    2. Hi All; My great grandmother was Annie E. Clough (1846-1918) who was the daughter of Otha Clough born around 1817 and Ann Rebecka Johnson born around 1818. Otha and Ann Rebecka married on March 20, 1845 in Goochland Co., VA. I believe the father of Ann Rebecka is Thomas F. Johnson who was born around 1790 in Goochland Co., VA. In the Census for 1850 in Goochland Co., VA. Thomas F. Johnson is shown as the head of the household with two male children and 3 female children. His wife must have been deceased at this time because no adult female is shown in this census. By chance can anyone tell me anything about this Johnson Family of Goochland Co., VA? Anything at all will be greatly appreciated. Best Regards, Bernie Bland in Springfield, VA

    1. Roll Call.. Johns(t)on - Alabama Washington Co, to Texas
    2. My Johnston family goes back to John Johnston Sr of Washington Co, AL. He was born abt. 1750 probably in GA and died in 1820 in Washington Co, AL. His will is listed in Mobile, AL. Some of his descendants in OK that descend from his son John (Called Col. John by most to distinguish between many Johns) go by JOHNSON. I descend down through his grandson John L. Johnston who came to Texas about 1840. My main brick wall is John Sr. father. Thought to be William Johnston who came to the colonies about 1840. He (according to accounts left by 2 of his grandchildren) married Honor Killingsworth. He landed at St. Mary's, GA. and married there and had several children .. the names of these children I have not proven.. but were supposed to be John, James, Isaac, Joseph, and possibly Daniel or David.. Any help of Johns(t)ons on GA appreciated. Even just to rule them out. Betty Vaughn.... A Texan Lost in the Carolinas

    3. Hey All: Here is my Johnson family. David Johns(t)on b. 1788 in Wilkinson County, Georgia. By the mid-1830's, he had moved to Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana where he owned a house, property and slaves. In 1840, David married Hanna Frederika Hoffman in either New Orleans, Louisiana or Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. In 1841, their son, Alexander Henry Johns(t)on was born. In 1852, David died in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. According to last will & testament, he noted that no brothers nor sisters were alive at the time of his death. So he must have had siblings. I have no parents names, for this is one of my biggest brickwalls. Any help whatsoever is greatly appreciated. The names David, Alexander, and Edward repeat throughout generations in this Johns(t)on family. Thanks. 1. PLEASE} THIS SHOULD BE READ BY ALL-THIS IS WHY WE DO GENEALOGY
    2. GENEALOGY AND WHY WE DO IT  We are the chosen. In each family there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. Doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the story tellers of the tribe. All tribes have one. We have been called, as it were, by our genes. Those who have gone before cry out to us: Tell our story. So, we do. In finding them, we somehow find ourselves. How many graves have I stood before now and cried? I have lost count. How many times have I told the ancestors, "You have a wonderful family; you would be proud of us." How many times have I walked up to a grave and felt somehow there was love there for me? I cannot say. It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who am I and why do I do the things I do. It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be lost forever to weeds and indifference and saying I can't let this happen. The bones here are bones of my bone and flesh of my flesh. It goes to doing something about it. It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to accomplish. How they contributed to what we are today. It goes to respecting their hardships and losses, their never giving in or giving up, their resoluteness to go on and build a life for their family. It goes to deep pride that the fathers fought and some died to make and keep us a Nation. It goes to a deep and immense understanding that they were doing it for us. It is of equal pride and love that our mothers struggled to give us birth, without them we could not exist, and so we love each one, as far back as we can reach. That we might be born who we are. That we might remember them. So we do. With love and caring and scribing each fact of their existence, because we are they and they are the sum of who we are. So, as a scribe called, I tell the story of my family. It is up to that one called in the next generation to answer the call and take my place in the long line of family storytellers. That is why I do my family genealogy, and that is what calls those young and old to step up and restore the memory or greet those whom we had never known before. (unknown author) PLEASE, I have found NO OTHER statement to better explain our effort. YES I know there is no Family information here, BUT i see so much posted that I believe this BIT Could bring us to better understand WHY we try to do the things that we do, SO as to reap that great feeling we get when some one is able to find that Answer that we have all been trying so hard to locate & just THINK that BIT that <SOME ONE> You, Your Cousin or that Persistent OLD Pest that so often gets trashed, What do you know THA ole goat finally found something. 1. Re: [JOHNSON] Nancy Johnson & Transferring data to new computer
    2. Brec Morton
    3. If you have a friend who has Yahoo Messenger you can send them your files in packets of about 7 to 10 megabytes of zipped files from your old computer. Have them save them to a separate folder. When you have sent what you want transferred. Switch computers, sign on to Yahoo messenger and have them send them back. They can delete the entire folder in one step after you are sure the data has come through cleanly. Choose someone you trust or don't send sensitive information (Bank Account, etc.) Usually you just have to send pictures, data files, etc. You should be able to reload programs onto the new computer. I have used this method and it works really well. There are other ways, I am sure but this is fairly uncomplicated. Brec I have a Nancy JOHNSON but she married Josiah MORTON.

