    3. Happy New Year to all! I want to wish everyone out there a most joyous New Year and hope this coming year is the best every! My greatest find in 2003 was to finally find the family information for my 2nd great grandfather Edward J. Jobe's sister Margaret Watts Jobe. For many years we wondered who this was that was listed in the Probate Record of Abraham s/o James M. Jobe and Margaret Stone. Well this year it came to life and now I have a full family sheet for the family. Recently I received as you now the obit for her husband Jacob Maugans and am tryng to find the complete death date so I can obtain hers. This year has been one of the best for me in ALL families I am working on, found many new cousins, made a trip to Iowa on my husband's LANE family, he got to meet a new cousin I have corresponded with for well over two years and we spent four days working at courthouses, city halls and cemeteries. This is has been a GREAT year for me genealogy wise. For those of you who have located information on any of the JOB/ JOBE lines I work on especailly the JOB/ LOGUE I truely thank you for your help and sharing. I look forward to new finds in genealogy and friends in the coming year. God Bless All of You! 3. Nope, every place I ordered it from cancelled the order! Just going to have to keep an eye out for it on eBay or something. I'm going to put in an interlibrary loan request, too, and see if I can get it that way. Patti Hi Cousins, Did any of you ever locate a copy of the book, "From Artic Snow to Normandy" by Patrick Dalzell-Job? I was assured by Walmart.com that my order would arrive no later than Dec. 26th. only to find out yesterday, after I contacted their electronic customer service, that the order had been cancelled. UGH! Any ideas? Would really like to locate a copy to purchase. 1. [JOB] Margaret Watts Jobe / Jacob F. Maugans
    2. Freida Wells
    3. Happy New Year! For those of you who are following the family of James M. Jobe and Margaret Stone, s/o Enoch Job and Lucretia, today in the mail I received the obituary of the son-in-law of James and Margaret, Jacob F. Maugans. I had written to Logan Co OH to see if I could secure obits for he and Margaret, but only was able to obtain the one for Jacob. According to the death record in Logan Co he died in 1901, NOT 1900 as it is given on the cemetery stone. It also states that they were married October 20, 1860 and located to OH in 1861. I had that they married Jan. 24, 1860, but upon calling to Jefferson City, MO. to try and secure a marriage record and was told none was returned for the Jan 24, date, I have decided to use the date given in the obituary. Jacob and his family are listed living next door to the James M. Jobe family in Jefferson City MO in 1860, his family came from Logan Co OH. I am not sure what they were doing in MO, but seems they all returned in 1861. This would have been the beginning of the Civil War so that may have had something to do with it. Please find listed below the death record and obit for Jacob. To read more about this family, please see my detailed gedcoom on World Connect Descendants of Joshua Job 1705-1782 and Margaret McKay http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=fwells Freida Wells [email protected] 3rd gr granddaughter of James M. and Margaret (Stone) Jobe -------------------- 1888-1909 Record of Death, Probates Court Logan Co Ohio - Book # 2, Pg. 208 Name : Maugans, F J. Sex: M Date: 1901, May 16 Age: 59, Place: Bellfontaine Occupation: Carpenter Cause of Death: Diabetes ---------- 1901, May 24 - The Weekly Examiner Logan Co., Ohio Death of Jacob Maugans At His Home Thursday Night of Diabetes. He was An Honored Resident of This City For Forty Years. After long illness of diabetes Jacob F. Maugans died at the family home on east Sandusky ave Thursday night, May 16, at 10 o'clock. Deceased was born in Delware, O., April 11, 1841, and October 20, 1860, he was united in marriage with Miss Margaret W. Jobe, of Jefferson City, Missouri. To this union four children were born, of whom but one, Charles, survives to weep with her who is left along and sadly grief stricken by this dispensatioin of Providence. Jacob Maugans located in Bellefontaine in 1861. He was a carpenter by trade and while he began life with little capital other than his two hands and indomitable energy and ambition, he accumlated large means and was well off in this world's goods, and many are the homes and business blocks in Bellefontaine built by Mr. Maugans. He was thorough and conscientious in all his undertakings and a man of high principles and honor. He was a stockholder in the Bellefontaine Nationa Bank and his business interests were many. The First Baptist church, of which the deceased was a member, many years, was largerly supported by him. He was a Chairman of the Board of Finance and at his death a Senior Subdeacon and served as a Trustee for many years. He was also choir master and leading spirit in the singing, and faithful and constant in his efforts to build up and do good in every way possible for his fellowmen. Mr Maugans was a member of the Odd Fellow lodge, and this order as well as his church and the community has sustained a great loss in his death. A man of unflinching fidelity to right his been called to his reward. His life work was well done. -------------- The funeral of Jacob Maugans was held at the family home Sunday afternoon, Rev. C. R. Sargent and the Odd Fellows conduction it. Many paid the last tribute of respect to the departed, and the pastor's tribute found response in many hearts. 1. [JOB] Christmas, Greetings, Traditions, Our Heritage and Job(e) Lineage
    2. Ann (Jobe) Brown
