    1. [JOB] Letters We Like
    2. Freida Wells
    3. I have written to a descendant of Jonathan M Logue s/o William Logue and Hannah JOB, that Ann found on the GenForum regarding the family. This is part of her letter I received back. Image how much fun it was for me to tell her about her JOB family, it was my turn to WOW someone like Ann and Randy did me 4 years ago!!! I can't wait to hear back from her and also her reaction to the Job Family Albums!!! Freida Greetings, Freida: I was so pleased to receive your letter. I am always delighted to make the acquaintance of another "cousin." :-) F.Y.I., I have attached (below) cemetery record "date-of-death" data for my ggg grandfather, Jonathan M. Logue. Jonathan is buried in rural Cass County, Iowa -- just a "stone's throw" from where I spent my early childhood years, in Cumberland, Iowa. You wrote: ..."Please see my gedcom on rootsweb. If you have any questions please contact me. If you can fill in any blanks I would be grateful..." http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=fwells&id=I0253 My response to your GedCom is: AWESOME! Since receiving your letter, I have been able to spend some time weaving back & forth through the wonderful data that you & others have researched, and compiled. THANK YOU, Freida, for the "mountains" of hard work that you (and, other cousins) have accomplished -- and, generously made accessible to "novice" genealogy researchers, like myself. I am very grateful. And, I am so ver-r-r-r-ry appreciative ( ! ) that you have been able to include a few of the "odds & ends" of "Jonathan Logue" family data (re: "Cass County History," etc.) that I posted on GenForum and Rootsweb pertaining to Jonathan's line, and his descendants. Again, I THANK YOU... Please know that it feels *absolutely wonderful* to FINALLY have my Logues "connected" (via your online gedcom) to other branches in our family tree. For quite some time, it had appeared that my ggg grandfather, Jonathan M. Logue, had somehow "fallen-through-the-genealogy-cracks" when he and other family members migrated from Mason County, ILLINOIS -- to Cass County, IOWA. Indeed, I have recently read that number of Logue researchers had speculated that perhaps Jonathan "died young" -- while in actuality he lived until nearly ninety years old, and has many, many descendants (of which I am only one!). In essence, it appeared that for Jonathan and his clan, moving to southern Iowa was like falling off the earth. I had tried to trace the earlier migration path (i.e., prior to their relocation from Mason County, Illinois to southern Iowa) of my Logues for several years. However, it was only four months ago that I was FINALLY able to connect my Logue clan -- to other family members of the same familial line who were in Springfield, Cass County, Illinois -- and, ultimately to Jonathan's parents: William Marrs Logue and Hannah Jobe / Job. Until the recent discovery of William and Hannah -- I hadn't even KNOWN my ggg grandmother's surname! Eureka! Her name was: "Job," and/or "Jobe"! Can you tell me, what is the origin of this wonderfully unusual name? And, how is it PRONOUNCED?? AS IN: "My life's work is advocacy. It is not a job; it is my 'calling'." Or, AS IN: "Have you read the Book of JOB in the Bible?..." So, our ggg grandparents were siblings?! WOW. I reflect upon the close relationship that I've known with my own beloved siblings, and wistfully wonder about the lives, and family relationships -- of our *shared* ancestors.... What were their joys; their sorrows? We share their DNA. In what small ways are we like them? I would dearly love to learn more about my Job / Jobe ancestry. I have found that there is often a definite "sense of identity" that runs through the generations in some families. Do you know what I mean? For example, my Cass County, Iowa Logues were known as 'PEOPLE OF INTEGRITY'. [i.e., My Porters were -- and remain ( ! ), a wonderfully diverse "melting pot" of spirited rabble-rousers; and, solemn churchmice! My Hopkins family tree is rife with zealots: social activists; abolitionists & do-gooders. Etc., etc.]. Have you been able to discern any sense of "who" our Job / Job ancestors were, and/or what the fabric of their lives consisted of? As you can tell, I love the study of genealogy. I would be profoundly grateful for any snippets of information that you could possibly share about our ancestry -- be they Job / Jobe kin; Logues, or other connecting familial lines... You asked what, if any, information I had discovered regarding the exact location of William Logue's birthplace. Unfortunately -- I know very little about the "genesis" of my Logue clan, or even where William was born. I had come to the "tentative" conclusion that William Logue *may* have been born in VIRGINIA based upon the "1880 Federal Census data for Cass County, IOWA," (also attached below), which lists the birthplace of Jonathan Logue's father as VIRGINIA. Even still, I speak with caution -- as I do not know Virginia to be a "documented fact." Have you discovered more that confirms Virginia to be his birthplace? Beyond the county boundary lines of Cass Co., IOWA (where "Logue" is still a very familiar name in area communities; and, where distant Logue cousins who resemble my grandmother, Goldie Logue, still attend our annual Porter family reunion), I have so little information about the actual "lives" of my Logue ANCESTORS. Indeed -- I had no idea that William Marrs Logue was a preacher! Do you know which denomination? (My grandmother, Goldie LOGUE Porter was a person of deep faith; so, I am not surprised to learn that her ancestors were also believers). In searching misc. Illinois records online, I discovered than an Ethel Logue (I believe she may have been the daughter of Oliver Logue & Rebecca Cole), attended a Baptist Church in Mason County. None of her other family members seem to be listed as actual members, though. If you are interested in this information, I will send it to you separately. Do you know when the Logue clan migrated to America? And, if they came from Ireland or Scotland? Do you have clues as to the genesis of our Jobe / Job roots? From where did these ancestors migrate?? I apologize for all my questions. However, I am eager to learn more about my Jobe / Job and Logue ancestry; and, so glad that you took the time to write... If you are close to the Twin Cities area of Minnesota -- I would love to invite you to share a pot of my (very strong!) coffee -- and, a bushel of "genealogy talk"! :-) I look forward to hearing from you... Take care, and May God bless you and those you love... Cathy PORTER-Maynard [email protected] --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Protect your identity with Yahoo! Mail AddressGuard
