Waylon JENNINGS and my father, Billy Earle "Bill" MYRICK, who started his country music career with BILL MONROE AND THE BLUEGRASS BOYS have been friends since Waylon was with BUDDY HOLLY AND THE CRICKETS. Daddy was friends with Waylon and Buddy as well as Tommy ALSUP and Sonny CURTIS from the group. Waylon, Daddy and Tommy all, at one point, lived in Odessa and Waylon and Daddy were D. J.'s together at K.O.Y.L. Radio in Odessa. Sonny CURTIS was related to the MAYFIELD BROTHERS that were in a group with Daddy, BILL MYRICK AND THE MAYFIELD BROTHERS. Daddy and Waylon talked about their common JENNINGS ancestry and I believe had established some connection but I don't know what that was and Daddy, whose mind is sharper at 73 than most people at 23, doesn't remember what the connection was. The earliest documentation I >have been able to find: Widen is on the first tax record of Tuscarawas >County in Ohio. Here's a thought. Just because Gideon is an unusual enough name, I checked to see how many I had in my JENNINGS folder. I'm mentioning these 'Yankees' because CT/MA to NY to Ohio was a very common migration pattern. [and I can call them Yankees because I am one.<g>] From looking at 100 or so RevWar pension files, VA to OH is not so common. [the VA'ans that I've seen ended up in NC, PA, KY & TN] I hesitate to mention this one, but I will since I just read in one of the pension files that a JENNINGS soldier was registered as JENNE. There was a Gideon JENNE in Saratoga Co, NY in 1790. From the 1800 Census Index from NY; Gideon JENNINGS, Orange County, NY p441 02010-02 [those numbers are the cut off data from the census; 2 males 10-15, 1 male 26-44 2 females 10-15 [and who knows how many more females] Then between 1816-1822 a Gideon Jennings left a will in Saratoga County NY. Another Gideon is from the RevWar pension files on NARA Films M804-1412 & 1413. I browsed through all the JENNINGS/JINNINGS, JENNE & every variation I could imagine. [though I haven't hit the GENNINGS, GINNINGS, etc yet]. I took pretty good notes on all with a NY or CT mention & looked through all the files and noted where the pensioners were filing from. Here's the only Gideon I saw; Pensioner Peter JENNINGS, CT W24746 62 pps BLW t 30766-160-55 [frame #0534] [ancestry- Joshua & Esther Burr/Joshua/Joshua/ - see catchall] Wife; Sarah WAKEMAN Applied 1832 Peter Jennings, 23 July 1832 was 68 yo; resident of Fairfield, CT. In 1780 as a resident of Fairfield he served as a substitute for Aaron Jennings for 2 months under Capt. Thomas Nash in the State troops and was stationed at Cyprus Farms [widows application] Married Sarah WAKEMAN [of Westport, CT in 1843] July 1, 1792 by Rev. [Hezekiah?] Ripley 'pastor of the [?Consociated?] church in Greenfarms [then a part of Fairfield- in 1843 part of Westport] Declaration by the Widow of a Deceased Person Who has not had a Land Warrant; June 16, 1855 [ae81] Served in Coast Guard of Fairfield Peter Died May 5, 1841 p6 [0540] [April 21, 1843 declaration of Gideon M. Jennings p1 of 1] Gideon M. JENNINGS ae42; neighbor of Peter Jennings & with him when he died; knows the widow & she has not remarried; Gideon states that he is "but distantly related to Peter Jennings"; signed Gideon M. Jennings; witnessed by Thomas Robinson, Justice of the Peace, Westport] [this is probably Gideon Morehouse Jennings, son of Jesse/David/Joshua/Joshua/Joshua/Joshua b.1620] > >We all know he did not "fly" there. He purchased his land with cash. Oral >history and Beers History of Miami County has him coming from Rockingham >County, VA. Have you checked to see if one of the other Rockingham Counties was around either when he moved or when the book was written? There are Rockingham Co's in NC & NH. Just thought I'd throw out some thoughts. Jim [researching the JENNINGS who passed through Saratoga Co, NY in the late 1700 & early 1800s from Fairfield, CT]

    2. Hello to all: I have been searching for the parents of Gideon Jennings (1767 - 1843) -- supposedly Benjamin Jennings and Rebecca ??. The earliest documentation I have been able to find: Widen is on the first tax record of Tuscarawas County in Ohio. We all know he did not "fly" there. He purchased his land with cash. Oral history and Beers History of Miami County has him coming from Rockingham County, VA. The Capt. Gideon Jennings of Orangeburg, SC. was the Revolutionary soldier. There is much documentation of his family. My fourth great grandfather named his children with similar names to those of John Jennings of VA. This mystery has been my huge brick wall. Perhaps someone on this list can solve it. Thank you. Anne (annetp@aol.com)
