I'm still looking for any DESCENDANTS out there who descend from John H. Johnson or Jonathan H. Johnson (was called Jonathan on 1850 Pontotoc Co., MS census), born about 1835 and his wife, Dorcas Gentry. I believe he either ended up in Union Co. or Lee Co., rather than Pontotoc, but I could be wrong. I'm just looking for some new Johnson-type cousins, that's all. John's parents were Randolph Johnson and Elizabeth (Ashby) Johnson. Let me hear from you if you're out there! Sue (Johnson) Howard
Thank you Sue, this is what we do on the Cox line, and it certainly does help. My Cox line married Johnson - my GGGrandmother, but I can not find out any information on her. Almarinda Susan Johnson, b. 1830, possibly N.C. or GA. She married my GGGrandfather, John W. Cox, August 29, 1847 - where I also can not find. In the John W. Cox Bible, which I have, Almarinda writes that her name was Johnson, and date of birth and date of marriage, along with her 9 children. She does not write John W. Cox's place of birth only date, 1828. Evidently she did not know where? I finally found a way to get a copy of his DAR records. Can anyone tell me what is the typical entry for these records? Three brothers served in the Rev war. Capt Arthur and Capt Andrew and John. I think John was a Tory. There is so much mis-information in postings, like ancestry, I guess I will not try to write to everyone. But my pet peeve is that Arthur and Margaret Phares Johnson are parents to all of Arthur's kids. Margaret Phares was b in 1736. Arthur was b in 1747. Anyone know Arthur Sr's first 2 wives? Thanks folks Reba Johnson
You mentioned Rockbridge Co., VA, what can you tell me about the Johnsons from there? My gg grandfather, John A. Johnson has on his tombstone, born July 14, 1814 in Rockbridge Co., VA. He is buried in Anderson Co., TN. He had 4 sons by an unknown wife in Knox Co. and then married Mary Eliza Hensley in Knox Co. and had 10 more children. As my husband put it we now have a new brick in the oven. We have an ALFRED BOLEN who married KEZIAH JOHNSTON in Hawkins County. We have since found that Keziah was a half sister to Abner, Anderson & Thomas Johnson who were the sons of Stephen Johnson son of Thomas Johnson. I recently sent for a death record for Pleasant Bolen son of Keziah and Alfred. Pleasant died in CA in 1920 but the kicker is it gives Keziah's maiden name as Mainer(maybe Manis?). Does anyone know anything at all about the possible connections? Paula J -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. I'm looking for the ancestral line of this Joseph J. Johnson, who lived in Dale County, Alabama. Married to Harriet Chancey. They had four children. Census says born in SC. He died following the Battle of Chickamauga. Thank you, Jerry Crumly Pensacola
The Wiley Johnson I am researching is found in the 1860 census for Godon County, GA. They are listed as follows: Wiley Johnson age 33 born SC Arilla age 33 born SC Levenia age12 born SC Catherine age 8 born SC Aldridge age 3 born SC Emma age 2 born SC The ages of the children would indicate the family would have been in SC for the 1850 census. They are not to be found. I have searched Ancestry.com and records on line for a marriage of a Wiley and Arilla without success. If anyone can help me with any suggestions for finding where in SC the family would have orginated I would be most grateful. Thank you. Sue
