Hi I would love to know who isin the book. What would you have to have for the book.
Lois, in my opinion it took me a long time to come up with the Johnson Families of Bradley Co and McMinn Co. And only because my father was born in McMinn Co and I knew a lot of people and just got lucky on the Bradley Co. Johnson's. We are not done and I don't know if you ever get done in this Genealogy because new names and families from long ago keep popping up. If you can afford to join Ancestry.Com that is a good source of information for you or a good Genealogist that doesn't charge in your area. Don't know the area you are in Lois. Allison, My g-g-grandfather was Samuel Johnson, born ca 1810 in SC, died in Gadsden Co, FL after 1858. His daughter, Melissa Ann Johnson, born 1852 (?) in Decatur Co, GA, married George Henry Chester in 1868 in Decatur Co, GA, died in Gadsden Co, FL in 1839. Does any of this match what is in the book? Liz Gerlits Palm Bay, FL In a message dated 10/17/06 11:29:14 A.M. Central Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: I was just wondering--I got a book off of ebay that I thought was my Johnsons, but it isn't. Now I am looking for someone that can use it- I don't want to throw it away. It is called Memoirs of the Johnson Family by Ann Paxson. Written in 1885. It talks of a William Johnson in Ireland, a Samuel Johnson, a Ruth Paxson, Eliza Pickering, Matthias Hutchinson, just to name a few. If someone would like it, let me know-I feel like I wasted my money on something someone else could use. ================================================================= Researching: Booth, Chester, Johnson, King, McElvy (and various spellings), Moore, Reeves, Register, Toole & Yon.

Yes there are a lot of names in my family line Jane. This would mean that your GGGG Grandfather Joel would be the father to my Joel born ABT. 1815-18 and his brother Daniel born about 1812-14. Then also if all of this is true then they had more brothers and sisters. We never knew who Joel married. He parents had a daughter named Mary B. 1839, born in McMinn Co.. We have the first Joel with a wife named Elizabeth ?. The children I have listed are Albert Larkin Johnson B. 1836 in McMinn Co., TN..M:Synthia Ann Le Wallen B. 1840..D. 1917. This would be wonderful if Joel and Elizabeth were the parents. Then there was Gracy B. 1841. Then Susanna Johnson, B. 1843 in McMinn Co. Then Elizabeth J. Johnson, B 1847, Bradley Co., TN. Then Timothy Johnson, B. 1850, McMinn Co., TN. Now Joel's Brother came from a Daniel and a Margarett Brannon. They moved to Bradley Co about 1840 where Joel and his family moved over there about 1850. They lived nest door to each other in both counties. There is a man named John Henry Johnson who still lived on the original homestead through 5 generations. He is a double cousin. He Mother came for Larkin in Joel's family and then Joel Erie in Daniel's family. Just found that out this year Joel Erie is my GGgreat grandfather. He and his wife Esabelle Caroline Triplett Johnson were his parents and the only ones to move over to McMinn Co. And their oldest child a son named Thomas Bruner Johnson ..he and his wife Dove Victoria Payne who died with four little boys under the age of eight. So Joel and Belle moved over to McMinn Co. And raised those four boys. Just had a feeling that Joel Sr. And Daniel Sr. Had more children. Daniel who was a brother to Joel Sr...he and his wife had five sons: Margaret Brunner the mother: 1. James E. Johnson, B 1841, Bradley Co., TN.. 2. John V. Johnson B. 1843 in Bradley Co.--Married a Sarah Varnell 3.Joel Erie Johnson B. 1847 in Bradley Co. D.McMinn Co...Mar. Esabell Varnell 4.Hugh Johnson, B. 1847 in Bradley, Co., TN 5.Daniel Johnson, B, 1852 Bradley Co., TN..M: Martha Goins This would be wonderful if they were related and that they had more brothers or sisters --the whole Bradley Co and McMinn Co. Is full of Johnson s. They have a family reunion every August. This John who was a Professor and lives on the original land ...we are trying to find out who were the parents for sure of Joel Sr. He could have be a grandparent and the one of his sons could have been the father. We do know that a lot of the Johnson on this list married a lot of the Varnell sisters. I have Joel Erie Johnson back to my self but as for the rest I know that a lot of the Johnson's are buried at Chilcutt Cemetery in Cleveland. There used to be a church but it burned down but you can see a few of the names on the headstones. So that you so much for writing and I am counting on you to figure this mystery out -------Original Message------- From: Jane McEndree Date: 10/17/2006 2:00:29 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [JOHNSON] Hannah Johnson My GGGG Grandfather, Joel Johnson was born abt. 1790 in North Carolina, I think He was married to someone named Elizabeth at least at the time of his death. I wish I did . I just know of Logan Johnson that's all I have to go on. I cant even locate a last resting place for him , it's like he appeared out of the woodwork nothing before 1850 census in Orleans County ,Ny I believe he married Harriett in 1841. There are 15 different Johnson's living in Orleans County at the time of the 1830 census . but have not been able to connect any of them 100% . I know he was a shoemaker and that they had 7 daughters There names are as follows Susan, Harriett,Jeanette,Amelia,Ellen,Ida,and Carrie. I believe Ida died very young . There is 1 Johnson from Vermont listed in the 1855 census that might be a link ,Asahel Johnson no proof though . Smiths and Johnsons! What a time you must have researching. Your John Johnson in Houston County interests me because my 3rd grandfather Bryant Bailey b. 1806 in Ga., place unknown, was in Houston County, Ga. by 1822 until the early 1840s when he moved to Randolph County, Ga., and on to Winn Parish, La. ca. 1857. Bryant was married to Teresa, Clarissa, or some combination of these two names, Johnston b. 1808 in Ga., place unknown. Living with Bryant and Teresa in the 1850 Randolph and 1860 Winn Parish censuses was Frances Johnston b. 1814 in Ga., place unknown. She has no children listed and I assume she is either the sister of Teresa or a widow married to a Johnston. Bryant's father was Philip Bailey b. 1760-1769, place unknown, who is first found 1818 in Twiggs County, Ga., but I know he was in NC ca. 1793 because his daughter Louisa was born there at that time. Do you connect to Teresa and/or Frances? My Johnsons went from NC to SC to Ga I always believed they were from Surry [long story] but I found a John Johnson in Lexinton co SC that I`m sure is mine then the next I find him is in Bibb then Houston Co Ga. where he lived till he died in his middle ninties, I think he was born about 1799 give or take a year or two. What were your Watkins migration route {counties} thank you Sandra Most of my Watkins folks migrated from NC to SC, then to GA. Some of them could end up in IL.
