Shirley: bobert@panacom.com >From The Knoxville (Anderson Co., TN) News Sentinel 5 Jan 2001 CATE, LUCY JENKINS HOWSARE - of Clinton, passed away at home on Wed., Jan. 3, 2001. Mrs. Cate was born Jan. 20, 1921, to A. D. and Dona Jenkins in Clinton. For most of her working life she was Executive Secretary of Teamster's Local Union 519. She vigorously supported the role of the union in improving working conditions and wages. After her retirement, she was active in Chapter 519 of Teamster's Retirees and the TN Coalition of Retired Teamsters, serving on the Board of Directors of both organizations. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Clinton, the Timely Topics Club, Garden Group II, and Clinton High School Class of 1940. One of her greatest pleasures throughout her life was supporting her beloved U.T. Volunteer Football and Women's Basketball Teams. She is survived by her husband, Earl Cate; son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Arland K. Howsare, Jr. of Virginia Beach, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Karen) Hamby of Clinton; step daughter, Mrs. Judy Cate Brown of Rex, Georgia; sister, Mrs. Dudley (Katherine) Hoskins of Clinton; brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Jenkins of Monroe, Michigan. Her grandchildren are Mr. and Mrs. Arland K. Howsare, III and Mr. and Mrs. Dave (Arlene) Painter of Virginia Beach, VA. Mr. and Mrs. Perry (Melissa) Dupree of Lake City, Mrs. and Mrs. Jesse (Melanie) Flores of San Antonio, TX. Mrs. Cate's step grandchildren are Mr. and Mrs. Don (Amy) Scott of Clinton, and Mr. and Mrs. Jeff (Lisa) Bullock of Clinton, and Miss Elizabeth Hayes Brown of London, England. She also has five great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Fri., Jan. 5, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel with Dr. Paul Frick and Rev. Terry Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Clinton.
