John Jennings was born in Old Rappahannock County (late= r to be named Richmond Co.) in 1633. He married Margaret Payne, daughter= of John Payne and Margaret Robbinson, and had six children. John died a= bout 1670 and Margaret remarried to Christopher Edrington. My direct Jen= nings line remained in Virginia until after the Revolutionary War then se= ttled in Kentucky. I have not traced any Jennings to the Carolinas but th= at doesn't mean they didn't settle there. Your William Augustine Jenning= s may be descended from siblings of my direct line to either John & Marga= ret or William and Mary. Below is a listing of my Jennings line as far ba= ck as I have been able to verify (my direct ancestors are in bold print).= If you find a connection, I would be happy to know. Jennings Sr. should not be confused = with the Wm. Jennings Sr. of Nottaway Co., who married Mary Jane Pulliam = although they may very well be cousins. Children of Wm. Mary Jennings b. abt 1700 Richmond Co., Va Augustine Jennings married Hannah Williams in 1737 and moved his famil= y to Prince William County, Va. He helped survey the new Fauquier Co. li= ne when the new county was formed from Pr. Wm. Co. He had a large planta= tion in an area known as Elk's Marsh Run. His will lists hundreds of acre= s and numerous slaves among his bequests. Four of his sons (William, Augu= stine Jr., Barryman, and Baylor) served in the Virginia Militia during th= e Revolutionary war under Colonel Elias Edmonds's Regiment.
