    1. [JOHNSON] Aquilla Johnston/Elizabeth Winn or Fortson?
    2. Kenn Roberts
    3. Checking ancestry.com this AM found Aquilla Johnston married to Elizabeth Winn with children Aquilla Jr., Priscilla and John Johnson. Also found Aquilla Johnston married to Elizabeth Fortson with the same children named as their offspring!!!! Could these two women be one and the same?? This would clear up a big road block for me. Help appreciated. Aquilla Sr. had a "t" in his last name, don't know why.

    3. It is impossible to separate my family history from religious institutions and I'm finding more family information in religious history than in prestatehood era Missouri history. It's been a while since I've posted an inquiry. My gggp Noble Johnson and his brother Davis Johnson represented the Little Vine Baptist Church from Madison County Missouri at the St. Francois Baptist Association annual meetings from its founding in 1850 through at least 1863. The printed history of the Bethel Baptist Church at Jackson mentions that William and Daniel (likely a mistranscription of David or Davis) Johnson represented the Turkey/Turtle/Dry Creek Church at the first Bethal Association meeting in 1816. Further that history says David and wife (Margaret), along with Davis and wife (Betsy Cato) and William and wife (Jane McGehee) joined at intervals in 1812 or 1814. I know Davis and William were married in Christian County KY in about 1808. I have seen microfilm of the original marriage documents and while the Christian County printed marriage book says David, I am sure it was Davis with a tall script s. What church did the family belong to in Christian County KY? Is there a set of church minutes available for study for more details? Since they joined Bethel by letter, they came from some prior church membership, not in Missouri since Bethel at Jackson was the first Baptist Church in Missouri. Where did they live before they moved to Kentucky? Davis said he was born in SC in the 1850 census, Noble said NC in 1850, SC in 1860. Gerald J.

    3. Sent To the Johnson List on: A long time ago. :) Yes I wrote this. Waiting for the next elusive Johnson apple to appear on list that I could snatch and tape to my half filled tree. I was musing over a group I was reading today, seemingly dedicated to disproving each other's elaborate postings of Johnson history. At first I was excited that I might have found one post that matched my DAR line, but then as I read on, there were five other's posts who were battling to hack apart every line, because of three conjectures of the original Arthur had made due to unavailable documentation. After reading the entire forum, I came to the conclusion everyone had canceled out each other's data. Therefore I did not bother to bookmark the site. Personally I think after years of research, one can become hardened to the plight of the new person and forget what it was like to even get up the nerve to input to this massive audience. People join lists ..sometimes because all they have is a common name. I started with a trunk of pictures, a few letters and a Bible with few names with birth dates. Only one of those names had a location scribed behind it. And of course none of those were Johnson names. I read every mail list I am subscribed to, I seldom write to the list, but if I see a family name or a person that needs help, I post to them privately and sometimes simply to give support. There is nothing more embarrassing than to be used as a target under the guise of teaching the whole, or simply because one's ego has grown to match the size of their database. Religious is wonderful.. and I subscribe to a Faith, but The list is for Genealogy.. /E *Hugs the group and the lady who takes time to do this. Louise 'Johnson' Kohl The world would be so much better, If all our records were kept in one place, If each Surname was in a single database If all of our histories were easy to trace If the government had taken better care, If now, all of the censuses were still there. If a signature labeled every photo's face. If old paper copies would never fade If initials had never been all the rage, If every available record was offered free. If mom and dad had offered a key. If women had been considered as a 'we' Internet Genealogy would be rid of me! Louise Kohl http://home.inreach.com/guppi

I didn't know this argument was going on, BUT in my search for my ancestors, I hope to get all the way back to ADAM and EVE, OOPS guess that is not allowed so I for one am taking a stand for freedom of speech and my chosen religion. I cannot not be a part of something that restricts that . But I do ask you do you want to find apes for ancestors or Humans. The choice is yours. 3. Thank you for your nice emails. Firstly Rosamila, your apology email came after I sent mine to the list ( I have emailed you off list alos) Secondly, the abusive emails I have received are not appreciated, everyone makes errors, myself included. I had however received nearly 50 emails complaining about the religious topic. It was necessary to stop the thread. I will not spend my time on people who send these sort of " hate mail" emails. I will unsubscribe you and ban you from using the list again. I am entitled to specify how this list is run and as it is a genealogy list that is what it will be. Running the list is time consuming but has until the last month been enjoyable. People who do not like this or feel they are unable to accept the apology for my email and Rosamila's are able to unsubscribe from the list. to unsubscribe mail format members should send their email to Johnson-l-request@rootsweb.com and digest should address theirs to Johnson-d-request@rootsweb.com with nothing in the subject line and only the word unsubscribe in the body of the message. Please do not email me to unsubscribe you manually as I will not be doing any maintenance on the list until after Christmas I sincerely hope that the remainder of the list members will continue with their Johnson Genealogy. regards Linda LIstowner Sign up for a free service with Paypal to make all your internet payments and receive a $5-00 bonus for sign up. https://secure.paypal.com/refer/pal=boglelodge%40yahoo.com

