    1. Re: [JOHNSON] MEDLIN DUNHAM (1801-1865) & ELIZABETH JOHNSON (1808-@1877)
    2. Hi Joyce, Yes, you are correct. Medlin Johnson Dunham's first wife, Nancy Louisa Jane Johnson died in the Spring of 1835. In the Fall of 1835 Medlin married Elizabeth Johnson. That info from Rev. John J. Watts Records. I have never done anything in Roane Co. TN except beat my head against the wall trying to find an Elizabeth Johnson. I have just never had any positive responses from any posts that I have made there. Rev. Watts doesn't really give Elizabeth's maiden name as Johnson. He just says Elizabeth and Nancy are relatives. However, the happy news is the MO Death Cert. Project. One of Medlin and Elizabeth's daughters, Martha Jane Dunham, married one Hamilton Ledbetter. Martha Jane Dunham Ledbetter died in 1913, and, low and behold, there is a DC for her. Her Mother is stated as Elizabeth Johnson. I had always felt that Elizabeth was a Johnson (I think Elizabeth and Nancy were cousins) but I had no proof until that DC. Remember, I don't get the census records prior to 1860. So, anything you can come up with on census, Gedcoms, etc. would be great. I do think we are getting closer. My Johnson DNA bunch seems like a real working group. So, I am excited about that. Anyway, keep in touch. Judy ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

Notes These Hawkins are coming off Tuckahoe Creek 1765 June 6, Similar conditions prevailed in Granville County. George Sims of Nutbush, Granville County, on , issued his famous "Nutbush Address," in which he set forth in graphic language, "the most notorious and intolerable abuses" which had crept into the public service in that county. It was not, he said, the "form of government, nor yet the body of our laws, that we are quarreling with, but with the malpractices of the Officers of our County Courts, and the abuses which we suffer by those empowered to manage our public affairs." Extortionate fees and oppressive methods of collecting fees and taxes formed the burden of his complaint. He called upon the people to meet for a discussion of reform, but the only result of his appeal was a petition to the assembly for redress of grievances which was stillborn.
