    3. But Sherman passed it forward. In 2000 after my husband Thomas Caruthers Jobe died Sherman sent me an email about the family. I thanked him kindly and forgot it until Tom's niece was so very interested. Sherman and Ann were so kind and I learned so much and now i have papers stacked up on all the research on different lines from my mother's mother and father. Don't know whether to thank them or cuss them! Actually, it is to thank them. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, May 30, 2004 5:36 PM Subject: [JOB] Sherman Jobe lineage > My connection is the North Carolina Jobe path. 1. Sherman Jobe lineage
    2. My connection is the North Carolina Jobe path. Our genealogy "holy grail" is to find documented evidence for our connection to Andrew Job, Sr. or to whomever the real link connects. My lineage below: ???? 1) John Job(e), Sr. (~1750--1814 to 1829+) married Elizabeth Ruggle (~1745--????) 2) Samuel Caruthers Job(e), Sr. (~1777--1859) married Rebecca Price (1796--1858) 3) John Harvey Jobe, Sr. (1826--1896/03) married Nancy P. I thank each of you for that and especially I thank Ann for what she has done. A short (I hope) story: Thirty-three (33) years ago I received a letter from Katherine Reynolds in Houston, Texas asking for information on my Jobe family. At that time in my life I had no interest in genealogy and did not respond. After my mother died in 1986 I became interested in collecting information for my son (for years later when he would have an interest). To my surprise, I enjoyed the research and the information I was able to collect. After some period of time I was not making much progress. One night I decided to search the Internet for the name Jobe and select 5 names at random to send a "blind" request for information. One of those five names turned out to be Ann and she responded!! Can you imagine how I felt when I learned that as a teenager she had worked with Katherine Reynolds in Texas on Jobe research? And that she had tons of information and was willing to share. Information to which I had not contributed when asked in 1971. And I had connected with Ann in Canada. An amazingly small world!! Sherman

    3. Greetings Marion, With the information you have allready is a good place to start from, question, do you have a LDS (Latter Days Saint) church, with a family history section attached near where you live...??... if you do, that is good.... the gals there should be like ours here in Australia, pretty helpfull and resourceful in assisting newcomers...(they do not try to impress their religion onto you).. ...at their family history section, they would have a good collection on microfilm and fiches, DBMs, on USA, CANADA, UK and Europe, and maybe Australia( sometimes we hear that folks stateside have problems in finding where we live and the language we speak...etc...) You would be able to hire in for at least one month, the Parish register (for District of Neath in the County of Glamorgan and Brecon, Wales) on microfilm... now this comes in good news and bad news... bad news first, (1) if there is no parish registers, it only means that the LDS church was not given permission to photocopy the registers (2), if they photocopies the actual registers, it will be in the actural handwriting of the clerk and signees, ( if so, be prepared for heaps of XX's, as signatures) and plenty of eye strain. Good news, if someone have already transscribed into written text and photocopied, great and pleasing to the eye.. Once you have the parish register, them you would be able to go backwards in tracking down your lost relies, and maybe make a connection in with Andrew JOBE ??? way back in 1650s... ..approx. speaking you would have about 5 generations on your tree, by going back through the parish registers (depending on their early records ) back to 1400's in some areas, depending upon the local church and mility at that time frame in history when they had civil wars, strick govt rule and taxes, and finaly neglect by the clergy. 2) Check out www.familysearch.org and you may be able to pick the family up in one of the UK census at occured 1861, 1871, 1881 or 1891 ( note that the UK cenusus is one year behind USA etc.) also note that there are some other onsite cenus sites.... thats for later checking to see if they have moved address, occupation, and household members... If they came to the States, towards the later half of the 1800, you would be able to check out Ellis Island site, and see the ships manisfist of whom came to USA and other important questions that is require for them to fill out. Well kido, thats about all i can think of that may be of use to you, good luck in with your research, and if you happen to find a Reginal / Rignold JOBE born c 1640ish and disappeared, please let me know, other wise i have put him down to be a alian who just happened to appeared in Gwennap Cornwall on his wedding day in 1672. regards Warren Job Australia -------------------------------------------------- ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, May 29, 2004 12:36 PM Subject: Re: [JOB] JOB (to Marion) Hi Anne, Thank you for your reply. 2. Ann (Jobe) Brown
    3. Some of you may want to try this 'new search engine' for World Connect. It was listed on the World Connect Suggestion site and still in being tested. This tool searches for databases that contain the listed surnames. http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ss Try just Jobe and you'll get 2636 different databases. They automatically (for now) list the data base in order of the # of entries appearing for the surname. Of course - Legacy and Branches are the top two. Try Job and you'll get 1535 different databases. Ann (Jobe) Brown

