On 1880 census for Polk Co., AR, I found my first link to the past, even though the name has been transcribed incorrectly. They spelled it Johnsen instead of Johnson. John Johnson, abt 1827, [he puts AR, but the two children I have info for both put him down as from TN] John also states on census that his folks were from MD and KY. with Louisa, abt 1833 John J. is not listed here, but did raise his family there in Polk Co., AR. I don't see it immediately. It was about a family that descended from Thomas Jefferson and moved to that county long about 1805. Then that James Johnson moved to Christian Co, KY as sheriff by 1808 or 1809. I saw in some records that late in 1810 he married and became a Methodist circuit rider giving up law enforcement. He was mentioned in court and county government records often, primarily wanting a jail that would actually hold prisoners. He should have also been mentioned in the book series by Sweet on Religion on the Frontier. Jno / John W R JOHNSON married the second time at age 23, on 25 May 1876, in Petersburg, VA, to Ellen E HALL, daughter of Jas & Mary HALL. I alredy have data on many lines and thanks to this forum have compared notes with a cousin Phyllis. But due to the proliferation of Johnsons (many of them in Dixie!) I intend to sign off soon.
