Hi, I am researching a James Johnson who supposedly married a Matilda Fears, a daughter of William Fears and Susanna White. James Johnson married Matilda Fears 1 Feb 1821 in Lawrence County, AL. I do not have a primary source for this marriage. I can find a James Johnson in the 1830 Lawrence County, AL census. I can also find a James Johnson in the 1840 Lawrence County, AL. James Johnson is on the same page as an A. (Archibald) Livingston, a William Fears, and a H.J. (Hansford J.) Fears. I believe all these individuals have a connection to William Fears and Susanna White. Does anyone know what happen to this couple, James and Matilda Johnson, in 1850? Thanks for your time. Gordie Fears
I have question for who ever handles DNA testing for the JOhnson list, please email me. Thanks Barbara Johnson-Thames [email protected]
Would be grateful to know if the Elbridge Johnson b 1827 in Brownfield, ME (or possibly Wells/York, ME) to Calvin Johnson & Sally Hawkins is the same Elbridge who married Eliza (and Phoebe) Littlefield? Also is Calvin Johnson b 1807 the husband of both Sally Hawkins and Louisa/Lovina Rogers? Thanks.
Will be on vacation from the 15th of Aug. Until Sept. 15th. Will have no access to a computer where I'm going. They don't even have a Library in this town. Just get lots of rest and hunt for Agates..they are special rock and are beautiful and very hard to find while my husband fishes for King Salmon along with our two sons who come up for a week every year and my brother who lives not very far away ..Will mill you and I guess I can catch up on my reading. Especially the book called "Rebellion in Bradley County, East Tennessee." The original was printed in 1866 I believe with out having to get up and go and find it. Think it is already packed. So if any of you get your DNA tests back by then..contact Harold Johnson who is in charge of the DNA Services and maybe I will have a new cousin or more. This group is like a huge family to me anyway. Don't know if others feel this way like I do. Sure do love you all! Linda (Johnson )Griffin My father was the Johnson and all his brothers but the test was done on the only remaining brother that my father had left and thank goodness he finally decided to do this and he never knew that I paid for the test and will never know. He knows only enough to peck at the computer to chat some with me. I'm the oldest granddaughter in my father's family of eight children. Thank goodness they all stayed pretty close and lived in the same state which is TN. Now hear I am living in CA and the only one in my family interested in doing this. Cuz' Linda

Hi Lists: I am once again trying to find information out about my elusive Johnston family. Here is a little background on the clan. David Johns(t)on born 1788 in Georgia (according to his will Wilkinson County, Ga but I know better now) by 1838 he is living in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. He married Hanna Frederika Hoffmann in 1840 in Louisiana. (Given the age of David at the time of this marriage, I am almost certain he was married before Hanna; he was 52 and Hanna was 19) They had one son: Alexander Henry Johnston b. Nov. 1841 in Plaquemines Parish, LA. David died in July 1852. David was a riverboat pilot when he lived in Louisiana and belonged to the Pilots Benevolent Association, did Georgia have an occupation like this as well since Savannah was/is a main port? Thank you for your time and advice. I'm so sorry that I had to delete the files that I attached to this message If anyone is REALLY interested in those files I will send them to you separately. Linda -------Original Message------- From: Linda Griffin Date: 8/3/2006 7:16:23 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Daniel & Joel JOHNSON Families.pdf Enclosed are two pages of children from the Daniel Johnson & Margaret J. Brannon Families and the Joel Johnson and Elizabeth ? families. Really need help in finding the trail Daniel and Joel's Parents who I do not know took or other families they traveled with to McMinn Co., TN. Think according to census reports that this family was there about 20 years. These two men were boys when they came to live in McMinn Co., TN. Have found and older Joel in McMinn Co., on a census who could be their father but no proof. Then a older Daniel who could have been their grandfather..plus the census shows older women living with these two older men..which could mean that it could be their mother and grandmothers. So I really need some help here. Have the lineage of one of Daniel's grown son's Joel Erie Johnson who married a Isabelle Caroline Triplett in McMinn Co., TN and about in 1840 they moved to Bradley Co., TN and they had their family there. His brother Joel and his wife Elizabeth ? Had their family in McMinn Co., TN and later moved to Bradley Co also with his wife and children. There were land grants that opened up is the reason they moved to Bradley Co. The only one to move was one of Daniel's sons named Joel Erie and his wife Isabelle Caroline Triplett back to McMinn Co. To help one of their sons my great grandfather to raise his four sons all under the age of eight years old..The six year old was my grandfather. Their mother died from complications of childbirth. Joel and Isabelle are buried at Carlock Cemetery. One other thing that is interesting is that four of the brother from Joel and Daniel's families married ladies with the last name of Varnell. Their parents names were Isaac Varnell & Prudence Pinar. Isaac born ABT. 1820 & Prudence born ABT. 1816. Co Now Daniel & Margaret's children started being born 11/25/ 1841 with James H. Johnson through the youngest Elizabeth in 1856. Joel and Elizabeth's children started being born with Albert Larkin Johnson on 1/23/1836. You will see the other birth dates when you open this. Thank you so very much, Linda (Johnson)Griffin

