He lives at Elmhurst, The Mains, Gigglewick, Settle. He says he cannot help me, yet has sent similiar pictures to the ones I sent him. He doesn't seem interested . Jeannet Greiving I know of no other meaning to GAR than "Grand Army of the Republic", ie Union Veteran. I have come across other people for whom the claim was made that they had served in the Civil War while their date-of-birth would seem to render that unlikely. (One was born as late as 1854.) In that case the only possibility would seem to have been service as a drummer-boy, which probably did legitimately count as military service. I don't see any problem with David Johnson having been an actual soldier. I have the enlistment papers of my Civil War ancestor and he was 16 when he served. Ed Margerum

    3. Am searching for g g grandfather Clarence Daniel JOHNSON b. ca 1800. He was listed on some info I have as being from Sweden but his son has him as being from Ky on a census. I do know that he moved to Giles Co. Tn. where some of his children were born. He married Celia Adeline COLE b. Feb 19, 1811. Their children are: Alice, Elizabeth, Amanda Melvina, Helena, Thomas Wilkerson, Martha and Caldonia. This is all the info I have on him. Have more on some of the children if that would be helpful.     3. I am looking for the family of my great grandmother, Clara Hazel "Peggy" Johnson. Here is what I have of her family: Her parents were Fredrick Albert Johnson and Fanny Viola Courtright. Fredrick was born 17 Apr 1873 in Dunnville, Ontario, Canada. They moved to the Detroit Lakes area of MN where they had 7 of their 8 children. The children were Clara Hazel, Dewey William, Gertrude Alice, Ella May, Mary Jane, Fredrick Henry, Daniel Floyd, and Elva. Elva was born in Granville, McHenry County, SD. From there they moved to OR. Fredrick Albert's parents were Henry Richard Johnson and Clara Hazel (Beatty) Swarts. Henry was also born in Dunnville the 22 Jan 1848. Their children were Henry William, George, Fredrick Albert, and Ella Josephine. The first three were born in Dunnville. Ella was born in Becker County, MN. If any of this sounds familiar, if you could e-mail me back I'd appreciate it. My grandmother is still alive and whenever I find anything about her side of the family she gets really excited.