    3. OK, Everybody, feel free to poast to me, telling me, you found my NANCY JOHNSON !!! hehe She was supposed to have married Thomas D. Gowen in SC about 1799. They wound up in Louisiana. Also had several children; on was Stephen Breckenridge Gowen born in SC. He had a son named Hadley (Had) Goynes, who raised his nephew, my grandfather William Simon Goynes. Hadley was on the 1880 Trinity C. TX census as a one armed man age about 40-43, born LA. Married to Mary age about 23, and nephew, William age 1 . This nephew was apparently my GrPa. I say the ages above as "about" because I don't remember off hand their ages. I have a new pc, and don't know how to get the info from my old one to this one ! The old one did not have cd burner, and the new one does not have a floppy disk drive . Anyone got ideas to help ? Be Blessed, Lorene

    3. Well, I have diligently read all of the e-mails coming through about the JOHNSON clan, and haven't yet seen any of my people, so I thought I'd send them once again to see if any of you "new" JOHNSON contributors might know my family. Here goes: Allen JOHNSON was born in about 1796, in Ohio, and died on January 11, 1858. He married Elizabeth UNKNOWN, born about 1803 in Maryland, and died sometime after 1860. Their children: 1. John Allen JOHNSON, b. March 18, 1827 in Ohio, and died before 1900. He married Jane VAN BUSKIRK on September 11, 1852, then married Adaline LONGBERRY on February 04, 1868. 2. William JOHNSON, was born in about 1828 (probably Ohio) 3. Ann Caroline JOHNSON was born in 1829 in Ohio, and died in 1918 in New Lancaster, Miami County, Kansas. On June 19, 1851, she married David Taylor HEWITT. This marriage took place in Marion County, Ohio. 4. Phillip JOHNSON was born in about 1833 (probably Ohio) 5. Elenor JOHNSON (Eleanor, Ellinor) was born in April 1835 in Larue, Ohio. She died on May 24, 1921 in Houston, Harris County, Texas. She married John Montgomery CANFIELD sometime around 1850. (This marriage probably took place in Ohio.) They settled in Paola, Miami County (then called Lykins County), Kansas and after John Montgomery CANFIELD'S death, Elenor moved to Houston. 6. Olivar JOHNSON, born about 1839. 7. Israel JOHNSON, born About 1841 8. Mary A. JOHNSON, born in about 1843. 9. Harmon JOHNSON, born in about 1849 This is all of the children I have right now. I do have some of the information on the offspring of the JOHNSON children listed above. Any help would be SO much appreciated! Blessings, Susan Strain <>< "Kinfolk Korner"

    3. My husbands great grandfather was John W. Johnson born 1834-1835 in SC. He appeared in Madison, Florida sometime in the mid 1850's as he married Phebe Sapp in Jan. 1859 in Madison County, Florida. We believe he traveled to Madison with a Marshall Johnson family (Marshall was a deaf mute so noted on the 1860 census for Madison, Fla.) We found Marshall Johnson on the 1850 Census in Abbeville, SC also noted as a deaf mute. This Marshall Johnson was listed in the same area as a John B. Johnson age 44 born in SC with wife Euphemia. Amongst children listed was a John W. Johnson age 14 born in SC-we bellieve this 14 year old boy of John B. Johnson was my husbands great grandfather. John B. died between 1860-1870.
