Rochelle White In the Unrecorded Land Claims (housed in the Chancery Clerk's office at Natchez) #322, Abel EASTMAN, claimant, dated 24 Feb 1804, Certificate #B-76 issues 28 Oct 1807, Claiborne County. Able EASTMAN claims 640 acres in said county on Gun's Bayou, a branch of Big Black, by right of occupancy, having inhabited and cultivated said tract on and before the territory was evacuated, etc, and said Abel at that time, 7 Mar 1798, was the head of a family. (Plat shows John GRIFFIN on other side of Gun's Bayou). #372, John CALHOUN, claimant, dated 28 Feb 1804. Witness: Stephen MARBLE 1 Oct 1804. William ATCHINSON & Abel EASTMAN 29 Jan 1806. Certificate #D-276 issues to Moses FLOYD, assignee of claimant, 24 Dec 1806. John CALHOUN claims a donation right or right of occupancy for 320 acres in Claiborne County on the Big Black River which tract of land was improved by said CALHOON by clearing about one-half an acre, planting some peach trees & having commenced building a cabin to dwell in 1797 & he intended to inhabit & cultivate the said tract at & from that time but was interrupted in his claim by the Choctaw Indians who claimed the said land as being within their boundaries but he continued his claim to this land by working on it from time to time & actually moved on it in 1799 & has inhabited & cultivated the same ever since & was the head of a family on the evacuation of the Territory. Transfer of land from John CALHOUN to Moses FLOYD. Indenture 20 Oct 1804. John CALHOUN of Claiborne County, Mississippi Territory, U.S.A. to Moses FLOYD, of same, for $400, to him in hand paid, by said FLOYD, he does sell, etc all that tract of land on the waters of the Big Black River in said county 320 acres claimed by said John CALHOUN, etc & returned to the Register's Office in the Town of Washington. Witnesses:John JENKINS & James GRIFFIN. Proven 9 Nov 1804 by J. GRIFFIN, before T.R. Tract on Big Black River about three-quarters of a mile above the old blockhouse.
