The Hutchinson News Sun 02 July 1961 Pg 3 Col 1 Cecil Vernon McAtee Cecil Vernon McAtee, 63 native of Langdon, died in Seattle Saturday. He had lived in Seattle about 12 years. He was born March 7, 1899. Survivors are his mother, Mrs Lenora McAtee; brothers, Earl, Laverne, Okla., and Victor, Langdon; and two sisters, Mrs Ralph Truitt, Hutchinson, and Mrs Baker McDill, Sterling; a daughter Jean Debarr, Garden City, and three grandchildren. L. McAtee Sylvia- Funeral for Mrs. L. L. McAtee, who died at her home Sunday afternoon, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Sylvia Methodist church with Rev. George Leager officiating. Burial will be in Langdon cemetery. The Sylvia Sun Thur 18 Sep 1947 Pg 1 Col 6 Mrs Ida D. McAtee Ida D. McAtee, daughter of William and Imus Popejoy was born in Wyconda, Mo., July 9, 1872, and departed this life from her home in Sylvia, Kansas, September 14, 1947. The family moved to Kansas when she was a young girl, settling in the Langdon community. Here she met and Married L. L. McAtee, December 13, 1899, making their home there untill moving to Sylvia, which has been their home. To this union was born four sons and four daughters. She was a devoted mother and when the youngest son, Doyle, gave his life in the service of his country, it was a great sorrow to her. Yet she bore it bravely, having faith to believe that God takes care of His own. Mrs. McAtee was a long time member of the Langdon Methodist Church retaining her membership there until her passing. After moving to this community she attended church whenever possible. She was an interested member of the Victory Mother's Club, although not being able to attend many meetings. She bore her ilness with patience, never complaining, thoughtful and concerned of her loved ones and cheerful to the last. Mrs. McAtee is survived by her husband, L.L.McAtee of the home, three sons, Lawrence of Wichita, Charles of Long Beach, California, and William of Zenith. Four daughters, Mrs. Agnes Gadberry of Turon, Mrs.Clara Shipler and Mrs. Velma Shipltr [sp?] of Sylvia, Mrs. Vera McKnown of Tampa , Fla., Nine grandchildren and one great grand child. Also three brothers, Willian and Arthur Popejoy of Langdon, Jim Popejoy of Wyconda, Mo., one sister Mrs. Fred McAtee of Langdon and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from the Sylvia Methodist Church Wednesday at 2:00 p. m., in charge of pastor, Rev. George Laeger. Music was furnished by Mr. Rosco Waldorf, Mr. John Shepherd, Mrs Fred McElhinney and Mrs. H.A.Lewis, accompanied by Mrs. Waldorf. The pallbearers were nephews; Lester Popejoy, Cecil McAtee, Perry McAtee, Cleo McAtee, Victor McAtee and Si Bureh. Interment was in the Langdon Cemetery.
