On these early records, the church warden recorded all these, so the handwriting is his...same with old land records, the court clerk was writing a copy into the court books, a copy of the original which I guess folks kept in those days...so the signature you see is just a copy of those that attended the wedding and not really their signatures, but in the hand of the church warden...probably the same with the certificate i.e. this is just the church record and the couple probably kept the original... I think that my Thomas Jobe (b 1710-1720) might have signed as a Witness for a couple of the weddings...the 11 Jan 1731 wedding of Joshua Job and Margaret McKay and the 6 Mar 1732 wedding of Enoch Job and Abigail Gatchell. Both signatures appear to be written by the same person and it was before his own 1740 wedding to Mary ??
