    1. [JIGGINS] Last chance if you want this mailing list to continue at another site
    2. Wendy Howard
    3. The Rootsweb mailing lists will cease to function in about a week's time. If this is news to you, please read the older emails I've copied below. I've not had feedback from this list that anyone wants it to continue. You've had time to think about it now - would you like to see it continue elsewhere? Reply and let me know if you do, and I will set up a new group at groups.io - I've already done this for the groups that have responded positively. Wendy Howard List Owner/Admin ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Wendy Howard <wendy.howard@gmail.com> Date: Sun, Jan 12, 2020 at 2:04 PM Subject: The future/fate of RootsWeb Mailing Lists You are receiving this email because you are subscribed to a Rootsweb mailing list that I administer. As you can see below, the mailing lists at Rootsweb are going to cease functioning soon. If you would like to continue being a member of some sort of group on the topic of this list, please post back to the list where you're seeing this and say so. This list is extremely quiet and rarely sees any activity. Is there any point in continuing? Have you found a better place to exchange information that you can recommend to the other members of this list? - post and tell us about it if you have. If you feel there is still a need for something, no other suggestions are put forward, and you are prepared to participate as a member, I'm willing to make an effort to create a new forum in a suitable place. I'm not going to do all the work and have not activity from its members, so do think about it before replying. Suitable places include Google Groups (which act like mailing lists and message boards combined, and you don't have to have a Google account to be there, but it helps), and Facebook. If you have another suggestion, please let me know. Please take care to ensure any replies are sent to the mailing list, not to me personally, unless there is an administrative issue you wish to raise with me. It would be nice if the list went out with a flurry of activity as we all share our latest discoveries before it is turned off. Wendy ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: RootsWeb Administration <rwmailinglists@ancestry.com> Date: Wed, Jan 8, 2020 at 6:36 AM Subject: [ROOT-LO-ANNOUN] RootsWeb Mailing Lists To: <rootsweb-listowners-announcements@rootsweb.com> Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team

    3. Hi everyone, The Rootsweb mailing lists have come back, so please feel free to post your on-topic queries once again. You are now able to manage your own settings for mailing lists - please see the link under the March 6 2018 update at http://rootsweb.com/ to set up your new Mailman login. I am then stuck and can't get any further back. I know only that Thomas' parents were Samuel and Sarah Jiggins and that Thomas had 9 children. I would be grateful if you have any more information. You mention "Essex", but where?....England, MA., Ontario, Canada, etc. Can you go back even one more generation of Jiggens with dates? Jiggens is not a common name as I am sure you are finding out. The line I research is one that started in England with Matthew Jiggens coming to Quebec, Canada, then a son of his moved westward to southwestern Ontario and finally to Detroit....this all in one generation. The progenitor in the USA was Henry Jiggens and a large number of his descendants are in the mid USA today. Author: wendyh651 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.jiggins/25.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Teresa, Have you obtained birth, death and marriage records for your father and grandfather? They should help answer the questions you have and tell you more about your ancestors. Assuming everything has happened in England, go to http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ and check the indexes there. It isn't complete yet, but it is free, so if you find your people there that is a bonus. Other sites, where you will find complete indexes but it will cost you a little to view them, are http://www.findmypast.com/ and http://www.ancestry.com/ Once you've found the index information, you can go to the General Records Office (http://www.gro.gov.uk/) and order the certificate. There may be other ways of finding the information without having to pay for the certificate, but I'm not familiar with them, sorry. Try your local family history society, or the society for the county where your family was based if that is different. Hope this helps you along your way. :-) Kind Regards, Wendy Howard Kaiwaka, New Zealand Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
