    3. I had the Johnson List address under a personal friend's address...I finally figured out why I keep sending personal things to the list. I have deleted it, which should resolve the problem. Please, and one last time, forgive the mix up. I had cut back on nonessential obligations -- extensive card writing, endless baking, decorating, and even overspending. Yet still, I found myself exhausted, unable to appreciate the precious family moments, and of course, the true meaning of Christmas. My son, Nicholas, was in kindergarten that year. It was an exciting season for a six year old. For weeks, he'd been memorizing songs for his school's "Winter Pageant." I didn't have the heart to tell him I'd be working the night of the production. Unwilling to miss his shining moment, I spoke with his teacher. She assured me there'd be a dress rehearsal the morning of the presentation. All parents unable to attend that evening were welcome to come then. Fortunately, Nicholas seemed happy with the compromise. So, the morning of the dress rehearsal, I filed in 10 minutes early, found a spot on the cafeteria floor and sat down. Around the room, I saw several other parents quietly scampering to their seats. As I waited, the students were led into the room. Each class, accompanied by their teacher, sat cross-legged on the floor. Then, each group, one by one, rose to perform their song. Because the public school system had long stopped referring to the holiday as "Christmas", I didn't expect anything other than fun, commercial entertainment -- songs of reindeer, Santa Claus, snowflakes and good cheer. So, when my son's class rose to sing, "Christmas Love", I was slightly taken aback by its bold title. Nicholas was aglow, as were all of his classmates, adorned in fuzzy mittens, red sweaters, and bright snowcaps upon their heads. Those in the front row -- center stage -- held up large letters, one by one, to spell out the title of the song. As the class would sing "C is for Christmas", a child would hold up the letter C. Then, "H is for Happy", and on and on, until each child holding up his portion had presented the complete message, "Christmas Love". The performance was going smoothly, until suddenly, we noticed her -- a small, quiet, girl in the front row holding the letter "M" upside down -- totally unaware her letter "M" appeared as a "W". The audience of 1st through 6th graders snickered at this little one's mistake. But she had no idea they were laughing at her, so she stood tall, proudly holding her "W". Although many teachers tried to shush the children, the laughter continued until the last letter was raised, and we all saw it together. A hush came over the audience and eyes began to widen. In that instant, we understood -- the reason we were there, why we celebrated the holiday in the first place, why even in the chaos, there was a purpose for our festivities. For when the last letter was held high, the message read loud and clear: CHRIST WAS LOVE. And, I believe, He still is. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thanks, Hip, for sending me this. I am sharing it with everybody I can. Happy Holidays to all of you! --------------575B3BCAB99E5F85F8DB5326--

    2. I posted this many months ago with no response. Thought I'd try again for the new folks. While watching a video of ROOTS, I noted that the overseer of the plantation was George JOHNSON and his wife Martha. This would have been in 1864 in North Carolina. Also scribbled on my note is the word Ethan. I think that was Martha's last name. I don't know if George & Martha JOHNSON are real people or if the names were just made up to be used in ROOTS. Have fun climbing your tree. Marinell

    1. [JOHNSON] Re: Allie Reed, Eddings, Johnson
    2. Nolan & Judy Taylor
    3. List, I am new on your list (as of last night). I am looking for a lady that I am told went by the name of Allie Reed. She was born abt 1879 at Tate Co., Mississippi to John Walter Reed and Matilda Ward. NOTE: Allie may of went by the first name of Alice at one time or another. She married about 1900?? to Isaiah Alexander Eddings the first time. Soon, Isaiah died, leaving her with a small boy by Isaiah's first marriage. Some time past, for I happened to know she moved back with her parents for about 2 years. She then married to a man named Johnson. At this time, I beleave she in Arkansas. The rest of the family lost contact with her for some reason or another, years goes by. Then two of her brothers heard that Allie was living up in the mountains of Arkansas or Missouri someplace. They look for about a year, then find her. Mr. Johnson has passed on and she is living by herself. She is to weak to travel, so plans are made for a lot of the family to some up to see her, but she died first. I was told that she may be buried at Tiptonville, Tennessee but the people their say they can't find her record if she buried there. I am on the Eddings list already and no-one knows anything or saying anyway. I have no idea if she had any children . I have almost hit a "brick wall" with Allie. Can anyone tell me anything more? About Mr. Johnson? Thanks. NOLAN

    3. I am looking for this family reportedly born in KY. Jos W Johnson b KY abt 1830. Wife Sarah----- b in KY abt 1830. children: Nancy b abt 1848 in KY. William b abt 1852 in KY. Henry b abt 1855. Andrew b abt 1857. Angeline b abt 1859 Betsy b abt 1861-62. James Wilson b April 24 1864 in KY Margaret b 1866 in KY Issabel b 1872 in AR. I believe the father's name to be James Wilson Johnson as was his son's name. I believe this family should be listed in KY at least from 1830 to 1860... I have gone county by county trying to locate them but there is no consistency between census in the various counties so very hard to compare.. 1880 and 1860 and 1840.... Can any one help me or tell me what I might do to find this family? I do not see a way to continue my research until I know what county they came from? I realize they may moved around. Also I have not been able to find a marriage for James and Sarah. This family appeared on the 1870 census in AR. they are my gggp and great grand father. Thank you, Patricia Murrell Mata Pocahontas, AR

    3. My great grandmother's name was Clara Hazel "Peggy" Johnson. She was born 18 Jun 1896 in the Detroit Lakes, MN area. Her parents were Fredrick "Freddie" Albert Johnson and Fanny "Fan" Viola Courtright. Freddie was born 17 Apr 1874 in Dunnville, Ontario, Canada. Freddie's parents were Henry Richard Johnson and Clara Hazel Swarts. Her maiden name or name from her first marriage was Beatty or Beattie. Henry was born about 1848, Clara about 1852, both of Dunnville, Ontario, Canada. Henry and Clara had 4 children. One, Henry William, fell of a church roof, the land for the church was donated by Henry. Another son, George, died as a child. And then other than Freddie and the other two boys, they had a daughter, Ella Josephine. If any of this sounds familiar, my family and I have been looking a long time and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, -Paige