Thanks so much for listing that site..... It does interest me....... The William G. Johnson in the second row is my great great grandfather and the Jr. in the first row is the brother of my great grandfather, Robert Pemble Johnson... They went to Texas from Amite County Mississippi in the 1850's (after 1855 - because that was the last child born in Mississippi). That cemetery is on private property off of Hwy 190 between Livingston, Tx and Woodville, TX near Camp Ruby. Kathe Hyslop

Hello AT and other cousins, Let me put in my 2 cents. A lot of times marriages took place at the county of the bride. Wanda YEP, <DUH>, it IS the law in Va. that the Marriage License be issued in the County where the Bride Lives. DUH, Again: I personally had this experience in 1952 when I Married My First Wife the Second time, <WELL I Doubt if any one would be able to understand that <ONE> Course I ALSO, wonder Just how Many of those that Cannot understand that, Have ever had a 6 1/2 Year old son look them in the face & tell their Mother That I do not know this Man. But I am sure this law is POST Circuit Rider Days. So it is very possible for some Marriage's to have been recorded in the Next County. SO it would not to check some of the Counties Adjoining the County where Aunt Jane or Grt Grand MA. was raised, JUST THINK abt this: Appomattox County, Va was formed from Campbell, Charolette, Buckingham & Prince Edward Counties. Records were Destroyed by Fire in 1895, Buckingham County Records were Destroyed By fire in 1869. NOW HERE IS A COUNTY That could affect MANY of us, Because, PLEASE follow Along: New Kent County, formed 1654 from York County <Original Shire> Records Burned 1865 During Civil WAR, ON TO Hanover 1721 formed from New Kent County. Records Destroyed in 1865. ON TO- Louisa County 1742 Formed from Hanover County, ON TO Albemarle County 1744 <PART OF IT> Formed from Louisa County, onto Amherst County 1761 formed from Albemarle County onto Nelson County Va. 1808 formed from Amherst County, So COUSINS JUST maybe the Circuit Rider did make it to an adjoining County, & leave The Marriage INFO that we haven't found. NOW this may look like going all around the Mountain to get to the Source, BUT, we will take a bit more of the area, Henrico 1634 Original SHIRE, <County on to Goochland County 1728 Formed from Henrico County. All records were Destroyed by Fire June 1820, Other Records were Destroyed in 1865 During the Civil WAR, 1744 Albemarle County Formed With part OF Goochland County ON To Buckingham County 1761 formed from Albemarle County All Records destroyed in 1869. AND, Fluvana 1777 formed from Albemarle County. NOW; This may Seem far fetched in relation to our Genealogy BUT this is the route that many of <MY Ancestors> Travailed on their Journey to the Creation OF <CUZ A T> The Paces& Johnson's Moved from Middlesex Co. to Hanover & followed the Same Rout that Brought the Campbell's, Powell's, AND so many more of OUR wonderful Ancestors to the Beautiful BLUE RIDGE Mountains, Then onward Scattering Through the Land & Over SEAS < CUZ LILLY> NOW this Geography Lesson is from; RETRACING OUR FAMILY LEGACY. EVOLUTION of VIRGINIA COUNTIES <THE FORMATION OF VIRGINIA COUNTIES> SURELY SOMETHING TO PONDER- THEN TAKE A GOOD LOOK- Because this is THE path of many of our Ancestors. JUST Think: First U. S. Census 1790 Enumerated By the U. S. Marshall's They recorded only 4 Million People. Then; Birth Certificates, in Va in 1920_______?? OH YES. Then: The First SOC-#,S in 1935 UH-HUH, Now does any one care to ignore Looking for WHERE THE Circuit Rider <MAY> have Registered that Marriage, that He performed in New Kent Or Hanover_____?? Y-DNA testing also showed that two of several lines of my surnamed ancestors were not related. One branch is known to be from Yorkshire, Eng. The other branch from Germany. We suspected they were related way, way back, probably before the Palatines migrated from Germany. Nope. No relationship. This snippet from another List shows DNA testing helped show a separate line. Jo Anne "From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Subject: [MDFR] THE WEST VIRGINIA KESSLER/KESLER FAMILIES Date: Tuesday, August 01, 2006 7:24 AM There was some belief that family #1 & #2 were related, but recent DNA testing for genealogical purposes has ruled that out, even though they lived in the same geographical area of WV. What some may be overlooking is that, on the frontier, it was not uncommon for a couple to have an informal wedding before family and friends and then formalize it when a circuit rider came through. The circuit rider then filed the formal wedding at the next courthouse that he came to, which may have been in another county altogether. This explains some of the variants in marriage dates and places. Jim Crownover- CA When Searching we now know that the Marriage Record could be in an ajoining County, YA,LL May Have, BUT I had never thought ABT That. CUZ A T < [email protected]>
