    3. Hi, Sheri and List, I am a descendant of two lines of descent from John and Lucretia (Massie) Johnson, of Virginia, and I have researched their descendents. I got sidetracked several years ago because I started on other lines of my ancestry, so I haven't gone as in-depth as I would like with the Johnson lines, but I have come across information about the Anderson J. Johnson you mention in your posting. He is the grandson of my ancestor Strangeman Johnson, who is, in turn, the grandson of Strangeman Hutchins. Quite a bit of research has been done on the ancestry and descendants of Strangeman Hutchins. It has been compiled beautifully in a three volume set by Rita Hineman Townsend entitled _Hutchins-Hutchens : Descendants of Strangeman Hutchins, Born 1707, of the James River in Virginia and Surry (Yadkin) County, North Carolina_. This set is available from her at the address of 1606 N. 3rd St, Garden City, KS 67846. Additionally, I have information on this Anderson Johnson's JOHNSON ancestry, although it is not in published form. If you are interested in this ancestry, I may be able to help you with some specifics. 2. LINDA EDMONDSON
    3. found this in Somebody's Links newsletter. Anyone know Calvin JOHNSON who would have witnessed a marriage in Kentucky in December 1904?? o I have a very large, full color, marriage certificate in very good shape that I found in an antique store in Toledo, Oregon several years ago. The store owner had the document in her back room. Her interest was in the frame that it was in but she said she could not bring herself to throw away the certificate. I purchased it for $10 with the hope of being able to find a person with family ties who would want it. The certificate is for the marriage of L. L. CAMPBELL of Webbville, Kentucky, and Dora WILSON of (what appears to be) Jattie, Kentucky. The marriage took place at Jattie on 22 December 1904. Witnesses were Fred STEWART, Frank THOMPSON, and Calvin JOHNSON. I have not been able to find any Jattie, Kentucky or any reference to it. I did find Webbville in Lawrence, County. I would provide this certificate for my initial $10 plus postage to the first person able to show links to this family. Cliff D. 2. Does anyone know why these Johnson are living with Margaret Ashby on the 1850 Pike Co., IN Census? 1850 Pike Co. IN Census: Margaret Ashby age 49 Samuel Ashby age 28 Mary Ashby age 24 William Johnson age 4 Ephraim Johnson age 3 Benjamin Johnson age 1 I have found the following which I think is this Margaret Ashby. Margaret Johnson m: 2/15/1822 to William Ashby (William d: abt. Jan. 1849 Pike Co., Indiana) I think, but not proven, that the following Frank is Benjamin Franklin Johnson b: May 27, 1849 in IN. 1870 Patoka Twp. Pike Co., IN 201 Johnson, Frank 21 m farmer 1600 100 IN Mary 18 IN (Benjamin Franklin Johnson m: Mary Jane Wagner) Benjamin 2 IN (Benjamin F. and Mary Jane's first child was Benjamin Elias b: 1/10/1869) I think that the following Samuel and Mary Johnson are the Samuel and Mary Ashby listed with Margaret Ashby on the 1850 Census and the Surname is listed as Ashby instead of Johnson and maybe a relative of Margaret Johnson Ashby. 1870 Logan Twp. Pike Co., IN Line 124: Samuel Johnson 51 Blacksmith - 175 IN Mary 46 K.H. IN Grubb, Daniel 5 IN On some Bible Records I have are Samuel H. Johnson b: Oct. 26, 1821, Mary Johnson b: July 21, 1825 and a William W. Johnson b: Jan. 26, 1846 Benjamin Franklin Johnson b: May 27, 1849 also a Daniel W. Grubb b: Oct. 3, 1866. The 4 Johnson's ages are the same as on the 1850 Census Records and the Grubb is right age on the 1870 census. I would appreciate hearing from anyone that has any information on any of these names. Thank you very much. Remona Modesto, CA Johnson, Wagner, Abram, Ashby, Grubb, Burch .

Surnames came late to Scandinavia. I wouldn't be surprised that your Frederick Johnson was son of John Goranson the son of Goran (insert the given name of Goran's father)-son etc. (The opera diva Birgit Nilsson b.1918 in local records is Birgit Nilsdaughter ie daughter of Nils (Svensson), her father's given name. Some Swedes when coming to America took the name of their place of origin--which is perhaps where Wikland comes from?) Within the last decade, Denmark has been pushing people to change their last names to something more distinctive because there were so few last names with the Danish spelling of Johnson (Jansen?) near the top of the list.
