To DALE as well as the person on VAROOTS who published the original warning ... You DO have another recourse. Some credit card companies are helpful, others just ignore such a request for cooperation and go on charging interest on the disputed charge. I went in person to the nearest office of my state attorney general. It took nearly two years for them to gain full cooperation of the offending company, but in the end I received all the disputed charges, interest, late charges, and the company even sent me a very expensive freebie. Your phone book should have an 800 number for your state's attorney general. Call and find out where is their nearest office. Make a copy of all pertinent records, then go in person if at all possible. One of the reasons I had success is that I was working with a student from the law school who worked part time for the AG's office. They like successful endings so that can go on their resumes, helps them get a job. VIRGINIA P.S., thanks to the list Mom or Dad for your indulgence.

Where was Obadiah Jennings, the surveyor, before 1796.? In 1796, he signed as bondsman on a marriage license in Grainger Co. Tenn. Obadiah remained in Grainger until about 1806 when he moved with his wife, Elizabeth to Warren Co., where he remained until his death in 1829. This Obadiah, the surveyor is not the same as The Rev. Obadiah Jennings of Nashville, Tn. Obadiah, the surveyor, may have been a brother or cousin to Royal and Heziakiah Jennings also in Grainger Co. Any clue as to Obadiahs parents will be deeply appreciated. Thanks, Walter

I've learned a good bit from you! Do you have any idea when Benjamin was born? I have only a Mary Jennings (1742-1823) who was supposedly from Somerset County, Turkeyfoot Twp. She married Samuel Ruble in 1772 and they lived on what later became the VA-PA border and now their land is on the WV-PA border. As a result of some searching, I had begun to suspect that Mary might be a daughter of Benjamin Jennings. I found Benjamin on a 1786 list of Taxables for Monongalia County, WV. On early tax lists in Fayette County there are the following Jennins/Jenings/Jennings: Henry, German Twp. 1795, 1796, 1798 Henry, Georges 1788 Henry, Springhill 1787, 1789 Jacob, German 1796, 1798 Jacob, Redstone 1799 David, Menallen 1786, 1788 Jonathan, Menallen 1786-1788, 1785 Jonathan, Luzerne 1795 Jonathan German 1795 Springhill Twp. covers the area where my Mary Jennings and her husband lived on the border of VA. once the dispute between the two states was settled! I live now (in recent, early retirement) in Georges Twp. not far from the mts, and can see an area there called Jennings Ridge where there is a Jennings Cem. There was an early Derry family here in Fayette County. In these same tax record lists, I see a Jacob Derry in German Twp. 1785 and 1786. Later they were in Georges Twp. Sorry but I don't know of any early marriage records except for a few at Jacobs Lutheran Church in German Twp. No Jennings there. Have you tried Somerset County? Do stay in touch. Very best regards, Jane [email protected] wrote: > > Hello, > > You list Jennings as one of your surnames in Fayette County. > > My Jennings ancestors supposedly lived in Fayette County c. 1795 - 1804. > I have been searching for a marriage record between Gideon Jennings (1767 - > 1843) and Grace Darrah, Derrah, Derry, Day -- ??, earlier from Rockingham > County, VA. We have corresponded and she has been a great help to me. Later, today, I did find some information, originating from Winston and Ruth Jennings. He is now deceased but we were able to take Ruth to lunch in September and give her some stamps to partially thank her for all the time spent in research. Benjamin Jennings was supposedly born 12/8/1740 in Surrey, England. His widow, Rebecca, married David McIntire. Their daughter, Mary, was born 10/3/1782. She married Aaron Reeves. They travelled to Ohio with Gideon and Grace Jennings. They also had a daughter, Mary, who married a Williams. The repetition of names has made my search quite a challenge. Your information is being printed for further study. Thank you very much. With appreciation, Anne --part1_94.179cc9.25c70661_boundary--

Hi, I saw your message in the Jennings digest. I am searching also for John Jennings or Jennens, however they spelled his name. There are many stories about the Jennings fortune. I have read several but none give me any information on my line. Only that England didn't give anyone in America any money. My John was born 1720-24 in England or America. He married a Sarah Beasley and had 2 sons and daughters. They lived at Montgomery Co., Md. In 1776 this area would have been Frederick Co., MD. I have a lot of information but none before 1776 that I can prove. If I can be of any assistance or if you find any information on MD Jennings let me know. Ruth
Hi all, I'm writing again and hope someone may have a connection to my Jennings who went from MD to Frederick Co., VA,( near WVA). I just saw in my notes some left Md via Fred. Co., VA on to Kenton Co., KY. Also mentions Grant Co. KY. Some of John Jennings decendants through his daughters are buried at Independence Cemetary, Kenton , KY. The daughters of John Jennings married Wilson, Hall. I have some Wilson info. Aquilla Jennings Wilson b. 29 Mar 1785, Montgomery Co., MD Died 12 Jan 1842, married 26 Mar 1814, Frederick Co., VA. Burial Kenton Co, KY. The information for this family mentions Northcutt , Piner, Bagby, Broadus, Rankin, Botts, Bourne. Regards, Ruth Does anyone know what library may be near Kenton Co., Independence, KY?
Hi Val, I will look to see if I have any notes on anything that will help you. My gg grandfather Lloyd Jennings sister was named Ruth Octavia. Octavia may not be connected, but note only name similiar except for John. John Jennings Sr., b. 1724,lived in Rockville, MD area in 1776 and his son John was born in 1769. There are sisters and one other brother named George and I have this line back from the present to 1724. So far I have hit a brick wall because some have said he was born in England. There are many John Jennings and a family in NC. I need to get past this wall. I will write to Dr. Jennings Where is New Kent Co.,VA located? Ruth
I have a deed concerning these people somewhere....for a time my uncle was chasing this family tree... but it wasnt ours. I will attempt to locate it and share information it contains...Linda Jackson....My line is Robert Cross Jennings! not Cary. -----Original Message----- From: Val John Jennings <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Thursday, January 27, 2000 9:35 PM Subject: Re: [JENNINGS-L] Re: JENNINGS-D Digest V00 #15 >I wrote: >. I am looking for an illusive Jennings. My 5thgrandfather, Daniel Meadows, married in either VA or NC, Elizabeth Jennings, b 1729 in Va. Supposedly, from some Meadows literature, she was the widow of Howell Mangrum, and the daughter of William Jennings and Mary Pulliam. However, I have been unable to find anything in Jennings genealogy that would confirm this. According to one of the Jennings sources, Documented Notes on Jennings and Allied Families, William Jennings and Mary Pulliam had a daughter Elizabeth, but not married to either Meadows or Mangrum. Do either of your sources give any clue?? Hi Donna, I think you best hope is by continuing your communication with other researchers. I have also found the NY Public Research Library located in Mid Manhattan a tremendous resource. You may search their catalog on-line. It is called CATNYP. The Genealogical Library is superb. The research library is the 2nd largest in the world only the Mitterand Library in France is bigger. I have also found the National Archives branch in Lower Manhattan tremendous. They have microfilms of most of the important census records as well as many other valuable records, such as ships logs, war records and naturalisation records. I hope that is helpful. best wishes, garius hill [email protected] NYC
