Names of children We need these because for every David Johnson or John Johnson there are at least a dozen more not related to the David or John we search. And probably more George W., and Ben F. and William. Far too many sources (census before 1850 and wills) don't show names of spouses, siblings, and children so we can't tell who the named person relates to. -- Gerald Dr. Gerald N. 1. Re: [CAMPBELL] Indian slaves in Virginia
    2. Howdy Cousins. Lilly & Phyllis, I will not Say no to the Posibility of Abigal/Abigail as having been a Slave, BUT I was raised in that area, I personally Know of There being, Afro American Youngsters being taken in & given a home, ONE in particular, There were abt a Dozen kids in the Family, of Afro Americans, The Whole Family existed on Less that three Should have had to call life Bearable. One of the Girls used to Do My Mothers Laundry for the ONLY full Meal she Had that Week. Mama Taught her to Cook & SEW & Patch Clothes, Her only Problem was NO CHANCE at home. Her Brother Went & Lived at the home of My Fathers Sister & Family of 7 Children, Now Believe me Cousins in the mid 1930,s one more mouth was a Burden. But this Afro American lived Worked With & For My Aunt & Cousins for a home, but was not a slave, as was just as likely for Cousin Henry Campbell & Abigal/Abigail. Check out the Census Records that we Come by & often there is an Extra head with Another Name & Race. I am not trying to Defend Slavery, But, Rather Attempting to Better understand the potential Hardship of so many people. What was AS bad if not worse, was the treatment of so many people in that Central Va area, was the Policy of the officialdom that would take a Wayward Girl as they Called it, comit her to the Training center, Sterilize her & Farm her out to a family as a domestic. This is not MY biased opinion there have Cases taken to court & Proven that the People were missed treated. In a Case in Particular in Albemarle County Va NOT very many Years ago. This treatment was in effect From 1924 to 1942 Promoted By a misguided State official in charge of the Vital Statistics, WHO went so far as to OFFICIALLY state that there were No Indians in Va because their Skin did not Match the Texture of the Indians of Colorado. NOW this may not sound like GENEALOGY, to some people, but when there arises a question as to Cousin Henry Campbell leaving $25.00 to one, <Abigal/Abigail a Servant Indian Woman> I Believe that a More in-depth observation becomes Nessary. I hope that this will not be Misinterpreted. A T POWELL,Jr. <[email protected]>
