    3. Forgive me. I know this is not a typical posting for the list, but I received it from a very devoted (3 trips a year to Salt Lake City) geneologist cousin in Oklahoma, and it fit so well, I thought everyone should enjoy it. Jaunice Subject: YOU KNOW YOU ARE A GENEALOGIST WHEN: Your kids think picnics in cemeteries are normal or that EVERYBODY does it. You're the only person in the bridge/poker club who knows what a Soundex is. "It is only a few miles down the road" means at least 50. Some of your best friends live over 200 miles away. You have more pictures of tombstones than of the kids. "I need to spend just a little more time at the courthouse" means forget the cleaning, washing, dinner, chores; the day is shot. The mailman can't believe that you got this much mail from someone you don't even know. You explain to mother why you can't go 25 miles for Sunday dinner, but can go 100 miles to check out another cemetery. "As soon as I check out this census record, I'll fix dinner" means "call the local pizza parlor." Your neighbors think you are crazy, your friends wonder, and YOU know you are. You can't drive past a cemetery without wondering if your ancestors are buried there. You have to watch the credits of a movie to see if any of the surnames are ones you are researching. You ask all the people you meet, what their grandparents surnames are. You move to a new town and the first thing you look for is a historical or genealogical society in the area. You go on vacation and beg your hubby to please drive 80 miles out of the way so that you can try and find your granddaddy's grave in 100 degree heat. Youthful fantasies of traveling to exotic places are replaced with plans to get to those little towns with graveyards, or larger towns with Archives! Your fear of snakes and bugs is overshadowed by the need to get through those brambles to that old gravestone. Old friends who knew you before you were into genealogy begin sending clippings about dead or live people with your surnames (and you know you have been talking about genealogy too much!) You worry about the roof's leaking only if the drips threaten your genealogy section. When you can recite all the counties of a State you've researched but where you've never lived. When you find your ancestor's execution by hanging or burning at the stake, far more interesting than the mass-murder that just took place next door. You're not invited to family functions because your relatives are tired of filling out family group sheets. When you read the New Testament in Sunday School and find yourself comparing the pedigrees in Matthew and Luke. Patricia Owens 1/30/00

    3. Sarah may have been the older sister of my GGgrandmother Nancy Jenkins Marrs who was born in 1797 and died in 1878 in Fayetteville, WVa. I have a picture of her as an old lady. Jane McGeorge is named in the family bible as the mother of Nancy Jenkins. There is certainly a wall surrounding this Jenkins family but I feel sure there is someone out there that has the key to the backdoor. My Ggrandfather John Marrs and Nancy's brother Fountain were life long friends and business partners. James Jenkins, said to be a brother of Nancy Jenkins Marrs, married John's sister Rebecca. They and many other families moved to Michigan in the 1820-1840 period. I believe John Jenkins Jr. who is said to have married a Mary Huddleston moved to Ohio or Indiana and his home was the stopping place for other family members when they moved to the frontier in Michigan. All of John Marrs' brothers moved to Berrien Co. Michigan/ Terra Haute, Ind. The confusion about John Jenkins and his family arise from books written 50-80 years after he died by the child/children of a first daughter. These documents totally ignore what has to be the second family. There is a family story about the Marrs brothers visiting their Jenkins cousins in Ind. and in Mo. Alot of the above is my speculation about bits and pieces of information I have gathered over 20 years. I wonder if there were two John Jenkins. My Great grandfather described the burial place and I have visited it. The local genealogical society has found his grave with marker (1755-1831) Jives with his estate inventory dates and explains the abrupt ending of his pension application for his Revolutionary War service. 3. Hello, fellow Jenkins family researchers! The Jenkins family I am looking for is SOLOMON JENKINS and his son WILLIAM JENKINS. They came over to the U.S. from somewhere in South Wales in about 1869-70 I think. I have found SOLOMON's Naturalization 2nd papers in Mahoning County, Ohio issued in 1874. That's all I know about Solomon. William was born in Wales about 1856. He got married in Braidwood, IL to an Alice Reed in 1880 and applied for homestead land in Louisiana. His land application included SOLOMON's naturalization papers as proof of his naturalization and right to acquire land. WILLIAM and his wife, and a daughter (Nell) arrived in Louisiana in 1884. A son, Henry, was born in 1885 in Louisiana. Does anyone know anything about any of these people? I know that SOLOMON had a large family and perhaps married twice. I've been told that William was one of about 11 children. I don't have the slightest idea what any of their names are. Any help would be appreciated!!! Trudy J.