    1. Re: [JOB] My possible-Andrew Job<grin> Lineage
    2. Lorelei Whitfill
    3. Here's the info I've dug up so far. I haven't found that many Job(e)'s in the 1700s & very early 1800s in Philadelphia. I just can't help feel they're connected somehow. Could just be wishful thinking though. the oldest Aaron (born circa 1790) is listed in a later census as being born in Philadelphia. The earliest census he shows up in is the 1820, in Pennsylvania Township, Philadelphia, PA. I'm pretty sure of this connection, I just don't have the documention yet. I recently (finally!) uncovered the next Aaron's birthdate so I will be seeing what kind of birth certificate I can get through the mail from Philadelphia. John Job shows up in the 1810 census, but in Pennsylvania Township with 2 males listed, one 16-25 and the other 45+. So far this is the only reference I've found to John. Aaron, being born circa 1790, fits into the 16-25 category and seeing how he is listed in Penn Township in the 26-under 45 category in next census, makes me think that John is a good possiblity for Aaron's father. Now, I have found numerous mentions of a Joseph Job(e) in Philadelphia. It appears there are at least 2 different Josephs, one who is an adult in the early 1760s and one born circa 1760. I just don't know who they are or where they fit. Wouldn't it be something to find out that they're father and son with the younger Joseph being the above John's father? <grin> That's my theory - now all I have to do is prove, or disprove, it. LOL 1791 - Philadelphia Directory Job, Joseph stocking weaver 2 Cannon's Alley 1790 census Job, Joseph (in Northern Liberties Township) - 1 free white male 16 & up, 3 white females Military records from PA state archives 1780-1781 - Job, Joseph - listed on unit muster roll as Pvt., 3rd Company Capt. John Kling in Phila, record says inactive and does not prove active duty 1779 - Jobe, Joseph - record of payroll - rank: Pvt.; unit: 5th BN., Phila.; class: 1st; time of service: called 18 Aug 1779; 3rd Company - Capt. Anthony Leghner; duty: served his tour. record states that it proves active duty 1777-1779 - Jobes, Joseph - unit muster for the period; Pvt.; 3rd Company - Capt. Anthony Seghner in Phila.; record says inactive and does not prove active duty 1777 - Jobes, Joseph - payroll record - ; unit: 5th BN., Phila.; class: 1st; time of service: called July 1777; 3rd Company - Capt. Anthony Leghner; duty: served his tour. record states that it proves active duty 1772 - Joseph Job apprenticed to Jacob Long for 8 yrs., 11 mon., 4 days - Jan 11, 1772 1763 - Joseph Job, witness to will of William Vanleer on Dec 6, 1763, Northern Liberties, Phil. Co., PA 1763 - building of church named St George - a new church in Philadelphia was begun and the congregation prepared for the erection of a large church building but they got heavily into debt. A lot was purchased on Fourth Street below Story (now New Street) [Lorelei's note: this was written in 1884, I'm not sure how it corrolates with modern Philadelphia] Joseph Job appears in a list of men who apparently made themselves personally responsible for the debt of the land purchase. The quote is "The ground had been taken up in 1763 by.....list of names, last name is Joseph Job...upon ground-rent of Dr. Shippen." Several of the members were jailed for the debt and in 1769 petitioned the legislature to pass an act to allow them to sell off the church and pay their debts. The act was passed in Feb 1769 and the church was sold in 1770. (History of Philadelphia 1609-1884, Vol. 1 by J. Thomas Scarf & Thompson Weston; published in 1884) BTW, it was also mentioned that Benjamin Franklin was slightly involved in helping to collect funds, something about sending a letter to someone in Boston. That's as far back as I've found any mention. Of course, I'm still searching so who knows what will turn up. I'd like to see if I can find anything else about the St George church story just because now I'm curious to know whether Joseph Job was one of those that was arrested for the debt. I also need to get some better maps for old Philadelphia so I can try to plot out where in Philly these Job(e)s were located and what location had name changes over the years. Oh, and Ann, I have much of this info either as images on my computer or hard copies I printed. I'd be happy to send copies to you if you want them. 3. Hi Marion and welcome to the Job list. You sent your message the 'right way' but there was a problem with the server Yesterday morning. I know of at least 2 others that didn't get through then.. Are we talking about Wales? I need you to send me the information that would appear on a family group sheet for David Job so I can get your information added to this page http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ajobebrown/jobe/notandrew.html *Warren, would you know of anything that might be able to help Marion. 1. Re: [JOB] My non-Andrew Job(e) Lineage (to Lorelei)
    2. Ann (Jobe) Brown
    3. Lorelei, Actually you're listed in the Leaves section (not Andrew) http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ajobebrown/jobe/notandrew.html and also in The Twigs Section (miscellaneous who may be Andrew) researchers: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ajobebrown/jobe/homepages_twigs.html Now I'm trying to decide whether you should actually just be in the Twigs, miscellaneous section for possible descendants of Andrew Job SENIOR. If so, then I really should get at least some of your line added to the Twigs I file at http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ajobebrown1 Lorelei, who is this John and/or Joseph that you believe could possibly be Aaron's father? Were John and/or Aaron born in the states/colonies?
