I am looking for any information on William Johnston of Ga pre 1790. My William came to the Colonies about 1740. He arrived at the port at St. Marys GA according to old letters left by 2 grandchildren. He married (according to letters) Honor Killingsworth. I find no record of this or any Honor. The only son I can find is John who moved to what is now Washington Co., Al. William stayed in GA. where he died probably in early 1790s. Does anyone descend from any of the several William John(s)ton of early GA. What records do you have. I have this. No way all can be the same William.. and we all know that the "T" in Johnston is sometimes left out. From Savanah Council 1745 - 1759 1745 - list of persons- Monies received from Several Persons hereafter named for the following purpose - To be appplied for establishing the colony - William Johnson, Esq - 20 pounds 1748- William Johnson petitioned board for 200 acres. - Rejected - Inhabitant of SC 1755- Read petition of William Johnson of this Province Taylor, praying for 200 acres - Rejected 1755- Read a petition of William JOHNSTON of this province, setting forth that he had a wife and 5 children, that he was possessed of 50 acres of land on the Island of Skidaway by allotment of the late President and Assitants which was not sufficient for support of himself and family; and therefore praying for 350 acres of land on said Island of Skidaway, bounding to the southward on lands granted Thomas Bratton. Resolved that 300 acres of land, being part of the ptayer of the petition be granted where prayed for: the petitioner having sworn to 7 persons in family. Resolved - That three hundred Acres of Land, being part of the Prayer of the Petition, be granted, where prayed for, the petitioner having sworn to seven Persons in Family 1757 - Read a Petition of William Johnson setting forth that he was desirous of a lott in Savanah - rejected 1757 - Read petition of William Johnson setting forth that he was become a settler in this Province having wife and two children and was desirous of obtaining a Grant of Lands for Cultivation and Praying for 200 acres of Land at a Place called Tuckasee Kings on Savanah River adjoining Lands this day Petitioned for by John Hopkins which if granted he promised to Cultivate the same. - RESOLVED... that on Condition only that the Petitioner doth take out a Grant for the said Land within Seven Months from this date thereof that his Majesty maynot be defrauded of his Quit Rents Then Part of Prayer of said Petition namely One hundred and fifity Acres of Land is granted, the Petitioner having sworn to the Number of his family and to improve said land. Any Help would be appreciated. Betty
Linda, Noted your Albert Larkin Johnson. Larkin is a name that is also found in my Johnson family kin. A little background: There were four brother, Thomas, Stephen, James and William, all of Halifax County, Virginia, who went westward and settled in Tennessee by 1800. Thomas, James and Stephen (my ancestor) settled in Hawkins County while William settled in Jefferson County. Thomas had a son named Larkin (b c1788) , and a grandson (through son Sanford) named Larkin (born c1828 in Hawkins County), and a second grandson (through son James) also named Larkin (born c1839 in Grainger County). While I don't see a Daniel listed as a name for any of the children or grandchildren of the four brother, it must be noted that Thomas Johnson's father-in-law was Daniel Hutcheson. I don't see Joel listed as a name for any of the children or grandchildren either. I also do not know any of the names of children born to the elder Larkin Johnson. > Subject: The Daniel & Joel Johnson families > > Hi, My name is Linda Griffin and I have a Proquest Library car and I am > from > CA. -------Original Message------- From: Linda Griffin Date: 06/16/06 11:15:30 To: [email protected] Subject: RE: The Daniel & Joel Johnson families Subject: The Daniel & Joel Johnson families Hi, My name is Linda Griffin and I have a Proquest Library car and I am from CA. My Johnson family migrated about in the 1820's on Down to McMinn Co., TN --then in about 1840 moved over to Bradley Co., TN where they stay until they died. Just know that these two children Daniel born ABT. 1818 in NC and his brother Joel in 1814 in NC. Trying to find out who their parents were. Found a Daniel Johnson family on the 1800 Census report to be over 45 and the same with his wife. Then there was a Joel Johnson family which I figure is Daniel's son in the 10-25 year old age group and a female in the 26-through 44 age group. It shows that in the Joel Johnson household there are two children under two. In his father's household or I believe it is his father who is in the 45 and over age category and the mother the same 45 and over and they have several children. How can I find out their wives names and their children's names. I do not have the census that would tell about Daniel born in 1818 and Joel born in 1814. We know they traveled in large family groups. Then in a census of McMinn Co., TN it shows a Joel Johnson-listed as 50-6- years old with another member of his family-probably his wife. In the 1840 census it lists Joel as 6-7- years old and an older female living with him. The # of the census was MC 120. Then is list Daniel and Joel as grown ups and married. Mc111 that was for Daniel and the same # for Joel as 30-40 years old and having a male child at home. We know who this male child is. Albert Larkin Johnson. So Daniel and his wife moved to Bradley Co., in ABT. 1840 with his wife Margaret Brannon and they had all their children there. Joel and his wife Elizabeth ? Had all their children in McMinn Co., TN then moved over to Bradley Co., TN ABT. 1850--where they all stay and died there accept for one child a Joel Erie Johnson and his wife Isabell Triplett moved to McMinn Co. TN in about 1868. If you can find this family in NC or point me in another direction I sure would appreciate it. My last uncle is 75 and would like to find this out before he dies. Thank you, Linda (Johnson) Griffin
Hi Tony, Maybe you or someone else can help me with my hurtle. My ancestor is James Andrew Johnson born about 1815 in Grassy Greek, NC. He married Nancy Jane Buchanan, daughter of Arthur Buchanan and Temperance Vance. Their children were Buena, Wiley, James, Elizabeth, Mary Ann, Hannah, Martha, John and Sue Ellen. I can not find any information on who James' parents were. Hi to All, We have to go to Oregon. Harry's Navy Buddy died Sunday. He is the first of Harry's group to go. That makes it a bit tough for him. They are a very close group from the USN "USS Philippine Sea" A ship and its crew who fought to keep us all free. OneĀ last cruise was to Korea and it battled a huge storm on the way home to the United States Of America and the storm put it in dry dock never to return to the sea that this beautify ship loved so much. It's time now to make this journey to bid a fond farewell to one of America's best, Mac Donald Johnson Of the United StatesĀ Navy. "Anchors Away My Boy". "Here's wishing you a happy voyage home" back to your Heavenly Father from whence you came. Farewell till we meet again dear friend. Aloha. Talk to you on Sunday Our love to all, Harry and Beverly. OH Yes Cuz BEV & Harry, One of my Grt Grand Mother's was A Johnson. HAPPY BON Voyage & Happy Landing. CUZ A T <[email protected]> .
