One clue might be --spiritual adultery. If you read the entire commandment you will see that they are saying that Jesus is the Bridegroom and each Christian is the bride. Partaking of many things, such as lust or other beliefs might be taken as unfaithful to the marriage to Christ and would be spiritual adultery and defile the marriage bed! They also refer to God and Jesus as HIM. I can't explain it all, but I think this is what they are accusing the couple of. Maybe I am way off, but think about it and read the entire commandment.
