A GREAT idea from Ancestry. This works great and is fast and easy. Sure does make reading forwarded messages easier and takes less room. Ivan Ancestry Daily News, Weekly Digest Version http://www.ancestry.com/DailyNews Brought to you by the publishers of "The Source" and "Ancestry" Magazine http://www.ancestry.com For the week ending 24 June 2000 "QUICK E-MAIL CLEANUP To clean up all of those >>>s that show up when a message has been forwarded several times, what I normally do is copy the message, including all the greater than symbols (>>>), and paste it into my word processor. Then I go into the Find/Replace function (found in the "Edit" menu). I tell it to find > and replace it with NOTHING (not the word, just leave the "Replace With" field blank). Then tell it to go to work. After that, I manually reformat the document the way I like it, copy the whole thing, paste it into an e-mail, and send the critter. I like to use programs with which I am familiar, so it becomes almost automatic for me. L8r, Sarge aka Gus"

I am trying to contact a Jennifer who submitted a query 14 Mar 99 on this list asking about Corporal Benjamin Johnson who served in the 3rd South Carolina Infantry Regiment during the Revolution. I am now almost certain this Benjamin is my ancestor, but Jennnifer's E-mail address of Terry1729@aol.com is no longer valid. I don't even know her last name. Does anyone know how I may reach her to ask why she inquired about Benjamin? Perplexed and stalled. Bruce Nichols Mapmaker3@aol.com.

The Bryan County Court house in Oklahoma has been given over 8000 original marriage licenses to the Bryan County Heritage, Research Library in Calera, Oklahoma. If you are a descendant or family member of one of the individuals listed on the marriage licenses below, please send a stamped self addressed envelope to the Bryan County Heritage Association, Inc., P. O. Box 153, Calera, Oklahoma 74730, along with your request. You will then be notified as to how to obtain the Original License. The licenses are from 1902 to 1932. Please do not write and request all of any particular name, you will not be able to obtain them in that manner. Please be sure to request a specific name beginning with the grooms name. They are filed by the grooms name at this time. Please remember one thing, many of the individuals lived in Texas. Some were from other states as well. There was no waiting period to be married in Oklahoma. A copy of this license will be kept in the library. The Court house will have the original ledgers and microfilm copies of the ledgers. The Library has the microfilm copies of the ledgers also. On some of these that may be listed twice. Sometimes, they made an application, then returned the license to the court house, unused or canceled, perhaps they married on another day. Alley, John Wesley m. Johnson, Lucille 9 Dec 1930 Barnes, W. K. m. Johnson, Louise 6 Aug 1932 Atchison, T. E. m. Johnston, Margaret 23 May 1925

I was wondering if anyone had information for Nathan Johnson ? Nathan Johnson served as a policeman from Oct. 6, 1871 to Nov. 1, 1872 in Limestone County, Texas. (Taken from Handbook of Texas on line) http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/ After the Civil War the majority of whites in Limestone County strongly opposed congressional Reconstruction. Many race-related murders took place in the county during the 1870s. In 1871 a man reportedly made public denouncements of the State Police and the local Republican officials. When officers attempted to arrest him, a riot broke out between the mob protecting him and the police. This incident and others were tentatively resolved, but bad feeling remained. The situation became so strained that the governor declared the county under martial law. Though the election went on as scheduled in the county, the state board rejected the returns because of reported violence. In spite of these incidents, however, the Republican party had gained a small foothold. Ralph Long, a twentyfiveyear-old black man from Tennessee, became the boss of that party in Limestone County.
