I'm looking for info on my great grandfather, Harold Johns(t)on, b. 1828 in AL, according to census. On AL census he is listed as Harrell Johnston. In 1860 he was living in Macon Co, AL according to the census, with his wife, Louisa and family. Around 1861 Harold and his family moved to Bradley Co, AR. I believe Harold died in AR before 1900. Harold married 4 times, the last time being to my great grandmother, Martha E. Smith. On their marriage license is showed his name being Harold Johnson. Don't know if it could have been Johnston and later the "t" was dropped or if it was always wrong. I'm trying to find out where Harold was born and who his family was. The census shows his parents were born in NC. Harold may have been part Indian. Any help locating my missing link would be appreciated. Thanks for any help, Pam Temple

I am looking for information on the ancestors of Littleberry Johnson b. 1804, d. 1880 in TN. He married Edy George, they moved to Paint Rock Valley and joined the Paint Rock Baptist Church in 1831. He became an ordained minister in 1837 and was one of the most widely known preachers in the area. He and Edy are buried in the Foochee Cem. in Louden Co, TN. His parents were Edmund & Elizabeth "Durham" Johnson (both buried at Foochee Cemetery). After Edmund, I believe the list goes like this: James & Catherine "Durham" Johnson from Brunswick Co., VA > James & Mary "Johnson" Johnson from Isle of Wight Co., VA > Benjamin & Mary Johnston of IOW Co., VA > William & Sarah Johnston of IOW Co., VA > Edmund Johnston of Annandale, Dumfrieshire, Scotland. He came to Jamestown in 1639. This is the line as I have been told by another researcher. Does any else share this line? Michele

I am working on the family of Frederick Johnson and Sarah Stevenson, married about 1770 in Johnston County, NC. CLAIBORN JOHNSON, b. about 1770, probably South Carolina. Married MARY "Polly". Their daughter, SARAH JOHNSON, b. 1793 in Greenville Cty., SC. She married ZACHARIAH KYTLE about 1810-1812 and they had several children in SC before they moved and had several more children in Habersham County, Georgia. SARAH and ZACHARIAH KYTLE are my 3greats grandparents. Thanks Pat Lyle Kramer
My Johnson line comes from Frances S. Johnson, who was born April 3, 1804 in America, Lee County, Kentucky. She married Daniel REEDER in Todd County KY, May 5, 1825. Daniel REEDER's first wife was Mary NICHOLS, who died after the birth of their second son. A Todd County KY Deed book lists the heirs of John JOHNSON: his widow, Elizabeth, of Todd County; John W. JOHNSON, William B. JOHNSON, John P. and Sarah Johnson GUTHRIE, William and Margaret Johnson WITTY, and Daniel REEDER [who was granted power of Attorney], all of Adams County Illinois. Frances S. JOHNSON REEDER, was not mentioned but had recently given birth to her tenth child at the time of this hearing September 1848). I believe that she was unable to attend and therefore her husband acted on her behalf through his power of attorney. John JOHNSON's wife Elizabeth (and presumably mother of Frances) has been listed on census records as born in SC, but I need to know her maiden name. Census records dispute whether John was born in Ireland or SC. I tend to collect all the leads I can find in an effort to identify John's and his wife's parents. Another document from Abstracts of Wills and Settlements, Logan Co. KY 1795-1838 that shows a Johnson-Price connection: Johnson, James J., Book D, page 271 To Mary Johnson, cousin, $100.00 out of my watch, the balance to go to cousins, James and Thomas Johnson; to John Johnson, cousin, $100.00; to Thomas Price, relationship not listed, sword cane; to John W. Vineyard, relationship not listed, the other pistol, also to get "my new suit of clothes after paying my taylor's (sic) bill"; Cousin John Johnson's little accounts he has out to me to be paid; balance of clothes to go to cousins James and Thomas Johnson, balance of property to be equally divided between my brothers and sisters. Cousin William Johnson to "attend to it". Cousin William D. Price is to have the value of my pistols. Noncupative will given 3 Nov. 1829. Exec.: William Johnson, cousin. Wit.: Nancy Johnson and Samuel Price proved will except devise to James and Thomas Johnson for balance of clothes which was proved by Nancy Johnson and Major I. Price. Witnesses also proved this will was made in the illness of which he died. Date of probate: 8 Dec. 1829. Roberta

I am researching a David Johnson who was a realtor in St. Louis, MO ca 1880-1890. He was the father of Elizabeth Duke's daughter, Helen, but never a husband to Elizabeth as far as I can find. Bobbie
My Johnson family is the Wiley Johnson family. Wiley was born in SC in 1824. Wiley married Arvilla Unknown. One of the children from the marriage was Emma who married my Great Grandfather, Nathaniel Scott McBride. The marriage occurred after Wiley and some of the children moved to Yell Couty, Arkansas. The family is found in the 1860 census of Gordon County, GA. Arvilla died sometime in the 1850s. I have not found Wiley and Arvilla in the 1850 census for SC. The ages and birthplaces of the children listed on the 1860 GA census would indicate the family would have been in SC in 1850 I cannot find a marriage for Wiley and Arvilla, Civil War records for a Wiley Johnson from Gordon County, GA. or any other of the many things I have tried to check. Sue S.
Since the first post, we find that McIntosh might not have been the maiden name of Mrs. Amy Johnson. It may be her new married name after my Grandfather Jim Johnson passed away. There is also a mention of an Uncle Lock. There was mention of a Sidney. It is not known what Sidney and Lock's last names are. And also, Alex Johnson was a brother to my father. I hope someone might have some answers. I am interested in getting a DNA test. Any direction in the best test to take? Are there any family associations or groups for the Johnson family that would be a better place to order a DNA test through a family project? Thanks, Glenn My first post: My father Tom Johnson was born in Belmont, TX in 1918. His obituary states that he was the son of Jim or James Johnson and Amy McIntosh. I know that my father spent some of his youth in Oklahoma and he married a Lauderdale in San Antonio around 1940 give or take a few years. He had brothers Jim, Andrew, and Arthur that we know of. Our family has spread to New Mexico , California, Utah, and Colorado. Dad was next to youngest with Arthur being his little brother. He mentioned Caney, Shawnee, and Henrietta, OK for Oklahoma places. Any information on Johnson or McIntosh or associated families will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Glenn in TX [email protected] __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com
