monrovia, Morgan Co.) 2. Mattie (Martha) B. Johnson, b. 12/15/1853, IN, d. 6/24/1930 (?) m. John Robert Fletcher I have tried to find a death certificate of hers, should be easy right, no. Not in Illinois, where she lived nor Indiana or Michigan where her two daughters lived. None of her living relatives know where she died. If any one has any information on Jesse B. and Mary Ann and their family I would appreciate a little help. John Perkins Central Coast of California

    1. [JOHNSON] William and Benjamin Johnson from Fluvanna Co, VA
    2. L. Hurston Anderson
    3. Actually, that is a provocative title for several of us because there seem to be several of each name in the area at the same time. In particular, I am trying to better understand the relatives of the following William Johnson (b 3-16-1804 in VA - d 10-31-1888 in Williamson Co, TX) + ? Children: 1)Isabella K. Johnson (abt 1820 - abt 1856 in Fluvanna Co, VA) + James Kelly Ryals (abt 1813 - abt 1853 in Fluvanna Co, VA) (at least 5 children fairly young at parents death) 2)Minerva Johnson (abt 1822 - aft 1860 + Joseph Pace (abt 1795 - ?) (at least 2 children) 3)Stephen P. Johnson (aft 1823 - bef 1860) + Isabella A. ? (at least 1 child- Mary E. Johnson) 4)Benjamin E. Johnson ( b. 4-21-1827 in Fluvanna Co, VA (probably) - d. 10-22-1904 in Williamson Co, TX) + Elizabeth Matilda Frances Smith (b. 6-12-1834 in Louisa Co, VA - d. 1-12-1916 in Williamson Co, TX) (Children Sarah Catherine Johnson Anderson, Matilda Ann Johnson Sparks, Barbara V. Johnson Windsor, William Johnson (died infancy), Harriet Cora Johnson (died infancy), Mary Elizabeth Johnson (died infancy), Ida Eunice Johnson Gray, Ben Ella Johnson (died infancy)) 5) Columbus W. Johnson (abt 1828 - 10-28-1870 in Fluvanna Co, VA) +Wilamina Black (8-1833 - ?) (at least one boy child) 6)Mary E. Johnson (abt 1834 - bef 10-24-1860) +Tillman Overstreet (other sources say Matthew Overstreet, same?) (? - bef 8-1854) 7)Sally C. Johnson (abt 1834 - bef 10-24-1860) + John M. Smith (brother of E. M. F. Smith married to Benjamin Johnson above) ( abt 1830 - ?) 8)William Frederic Johnson (abt 1838 - ?) 9)Octavius S. Johnson (abt 1840 - ?) There seems to be no information on the mother of the above 9 children. By the 1850 Census (4) Benjamin E. Johnson at age 23 is shown living with his future in-laws, William Smith- blacksmith and wife Barbara with 19 year old son John, 15 year old daughter Elizabeth (future wife), 13 year old son Willaim, and 6 year old son Joseph. In 1850 (1) Isabella is married and living with husband James K. Ryals (Carpenter) in residence #25. Next door is a William Johnson aged 60 with wife Nancy aged 54. This William is too young to be the father of the William who is father to the above family and too old to be father of younger children (or at least his wife Nancy would be). I have no idea how this William and Nancy are related, but they are certainly close because (7) Sally, (8) William Frederic, and (9) Octavius are living with them in residence #26. In residence #27 is (3) Stephen P. Johnson with his wife and child. In 1850 (2) Minerva is married and living with husband Joseph Pace (much older than she) not far from William Smiths (and (4) Benjamin). (5) Columbus is not yet married to Wilhamina Black nor living there, to be counted anyway. (6) Mary E. is also not listed, apparently. It would appear that father William left for some reason and left younger three children with the other William and Nancy in residence #26. He does eventually end up (and die) in Williamson Co, Tx, but only his son (4) Benjamin seems to have moved there, also. It would be great to make contact with these other distant family relations who apparently stayed (at least for the time) in Fluvanna Co, VA. There are others looking into similar Christian names for Johnsons at the same time who are possibly related, but there is no know connection (at least by me). Have a great day, Hurston Anderson (gggrandson of (4) Benjamin E. Johnson and E. M. F. Smith Johnson) ----- Original Message ----- From: <JOHNSON-D-request@rootsweb.com> To: <JOHNSON-D@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, June 05, 2000 9:03 AM Subject: JOHNSON-D Digest V00 #178

They had 9 children: Charles M., Mary Isabel, Joseph E., Granville Manard, James Harvey, Orpha Estella, Emma, William, and Ida. Jesse is my husband's g-g-grandfather and was a farmer and a shoemaker. Who were Jesse's parents and siblings? We'd love to start removing the bricks from that wall. Thank you! Linda Allen
