    1. [JENNINGS-L] Joshua Jennings & Stringfellow
    2. Hi everyone-- I am hoping that someone can help me identify some members of the JENNINGS family. I am researching my husband's line which descends from George STRINGFELLOW b: September 17, 1772 Culpeper Co., VA (probably). He m. Mildred Ann JENNINGS (b. 1776) on January 18, 1795 in Fauquier Co., VA . About 1807 they moved to Kentucky. I have tried to identify Mildred's parents. Recently someone sent me a notice of a chancery suit filed in Culpeper County in 1802. In it Mildred and sisters Eliza (wife of Uriah GRUBBS) and Frances (wife of William CHILDS) are noted as children of Joshua JENNINGS, deceased. They & their husbands are suing William Jennings, Joseph Jennings, Reuben, Dolly, Thornton, Hiram Hayes, Hespa and ... Jennings, and Frances Jennings, widow of Joshua Jennings. (Issue 14 Sept 1802, Virginia Herald.) If you recognize any of these names, can you tell me the maiden name of Frances Jennings, the widow? Also, were the other defendants siblings of Mildred, Eliza and Frances? Thanks, Sue Streett

    3. Re the request for Jennings Outlaw Stories. Somewhere in my files-safely hiding from publication--is a story of Al Jennings the Outlaw. I wonder if anyone else has heard of Al Jennings, bank robber--in the early 1900's as I remember. I'll find that story yet.. Walter

    3. You are absolutely correct. My ggggrandfather was Isaac Lynn served as scout for Sul Ross and Curreton in the late 1860s Ranger Expedition to capture Cynthia Ann Parker who was the white captive mother of the infamous Commanche Chief Quanna Parker. There are many Ranger records at UT Austin. Regards, Barb Visit my website at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hollow/9401/ ----- Original Message ----- From: Walter A. 2. Patrick Payne
    3. Hello everyone, I have been putting a lot of new PAYNE research on-line and have made some new finds which might be of interest to some on the list. I am hoping that someone may recognize some of the connections and fill in some of the JENNINGS blanks I have. Particularly regarding John PAYNE of Rappahannock County, VA. who died in 1690. He is thought to have married Margaret JENNINGS. I believe she was either a sister or daughter of John JENNINGS, but I have no details and I am relying solely on the research of others for that information. It is possible that John also married Margaret ROBINSON. Whether he married twice or we just have our Margaret's confused is the question. William ROBINSON left records calling John PAYNE his kinsmen and I have to admit, I have not seen any specific record naming Margaret JENNINGS as John's wife. There were many inter-colony connections between these families and many have been established- ALLERTON, APPLETON, TAYLOR, HOPKINS, SNOW, MARTIN, BENNETT, WALKER, CLARKE, CRADDOCK, COLE, COOPER, COLE, COMBES, WINSLOW, CALVERT, BRENT, FLEETE, STONE, WEST, MORGAN, GOOKINS, to name a few. If anyone has an interest in any of these names or in 17th century colonial merchants, please have a look at http://www.payn.org/george-payne.shtml For a list of sources used, see http://www.payn.org/notes.shtml These pages are part of my larger web site devoted to these merchant families, located at http://papayne.rootsweb.com Hope to hear from you, Patrick Payne http://www.payn.org

    2. Have you had the opportunity in your research of the Payne/Jennings connection seen the book, "Documented Notes on JENNINGS and Allied Families" by Beatrice Mackey Doughtie? It was published in 1961. Library of CongressCatalog card #61-17787. It is found in many genealogy libaries. There is info on the Paynes and Jennings you are inquiring about in the book - how inclusive it may be I would not attempt to answer at this time but I do feel you will a possible answer to your querie. I do not have a connection to the John Jennings you mention to my knowledge - just wanted to attempt to be of help. Regards, Tyre Jennings Houston, TX

    2. I have been researching my roots for about 10 years. My great great great grandfather was named Benjamin Jennings Fields. Ran into a dead in and thought I might try to Jennings connection in case it was a family name that became a given name. This family was in Ohio around the 1840's having moved there from the PA/NNJ area where the name Benge came up. Any help would be very much appreciated. 3. I am sorry that I have no info on your mother, but keep trying because it is never to late to know about our past and those people that make us what we are. Since I have been searching my family history, I have felt a real closeness to people I have never met, some that have been dead for over three hundred years. What I have learned has changed my life and made me aware of the impact I could have on my descendents. I wish you much luck in your search. 3. If your Asa Jennings was a scout for a Ranger Battalion, there is a good chance he might be in one of the early Texas Census. What time period are you talking about? Have you checked the Texas census index for 1850-60-70-which is the period Texas Rangers functioned in mounted battalions with Scouts?

I don't know there marriage date since I have been unable to find the details to obtain a marriage certificate. Samuel and Margaret's first child John was born on 11th February 1855 at 11 Brown Street, Blackburn, Lancashire. They also had two other children called Thomas and Alfred who were born in Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham. John married Mary Jones on 17th April 1881 in the Parish Church, Stockton-on-Tees. John's occupation was an engine fitter / joiner and his worked in a shipyard on the River Tees for a company called Messers. Ropner & Sons. He died whilst building a ship called the Gladstone on 13th September 1909. Please contact me if we match. Julie Mason Stockton-on-Tees
