    1. [JOB] John Job - 1860's Eastern Canada (Montreal area)
    2. Ann (Jobe) Brown
    3. Chris, I'm changing your subject line - maybe we'll get someone's attention. On the original letter, I do believe I did put the wrong one as forgot those little dashes. With this new system both are suppose to work for a while. Since you didn't have the D you must be on the letter. Main thing is that you managed to subscribed. This one does work though (I just tried it) JOBE-D-request@rootsweb.com or JOBE-L-request@rootsweb.com JOB-D-request@rootsweb.com or JOB-L-request@rootsweb.com I believe that we do have a few Job in Eastern Canada. Actually Randy knows more about this group than I do. You know for 1858, Canadian records would probably be in England or France. If I'm not mistaken, Canada wasn't even a country until 1867 and in the beginning there was Upper and Lower Canada. I took a quick look at the 1881 Canadian Census that appears on the LDS site that could possibly be your John and came up with these. Guess you don't know when your John died or whether it was in Canada or if he came to the states. John Jobb - Cartwright, Durham West, Ontario (b. 1820 Ireland) John Jobb - Turnberry, Huron North, Ontario (b. 1836 John Job - Cape North, Victoria, Nova Scotia (b. 1844 Nova Scotia) *Have to wonder if your John could be part of the ones that Warren are looking for. 3. Chris, to sign up for the list - you still need the "L" or the "D" at request@rootsweb.com - otherwise we wouldn't know if you wanted regular or digest. However, to POST to any list that has migrated to the mailman system, which includes the Job and the Jobe list - - then NO L. Just use the listname@rootsweb.com By the way, Chris, what is your lineage? Yours is a name that I don't recognize. 3. I went to sign up on the Jobe-L list by just clicking on the address you posted for it and the request bounced. So I tried it without the 'L' and it went thru and I got the 'welcome' message. That's why I sent my message about the "L". All I have on my Job line, documented, is the St Paul, MN death certificate of my gr-grandmother, Mary Ann Job Williams. It said she was born in"East Canada" on the 22nd Sept 1860 and her father's name was John Job, her mother's name was unknown. I was TOLD by my grandmother that Mary Ann married James Williams in Montreal. Their first daughter, Jessie, was born in 1878 and they moved to St Paul around 1880. All their other daughters were born there. James went up to the Yukon for a while and came back and worked on the Great Northern Railroad. I've had people search Montreal records to no avail. I DO have James' death certificate as well. His also says he was born in "East Canada", 1858, and his father's name was also John, and his mother's name was unknown. His info was provided by Mary Ann herself. Mary Ann's info was provided by Florence, my grandmother, b. 1891. It's been a brick wall for me...especially since I live on the west coast! But I don't even know where to look. The only hint of area has been that James had a brother Frank who died young and there is a Frank Williams interred at the Niagra Cemetery around the time he would have been 20 yrs old. There's several John Job's listed in Canadian censuses as boarders...but no links to Mary Ann or her sisters Sara(h) and Elizabeth. My grandmother could only remember that one of her grandmothers was a "Scottish farm girl". chris lubinski on beautiful Whidbey Island, WA cairn@whidbey.com www.whoamulefarm.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ann (Jobe) Brown" <ann@personainternet.com> > By the way, Chris, what is your lineage? 1. [JOB] Postings - Both of our lists
    2. Ann (Jobe) Brown
    3. I am copying both the JOB and the JOBE lists: As most of you know, we have two active lists and two active boards on rootsweb for our surname and there is no way that they cannot keep from overlapping. We both have very healthy memberships. 