    3. Greetings and Holiday Wishes! First of all would like to take a moment to wish all my Job(e) cousins a Merry Christmas! Know we've all been busy with the 'hustle and bustle' of the season, but let's take a moment and remember what Christmas is all about. Each of us have that special Christmas 'long ago' or the one that our parents or grandparents told us about. And Christmas is about family, loving, caring and sharing! And for some, with extended families and great distance involved and many deployed overseas in the military, loved ones are not always near by and it can be a lonely time. Let's remember those less fortunate and reach out to 'someone'. Our church put on a Christmas Cantata called 'The Christmas Shoes' and it really showed what 'giving to someone else' - the real joy that it can bring. For the next few days, please take a moment to tell us about a Christmas tradition that you might have today which has been passed down (especially one that preserves the family history/legends, etc), a Christmas you remember as a child, one that your grandparents told you about (especially if a Jobe descendant), or a special gift that you remember giving or receiving. As most of you know I grew up in Texas and have now lived in Ontario, Canada for the past 31 years. Christmas is very different from what I remember as a child. For one thing, we actually have a white Christmas here. You really don't plan travelling long distances, as you could be stranded in a blizzard. Here we have 'Boxing Day' and before I came to Canada, I had never heard of it. And here in Sudbury, the stores are closed on December 26th. Also, here one will see Christmas lights appearing the day after Halloween. Our Thanksgiving is in early October. In fact, many leave their lights up all year long. One doesn't go stringing lights in December as could be way below zero and a foot and a half of snow. We usually get together with my daughter and grandsons the Sunday before Christmas (which was yesterday). They always go to his parents for 3-4 days during Christmas. So far, we've been lucky to have my son, who is in the military, home for the holidays. But many families with sons, husbands, etc in the military, don't have this blessing. In fact 2000 from the base where my son is stationed, are now in Afghanistan on a peacekeeping mission with the United Nations. Last night we watched on TV a show that was filmed over in Kabul. To see the families sending greetings and the soldier's faces, many who were speechless and who my son knew, was really something. As we also know, there are still many serving in the Persian Gulf and over in Iraq and elsewhere from the states. Let's remember these young men and women and 'their loneliness', and their families back 'home'. And as you can guess having him home 'safe' had to be my greatest Christmas gift. He also brought his uniform home and went and had pictures made and these will soon appear on my personal page. And this year, seeing the grandsons (age 15 months and almost 4) opening their gifts is really something. Remember to treasure the children. We all need to remember to be 'childlike'. Even though they both had colds, it didn't take away from their enjoyment. Even though things are so different today and new memories are being created, I still treasure the Christmas past when every Christmas eve we would go to my Granny's house and eat the greatest pie and cake that I've ever tasted. Then every Christmas day we would go to Weatherford to visit Grandma Jobe. Today you can make that trip from where we lived in Fort Worth/Grand Prairie in about 1/2-1 hour, but at that time, (late 1950's-early 1960's), it took closer to 2 hours each way. There we always had peach cobbler from the home-grown peaches. Don't ever remember seeing any snow - though (for some reason, I really don't know why - considering where I live now) - we always had on big winter coats. Quite often some of Daddy's brothers and their families would pop in inexpertly and to see Grandma Jobe's fact (she was around 90 at this time) was really something. She never cared if they brought her any presents - just seeing them was radiance enough! This Christmas Day, we're going to do something different. My husband, son, and I are picking up my husband's father and his wife and we're all going out for supper. We finally got a restaurant in town that is open on Christmas Day. As some of you know, my father-in-law has been quite sick and in and out the hospital recently. A couple of times, they had tried to visit other relatives and got a few miles and had to turn around and come back due to Winter storms. Plus now, he is driving only very short distances. And the biggest thing is - well others, like my daughter, has other family commitments for Christmas Day. Bless you ALL and take it slow on those highways! Enjoy the children and those that you're blessed to be with. Keep those afar and our military in your prayers! God bless! P.S. - When sending your letter of Christmas traditions, past Christmas (yours, parents, grandparents), greetings, please delete my letter or the previous ones. Also would be nice, if you list how you're connected to the Job(e) family - so we can get to know anyone who might be new or who also descends from our group Ann (Jobe) Brown -d/o Earl F. 3. We have a new photo album for the descendants of William Shepherd Jobe and Malinda Iowa Bunch who married November 25, 1868 Ottumwa, Wapelo County, Iowa. He was s/o John Henderson Jobe, Sr. and Helen Marie Stanton and gs/o William Jobe and Zilphia Norris and gt gs/o Caleb Job(e) and Sally Pryor and gt gt gs/o Samuel Job and Dorcas MacKay/McKay. http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4288342819 http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ajobebrown/jobe/album/pic_shep_bunch.html How we got these pictures are quite a story in themselves. Marilyn, who descends from a different Jobe family, had seen our Job(e) web and wrote me about her line. Then she just happened to mention that a few years back she had bought these pictures at an antique store and wondered if I knew who they were. The names were on the back of the pictures. Well sure enough I recognized and immediately had written Freida about them as she had done so much research on this group and they were from her home county in Kansas. One picture also had several others in this county who we are trying to identify. Well she arranged to buy them and now they are in the society there for all to see. *Don't forget that you can click on the pictures to enlarge. If you happen to recognize any of the people in the Sunday school class - please let me know. Thanks! #1 William Shepherd Jobe Family, 1908.Taken in Sedan Chautauqua Co KS. by Avery. There is an interesting story behind this photo, it was found in an antique store in Springfield, MO by Marilyn Siebert. She wrote to Ann Brown who in turn sent the letter to Freida Wells who contacted Marilyn. Freida purchased this one and one like it and another photo you will see next to go back to Sedan, Chautauqua Co., KS to the Historical and Genealogy Society library. It is nice to have people like Marilyn who rescues photos from places like this. It is not known how it ended up there. She gave $5 for all three because the owner of the shop thought she would never find anyone related to them! Submitted by Freida Wells #2 Methodist Episcopal Church, Sunday School Class, Peru, Ks.
