    3. Looking for family of my grandfather's 2 brothers who came to US from Sweden. My grandfather was Erik August Johannesson (Johnson) born 1962 in Varmalnd, Sweden. He settled in Osage, KS. One of his brothers Carl born 1866 in Varmland came to US 1886 headed for Ridgway, PA and other brother Olof Fredrik left Sweden Oct. 1887 so may have been 1888 before he got here as I found both dates, he was headed for Worthington, MN. Olof (30) brought his wife Charlotte(26) and son Carl(2). With the 1890 census not being available it has been hard to try and locate them. Any ideas or info greatly appreciated, Thank you for any help. Jean in Wisconsin

    2. I am interested in corresponding with any Johnson or Johnston who were originally from the Berks and Lancaster county, PA area before 1860. I am interested in any Johnson or Johnston family who have a form of muscular dystrophy running through their line. This type is handed down from parent to child. It usually manifests itself when a person is in the late 30's and by the late 50's the person passes away. 2. Karen, I am almost 100% positive that you are talking about my GGGGGrandparents and their family. Richard and Kizziah Johnson's son John N. is my GGGGrandfather. I am at work so I don't have my family info with me. How are you related to this bunch of Johnsons? I don't have any info beyond what you posted. I have been unable to find them in any census report prior to the 1850. I do have birth and death dates for many of the children listed. I will have to pull out my stuff tonight and get it together to post it or e-mail it to you. E-mail me off list if you would like. Kim

    3. Angila; I think that the given names match my lines in Monongalia Co VA/WV. The surnames, JOHNSON and MAYFIELD were from the Rock Forge/Dellslow area just outside Morgantown. My line JOHNSON came from PA (Mt Morris, Greene Co PA ?? ca 1826. ie Elisha and Elizabeth KENNEDY Johnson. ch; name William S. b 1822 PA, John T b 1825 PA , Joseph T. bn ca 1827 VA/WV, Charles J. bn <1830, Delilah>1830, James S. >1840, Elizabeth 1830. There are MAYFIELD's and JOHNSON from these lines located in those locations. William and John T., left for KY (Greenup/Boyd ) Co in 1847 others remained in Morgantown area. I have exact dates somewhere. The two older brothers were probably in the confederacy and the younger brothers in the Union armies. 2. CJ and MA Garrett
    3. Jeremiah F. Johnson was born 20 Mar 1820 in Tennessee, and died 3 Jan 1899 in Groveton, Texas. He married Harriet Newnam (Nenum, Nunum) 21 Apr 1844 in Perry Co, Alabama. She was born 3 Jun 1823 in Georgia and died 18 August 1909 in Mankin, Henderson Co, Texas. Jeremiah (aka Jerry) and Harriet were the parents of two children: 1) John Newnam Johnson, b. June 1845 St Clair, AL, d 15 May 1923, Tecula, Texas. 2) Abagail Johnson, b. June 1847, mar John W. Mooney, d. 1916, Mankin, Henderson Co, TX. Another child William J. Johnson, b abt 1841 is listed on the 1850 Cherokee Co, AL census with Jeremiah's family, possibly a son born to a wife who died before his marriage to Harriet, who claimed in later years to be the mother of only two, a son and a daughter. Jeremiah was a Baptist preacher who was involved somehow in the organizing of the Southern Baptist Convention. His ministry was spread across at least three statesn - Alabama, Mississippi, and Texas. Jeremiah's son John's first wife was Elizabeth Churchill Crutcher, b 6 May 1848 in Culpeper, VA, daughter of Coleman Crutcher and Penelope Allen. John and "Betsy" married 28 May 1865 at the close of the Civil War in Culpeper, VA, where John had fought with Hood's Texas Brigade. John and Betsy had six children: 1) William Coleman Johnson, b abt 1866 VA 2) Penelope Harriet Johnson, b abt 1867 VA, mar M. J. Barron 3) John Newnam Johnson, Jr., b 1873 VA, mar Emma M. Stanaland, d. 1942 4) Mildred Virginia Johnson, b abt 1875 VA, mar Bill Smith 5) Joseph Sidney Johnson, b abt 1877 VA, 6) Charles Thomas Johnson, b 30 Dec 1879, Fauquier Co, VA, mar Florence Rebecca Wilkins, d. 17 Sept 1942, Palestine, Texas. John's wife Betsy died 17 June 1880 in Culpeper, Fauquier Co, VA and is buried in the Mt. Holly Cemetery, Remington, Fauquier, VA. In less than a year after Betsy's death, John married Annie L--, b 1857, d 1908. With her he had five children: 7) Bessie Lee Johnson, b 1882, mar. Peter Stephen Mannix 8) Lula Y. Johnson, b 1884, mar J. E. Morrow 9) Laura Abagail, b 1889, mar -- Bridges 10) Annie Carrie, b 1892, 11) Jesse E., b 1896 After 2nd wife Annie's death in 1908, John married Martha ---, b abt 1862, Jasper Co, MS. Although John worked as a farmer, a teacher, and a postmaster, in later years, he was granted a soldier's pension in Texas due to indigent circumstances. It is through John's son Charles Thomas Johnson that I descend. His son Joseph Silas Johnson, b 7 August 1908, Crockett, TX, was my father. Everything I know about his Johnson ancestors has been enumerated here. So, please, if you recognize ANY of these names, please contact me.