1/3 of the Job list and 1/4 of the Jobe list are the same subscribers. But that still leaves over 70 subscribers (our cousins) who are on only one of the lists below. I'm (sure Randy will also) going to encourage everyone who is posting a genealogy letter concerning the Job or Jobe family to post to both lists. Freida and I will do likewise with any of the gedcom or album updates, etc that we do. Sure some of us will receive duplicate messages - but we have to try and reach those 'lurkers', our Job(e) cousins, and encourage them to post and get involved also.. Our Goal - to motivate the ones who are on only one list to post and get involved with the lists, boards and website. We are NOT in any competition. We are both great friends and are on both lists and work very closely together. I no longer have any technical problems in receiving mail from the Jobe list like I did in the past. As of yesterday, both lists are on mailman and on the very same server. Now if you (those on both lists) do find that you are getting too much mail, you could change one of your letter subscriptions over to a digest subscription. With the new system on mailman, which came into effect yesterday, these come in plain text with no attachments - usually once a day, if there were postings the day before, and personally I found them to be quite nice. Now for those who are on the Jobe list and not on the Job list and you click on reply all , the letter will go to the Pending mail file - but I do monitor these on a regular basis and, if the letter concerns Job-Jobe genealogy, I will forward the letter on to the Job list. I'm sure Randy will do the same with the Jobe list. JOB List - which I, Ann (Jobe) Brown, manage JOB@rootsweb.com - to post JOB-L-request@rootsweb.com - subscribe in letter mode JOB-D-request@rootsweb.com - subscribe in digest mode JOBE List - which Randy Jobe manages JOBE@rootsweb.com - to post JOBE-Lrequest@rootsweb.com -subscribe in letter mode JOBE-Lrequest@rootsweb.com -subscribe in digest mode JOB and JOBE boards - both of which I manage http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/board/rw/surnames.Jobe - Jobe board http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/board/rw/surnames.Job - Job board *We are looking into getting the gateway open between the Jobe board and the Jobe list. For now, I'm not going to open the Job one, but I do monitor it and if something is posted on it that I believe should be on the list, I will see that it also gets to the lists. There is no way to get the Jobe board postings to go to the Job list, but again I also monitor it. The boards are in the process of having several changes made to them and as I know more information - I'll let you know. There is one very extensive website, which we have all worked on (and can be very proud of) and that is growing very rapidly. The site is for ALL of our surname variations and therefore covers BOTH lists. On the site, I am webmaster, Freida is in charge of ALL the albums and the Joshua Jobe section of the site. As most know Randy and I both descend from Caleb. Everyone contributes to the site. We all call up on each other for answers and help. If anyone would like to get more involved with the website - then write me at ann@personainternet.com Job, Jobe, Jobs, Jobes - Links to Great Information http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ajobebrown/jobe.html *Just for any who are wondering, it was already suggested to Rootsweb that both the Job and Jobe list be combined, but that was refused. Also Job board posts have to go to the Job board and Jobe posts have to go to the Jobe board. That is their policy. Ann (Jobe) Brown ( Ontario, Canada) <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ajobebrown/index.html>

    2. Ann (Jobe) Brown
    3. When replying to a message on the list, try and remember to remove the original tag lines as a new one is going to appear automatically. If we don't watch it, we could have a whole string of them on one letter and basically I have no control over these - especially the last one. Thanks, Ann

    1. [JOB] Digest and Tag line
    2. Ann (Jobe) Brown
    3. Well I just received the 1st digest, at another address that I have, and personally I like it much better this way with NO attachments and all in plain text with a summary at the top. See that the tag line came through fine on the last test letter. If anyone is on letter mode and they would just like to see what a digest looks like (with the new format) - write me personally and I'll forward you the one that I just received. Ann

    3. Thanks Patti, Will do. Was actually thinking about it before, then figured the list saw our addresses enough. But someone could find a particuliar message through the archives or a search engine and have no idea how to contact us. *Actually that statement is the 'new footer' that will appear on ALL messages. As I can now only have one, this is what I've chosen. It no longer rotates. *There is also a header which will appear on the new digest messages - but since it only concerns the digests, and is self explantory (to the digest subscribers), I will not go into detail about it. Also the one saying how to unsubscribe is a new automatic one that is also posted by the mailman system to all letters. Ann
