Mainly for newcomers but always good to repeat occasionally: Thought I would give a word of explanation and some reminders. I've had a couple ask me why some files on World Connect can be downloaded as gedcoms (either fully or partially) and others (such as mind - Jobe Legacy and Jobe Branches) cannot. When a researcher uploads a file to World Connect, they can choose several options. My option is to allow NO downloading of any part of the gedcom DIRECTLY into a file. My reasons: I find too many mistakes are made this way - many, many duplications! Though I accept gedcoms and always give credit for them in the notes, I NEVER merge a gedcom with my own files. I always enter the information individually though it can take a while to type, copy and paste, etc. For example 1) John Job, 2) John Jobe, 3) Jonathan Job, 4) Jonathan Jobe, 5) Jonathan 'John' Jobe 6) Jonathan Allan Jobe and his wife 1) Elizabeth Frances Odle, 2) Elizabeth O'Dell, 3) Elizabeth Odell, 4) Betty Frances O'Dell, 5) Betsey Odle, 6) Elizabeth 'Betty' Odell and so on WOULD CREATE 6 different entries for John and 6 different entries for his wife - and ALL ARE indeed only one person. Other options (especially for those who can't stay on internet for long times with many windows open) 1) Experiment with the Descendancy | Register | Pedigree | Ahnentafel | files that you can create at the bottom of every family group sheet on World Connect. After making a report - copy and paste into word pad and work off-line. (I usually allow 3 generations on these reports which on some of the lines can keep you busy for quite a while) >G< 2) Do the same thing with lengthy notes. 3) Write me personally and ask me to send you rich text a 2-3 generation (depending upon length) of a particular report. You might even get some of the 9th generation that isn't posted at the moment. >G< I am very happy to do this - no problem! Reminders: 1) Please do give my sources CREDIT as listed in the notes on each family!!! Most, like myself, just want to be able to be found and contacted should NEW or additional information is found!!! 2) Please remember my name is not listed as a source on the family group sheets and MUST BE ADDED SEPERATELY - as I do not list myself as a source on my own pages. Most of the time, I find everyone's name but mind own listed and I'm sure this was not done intentionally! >G< 3) If you find your family on Jobe Legacy or Jobe Branches - PLEASE check the researcher's page for these two families and WRITE personally the researchers connected with these lines. If your name is not listed on the researcher's page and you found your family - please write me personally so I can get you added! REMEMBER those on my researcher's page and stay in regular contact with me - usually receive the information on their main lines BEFORE the update is even added! Plus they are carboned and in on the new information from the start. SHARING is what makes genealogy FUN! (Don't find your family here - Check the other 3 Researcher's pages - there are 5 different ones) 4) Find a mistake, know of a correction, can add something - please e-mail me with the information. (If two souses differ - I will make a note saying so, correct or add alternate dates). 5) Find your family on a state page (census, cemetery, etc) and want your name and e-mail address added to this area - write me personally and I'll happy get you added!! 6) STATE PAGES - include all spelling variations (AS FOUND) -including Jobes, and Jobs, and Joab, Jobb, Joeb, etc) JOBE or JOB Mainly for my own convenience and to locate people very very quickly - on the family group sheets - I use ONLY THE JOBE spelling! This way I only have to search ONE INDEX and FTM, the program I use, lets me know if I'm entering someone that I already have listed or that might be the same person!! HOWEVER, please note that ALL notes, ALL CENSUS records, ALL STATE pages, etc - USE the spelling as FOUND! Plus most of us know that BEFORE 1800-1840 - we will find very few who used the Jobe spelling - though TODAY it is the most common especially for Andrew Job, Sr.'s descendants. BEEN EXPERIMENTING! As most have noticed the last 3-4 updates for Jobe Legacy and Jobe Branches has had families added which have had MAJOR UPDATES since the last update. I know they are broad - but does alert any who descend from these lines or researching or interesting in these lines - that MANY changes have been made on these families. I really haven't gotten any feedback on this so not sure how this has been working. Know I still miss some - but always trying to make things better and easier. When you add 200 Plus individuals every 7-12 days, it is hard to keep track of everything! Plus researcher's pages have updated betides names added within the last month of date on top and new besides those within the last 5-6 weeks. These researcher's pages are good CLUES as to where new information has been added!!! Hope this answers a few questions that I have received! Remember if you comment on any of this - please delete this letter as is a bit long - or at least unnecessary parts. Thank you all and hope everyone is having a Merry Christmas!!! P.S. - Don't forget while you're visiting those older cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc - take a tape recorder or notepad along!!