    3. it is pretty sad when a person errors [and in such a horrible manner, too!] that the card-carrying ACLU types have to do everything but file a lawsuit to remove errant religious emails---what next, ban requests on Civil War materials because of their potential to influence others to secede from the Union or go on wild killing sprees--please, I must be one of the few here who is not an ACLU "liberator" , or sitting in a nursing home bitching at the staff while I look up the people I hope to see when that unmentionable deity calls me---I read about removing religious speech and replacing it w/ saga genesis [oh that word slipped, genesis], everywhere--but the ACLU-types are right--I would much rather have seen somone slip up and send their plans, via email, to sell the Communist Chinese missile technology, or better yet, ideas on how to burn every church in the land! 3. It dawned on me that perhaps I ought to post what I have on Vice President Richard Mentor Johnson's family...at least some collatoral lines, in case anyone has them! Johnson And related surnames: SPENCE, PAYNE, WARD, WILLIAMS, LEWIS, OFFUTT, FLOURNEY Robert Johnson son of William Johnson and Elizabeth Cave: born July 17, 1745, Orange County, VA buried in the Great Crossing Cemetary, in Scott County, KY married Jemima Suggett, (whose parents were James Suggestt and Jemima Spence), in 1770 and they had: Betsy who married John Payne James who married Nancy Payne William who married Betsy Payne Salley who married William Ward Richard Mentor (this is the line I am seeking) Benjamin who married Matilda Williams Robert John T. who married Sophie E. 3. This is all my fault. Please let it go...I got 21 thank you's for my mistake, and 1 complaint that was withdrawn in the same breath. I don't think any ONE held it against me that I made a mistake. A new family connection on an entirely different line was made because of it... and many people showed their kindness which to me is a rare blessing. Let's get back to genealogy! I mean to accuse none...I believe none accuse me- Christen According to the listowner's position, I will list my Johnson Query again: Looking for the family of Vice President Johnson...one of his cousins, Elizabeth Johnson (as rumour goes...) married Moses Sweeney of Virginia in the 1770's. There they lived on the Slate River, and ran the Sweeney Mill. They removed early (late 1780's) to Liberty, KY - raised about 12 kids - My website has an awful lot on this line...in From Liberty to Bardstown. Lizzy has been a brick wall of mine since I began genealogy over 10 years ago. These are I believe some of the original Baptist's in the area...there are stories of them being drown for relegious indignation, in the river in VA. My BEST to all of you. You are an amazing group of people. 3. Listers, I received this email amongst others following the religious emails. My answer to the senders of the vaious emails is : NO it is not, but I actually took a few days off, and to be honest I am getting a little fed up with the behaviour of people on the list. I do this list to help people and support rootsweb and I spend more time intervening in squabbles . If it continues I will have no alternative but to make it a closed the list with a the messages being monitored before the go out. Please refrain from religious discussions on the list, there are other lists for this. This List is for genealogy and in particular Johnson related items. 3. There should not have to be an appology for a mistake such as this, nor is it really off topic, for all that we search for is someone's son or daughter. What better day to be reminded of how thankful we should be for our children, and what a beautiful way for the man to show his love for his son. 3. WHO WILL TAKE THE SON? A wealthy man and his son loved to collect rare works of art. They had everything in their collection, from Picaso to Raphael. They would often sit together and admire the great works of art. When the Vietnam conflict broke out, the son went to war. He was very courageous and died in battle while rescuing another soldier. The father was notified and grieved deeply for his only son. About a month later, just before Christmas, there was a knock at the door. A young man stood at the door with a large package in his hands. He said, "Sir, you don't know me, but I am the soldier for whom your son gave his life. He saved many lives that day, and he was carrying me to safety when a bullet struck him in the heart and he died instantly. He often talked about you, and your love for art." The young man held out his package. "I know this isn't much. I'm not really a great artist, but I think your son would have wanted you to have this." The father opened the package. It was a portrait of his son, painted by the young man. He stared in awe at the way the soldier had captured the personality of his son in the painting. The father was so drawn to the eyes that his own eyes welled up with tears. He thanked the young man and offered to pay him for the picture. Oh, no sir, I could never repay what your son did for me. It's a gift." The father hung the portrait over his mantle. Every time visitors came to his home he took them to see the portrait of his son before he showed them any of the other great works he had collected. The man died a few months later. There was to be a great auction of his paintings. Many influential people gathered, excited over seeing the great paintings and having an opportunity to purchase one for their collection. On the platform sat the painting of the son. The auctioneer pounded his gavel. "We will start the bidding with this picture of the son. Who will bid for this picture?" There was silence. Then a voice in the back of the room shouted, "We want to see the famous paintings. Skip this one." But the auctioneer persisted. "Will someone bid for this painting? Who will start the bidding? $100, $200?" Another voice shouted angrily. "We didn't come to see this painting. We came to see the Van Goghs, the Rembrandts. Get on with the real bids!" I was not allowed to reveal that stipulation until this time. Only the painting of the son would be auctioned. Whoever bought that painting would inherit the entire estate, including the paintings. The man who took the son gets every thing!" God gave His son 2,000 years ago to die on a cruel cross. Much like the auctioneer, His message today is, "The son, the son, who'll take the son?" Because, you see, whoever takes the Son gets everything. --author unknown -- Please Visit My Master Genealogical Site http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~rosamili and follow the link there to GG's Genealogical Graphics Free Graphic Sets for the Genealogist Note If there is an +AH4- in the url take it out and replace it with a tilde , the key to the left of the number one along the top of the keyboard.
