XENIA DAILY GAZETTE MONDAY EVENING FEBRUARY 11, 1884 MARY JOHNSON A good woman has passed away. No more will her friends see her gentle face or hear her loving words. Mrs. Mary JOHNSON, wife of County Commissioner Alfred JOHNSON of Jamestown, died at her residence 1/2 mile East of Jamestown on Wednesday the 6th inst.., after an illness of two weeks. She was before marriage Mary MCLAIR, and was a sister of Wm. MCLAIR, of near the same place, and Philip MCLAIR of Washington C.H. Besides these, she leaves 2 brothers and a sister who reside in Indiana. Of her own family she leaves her bereaved husband, and her son, Charles, a young man. She was a devoted member of the Friends Church, and a most exemplary woman in every respect, and one whose memory will be be revered in the hearts of a large circle of relatives and friends while memory lasts. The funeral took place on Friday from the residence, the services being conducted by Rev. NEWHOUSE, of the Christian Church. The very large attendance at the funeral indicated the high esteem in which the deceased was held by all the neighbors. Debbie ( I have no connection with the family) I found this obit and thought it might be of interest to someone on the list. ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Just want to share this with the list. Arthur Johnson was a member of the militia force of Virginia which took part in the Battle of Point Pleasant in Lord Dinsmore's War on the Kanawa River in 1774 under General Andrew Lewis. He also served at least one year in the American Revolution and may have been a member of Captain Cresaps Co that marched from Frederick, Maryland to Boston. He was also in the battle of Bunker hill and family history says he took his own brother's gun from him. Brother was John. Arthur died in Edgar Co Illinois in 1823. From a ledger in the grocery store of John Strange Johnson, his grandson, son of Issac Johnson, written in his hand was this information "Grandfather Arthur Johnson had a brother named Andrew" The Records of this family of Arthur and Elizabeth Harrison Johnson were numbered: Samuel William Reuben David Margaret Benjamin Mary Aaron Issac I am a descendent of Benjamin and have more information on most of the children. My obsession is finding out where Arthur Johnson and wife Elizabeth Harrison were born. Arthur's father arrived in Augusta Co VA in 1748/9 but Arthur was b in 1747. I hope this helps someone Reba Johnson Gale

Listers, My gr gr grandfather was Charles Johnson who died at Andersonville prison during the civil war. He had two children, Keziah E. who was my gr grandmother and she had a brother Eugene who was born in 1854. They lived in Tioga Co, Pa. and a relative went back to PA from Washington state about 1910 and mentions in a letter that he visited "Uncle" Gene wha by then was white haired. Hello~! Johnson's are pretty busy today...may as well get mine out here also.~! My GGGrandmother was born in Indiana abt. 1840. She married 1st, James JOHNSON, second, Scott S. ETHINGTON. According to Scotts Pension Papers James JOHNSON divorced Elizabeth Jane CARTER in 1865 in Iroquois County, Illinois. Now, my problem is that Scott and Elizabeth "Lizzie" first child is my GGrandmother, Olive Susan and she was born in Illinois 23-Sep-1863. Scott's Parents and Cousins, the SHERRILLs were living in Iroquios Co., Ill. and I'm not sure if that is why divorce took place there or if Lizzie and James JOHNSON are actually the parents of Olive Susan and Scott ETHINGTON adopted her. Olive "Ollie" Susan was married and died and her Headstone reads Olive S. ETHINGTON-MALLORY. Still the question remains. Anyone hear this story from the other side (johnson?) before? Thank you, Marie Lewis-Cook Researching JOHNSON, CARTER, ETHINGTON, MALLORY, RAY and KEFAUVER Fathers side: LILES, RIDDLE, GOODALE, WATSON, STEPHENSON, and CAYTON