I have Read Most of Cousin Sue's Postings, & so far not found any one that I believed connected to My Johnson Family. But I Just so Happen to realize that, <CUZ A. T.> is not the ONLY Johnson Descendant Researching. BUT. I believe THIS, That these 4 words are the Foundation for the Greatest Genealogical Wall one will ever encounter. <IT JUST CANT BE> AND the Best method of Learning is to, <ASK & ANSWER QUESTIONS SOME ONE KNOWS> AND: It is beyond the Ficklest Figment of Imagination, as to WHY Someone would Subscribe to a Family List, When Most of Family Lists are Connected to that Family All over the world, & then WHINE about what someone POSTS that reaches ONES COMPUTER. LETS KEEP ON, KEEPING ON. I am always finding NEW COUSINS. THAT is why I am subscribed, Someone JUST might post something that I am Looking For. CUZ A. T. <[email protected]>
Dear List, Can anybody out there identify James Johnson, living in "Cedar Bluff", Burdine Twp. in the 1860 census? James is age 45, b. TN. He is married to Nancy, 45, b. TN. Their childrren are John R., b. 1839 TN: Leroy R., b. 1842 GA: James M, b. 1844 TN: Nancy E., b. 1837 MO: Watkins N. (?) b. 1852 MO: and Missouri A. b. 1857 MO. They are next door to H. H. Jones, age 40, b. TN. This would be Hyrum Hudson Jones, son of Joshua Todhunter Jones. Any info appreciated. Thank you, Judy in TX
I'll second that. I read all the Johnson messages. You never know when you will get a hit from out in left field. I am also looking for information on the Ingram, Pickett, Boulware/Bowler, Raines, Duke, Torbert and Bell lines. These families started out mostly in VA and PA and moved to SC and eventually GA. Some of them also went to TN and Texas. These posts can and have saved me a lot of time and effort because I don't have to duplicated the research, even when it is negative. I really appreciate anyone who is willing to take the time and effort to post the results of their research. BTW if anyone is researching in the Calhoun County, GA area I have transcribed the cemetery census for the churchs in the area (up to 1990) and some of the U.S. Census. The link (if you need it) is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gacalhou/ Also a little bit for the Clay Co., GA web site. John R. Excuse me, but then why have you been on the Johnson list, if you didn't want to receive genealogical information? I read everything that comes across my computer that has anything to do with the particular names I'm searching - one of them being Johnson. But, I have to tell you that you will have to write to the list owner, and I am not that person. I was just trying to help somebody - anybody - but of course, I knew there had to be one person, if not two or more, out there who would object - just because you didn't find anything on your particular Johnson family. Now, if you are not a researcher or genealogist, then I don't know how or why in the world you are receiving these e-mails, and if that's true, then I apologize. LOL Ryan you are receiving every single email because 1. you've subscribed to the list in mail mode, which means that you will receive every message that gets posted to the list. and 2. because you've subscribe to a Genealogy list that sends messages to one address ([email protected]) which will then be sent out to every member of the list. If you have questions about the 'why's' then send it to [email protected] and that will be delivered to who ever the list owner is. If you don't want to receive Johnson information then you unsub the same way you originally joined which most likely is [email protected] click on the link or type it into a new message & put u n s u b s c r i b e (minus all of the spaces) & there you go chances are you'll be taken off the list. IF that doesn't work, use the Johnson-Admin addy & ask them for help :) Alli :) searching for James Samuel & Nancy Worth(y) Johnson: Children: James Jefferson Johnson b. 1865 Tipton, Mo. married Georgia A. ? divorced w/2 kids in 1898 Pawhuska, Okla. married Martha Jane Phariss b. Hello Verla, I am interested in your Johnsons. I don't know whether or not we connect. Our James Johnson and wife Sylvia Bliss had one son named Oliver Erwin Johnson, born 1868 in Iowa. Do you know the county in Iowa where your Oliver was born? My email address is [email protected] Debby Jorgensen
Judy, Are you sure that it is not James Mitchell Johnson, born 09 Mar 1844 ten who died on 23 Aug 1922 Cabool, Texas Co. Mo. ? I am assuming that you have the family on the 1850 Texas Co. Dist 98 census, the 1860 Texas, Berdine, PO Cedar Bluff census and the 1879 Mo., Pulaski, Liberty, Po Waynesville census This appears to be the family of James T Johnson, born 1814 Tenn. Nancy born 1838 and children: James Mitchell John Robinson born 1839 Tenn died 1883 Leroy R born 1842 Tenn Mary E born 1848 I find that its very interesting that on one census the family is next door to William Johnson and Lucinda. Who are they? One one census they are next door to Hyrum Hudson Jones and family, the son of Joshua Todhunter Jones. The name James Mitchell, James T, John Robinson and Mary E instead of Nancy, are from a LDS report. I do not have any of these people on my databases. This is certainly interesting though.
