Seeking information on gg-grandfather, John (?J) Jenkins, born bet. 1836-1839 SC. His parents and siblings unknown to date. Migrated to Randolph County, Cuthbert, GA. Married Millie ? b. ca. 1849. Children: Alfred 1860, John 1862-63, Perry 1864-1865, and Josephine 1868. Alfred married Rosette Joseph in Shellman, GA. 7 sons (have four names: Charlie, Evans, Walter, Lorenzo) and three daughters, Arbozine, Nanny and Sarah. Alfred's Jenkins line headed for Connecticut in the "Great Migration" years. John, my great-grandfather, married Ellen Rodgers/Rogers who was b. bet. 1864-67 in Worth County, Isabella, Ga. They lived in Randolph County Cuthbert then Shellman. Children: Emma 1884, Pearl, Lizzie, Hattie 1898, Miley, Princella 1906, Daisy Lee 1904-5, Suzie Ellen, Jurushia 1909, John, Jesse and Willie/William. Most of John & Ellen's children left Randolph County at the end of the 1940s to Duval County, Jacksonville, Florida, except Emma, Jesse, John, who moved North to New Jersey. Miley, Lizzie and Suzie remained in Ga., and even Lizzie and Miley eventually moved to Florida. There are still a considerable amount of Jenkins who are still in the Georgia area, who I am sure are related; however, I don't have John Jenkins' siblings, or cousins names to go by thus far. Emma m. Wallace Greene approx. 1904-5. Children: General Ward Greene, Ivery Greene, Hensley, Donald (Quinton LuDonald), John P., (Newman & Mary Alice died as young children) Velvia Lee, Hardy E.W. Greene, Rosella, Wallace, Jr. John married Fanny Robinson a neighbor (Shellman, Ga.) Their children, Mae, Pearl, Mamie, Nancy, Stiley, John, William, Alice, Eddie/Edward, and 1-2 who preceeded their parents in death. Willie married Lonie Bell. Children: Johnnie, Eddie and Emma. Miley married twice, first to James Saffore, who was killed 1928-30. Children: Twins, Daisy Lee and Jamie Lee, Monk. then to James Martin, who was also first husband to Alfred Jenkins daughter, Arbozine. They had children, who were raised by Miley after her cousin's death. All children''s names not remembered. Mary Magdaline "Mag", Ellie Mae, Bonnie D., If any of the above Jenkins sound familiar, please advise, will be happy to exchange further information with you.

Hi, My Jenkins line is pretty thin at this point. It begins with William M. JENKINS, b abt 1830 in TN. I don't know a county or parents or siblings. He married Mary ? presumably in MO abt 1858. They had a son, Manus, b MO in 1859. Then he turns up in Grayson Co, TX in the 1870 census with four more children, Alice, Helen and Mary, and a son, John L., age 3, and a new wife, Nancy whom he married in 1870, according to County records. After that he and the rest of the family, except son John, are lost again. John L., called Lee, moved to Indian Territory, where he married Mary May HAZEL in 1889 in a Chickasaw ceremony. He married her in Gainesville, TX as well later that year. They had five sons, John Leonard, b 1891, Seth Thomas, b 1893, James Claude, b 1895, William Lee, b 1899, and Clarance (called Robert or R.C. later in life), b 1901. John Leonard (called Leonard) had at least one son, Edward E., b 1925. I don't know what happened to him. Seth had a son, Seth, who was my father, b 1914. James Claude (called Claude) had at least one daughter, Anita. I don't know what happened to her. William Lee died at age 17. Clarance died in the 1970s. I don't know if he had children or not. They all lived in the Garvin Co, OK area at one time. Seth and Clarance (R.C.) are buried at Maud, OK. Leonard and Claude and William are buried in Lindsay, OK. If anyone can connect to this very sparse listing, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Regards, Barbara Schenck

-- [ From: Ruth Jenkins * EMC.Ver #2.5.3 ] -- This Roll Call has been GREAT! What about making indexes of the Jenkins we've listed and displaying them on a web page or has something like this already been done? I think that Page Co., VA was done by Ken Grissy . An Index has been made of as many Smiths as could be found by Martha Cieglo. She called it "The 1996 Family Group Sheet Master Index". Maybe something similar could be done for a Jenkins Website. Any suggestions? Ruth Jenkins
JENKINS, Robert served in the war of 1812 and was a miller by trade. Jenkins, Robert b. VA 1788 m. Frances ?(could be WILLIAMS) b. October 1834 d.1887 Henry Jenkins b. 1829 in Floyd Co., KY married Roshanna Blevins There is a Robert Jenkins on the list of taxpayers of Lee County, VA in 1810. His only taxable property is his horse. His age would be about 22, if he is "my" Robert Jenkins. Robert Jenkins was in the war of 1812 an listed in "Soldiers of the War of 1812" in the State of Virginia: Pvt. Robert Jenkins, SC-15374, Assigned to Captin M. Bailey's Company of Virginia Militia. Robert would have been 24 or 25 at this time. The family moved to Floyd Co. KY about 1814/15, because a son, Robert Jenkins, Jr. born in Virginia in 1814/15, according to his age as given in in the 1850 census report, and a daughter, Rachel Jenkins, was born in Kentucky in 1815. Robert would have been 26 or 27 when he brought his family to eastern Kentucky. The early life of Robert Jenkins is largely undocumented, in that no record of his birth, marriage, or death has been found. The name, Robert Jenkins, is mentioned a few times in Virginia records but they can be eliminated for various reasons (wrong age, wife, or children), except the following: This item is found in "Spotsylvania County, Will Book E" page 1636: JOHN JINKINS, SENR. of Spotsylvania County, died March 14, 1797 Executors: son Gipson Jenkins and John Carter Legitimate sons: Gipson, William, Charles, Robert, John Jr. (The daughters, if any, were not listed) Note: Using court and business records as a guide, the sons in order of age are probably: Charles, William, Gipson, John Jr., Robert. Robert Jenkins, born in 1788, would have been 9 years old when his father died. All the sons, except Robert, have established records in business and civic affairs that go back for many years. The apparent difference in age suggests that Roberts Mother is not the mother of the other sons of John Jinkins, Sr. Please keep in mind that this Robert Jenkins could be "my" Robert Jenkins, The above does not prove that he is. The following is the earliest mention of JOHN JINKINS, SR. that has been found in the Virginia county records at this time. *April 5, 1762: William Garrett and Elizabeth, his wife, of Spotsylvania County, to John Jenkins, of Hanover County; 90 pounds sterling currency, 500, acres in Spotsylvania County. *November 3, 1766 James (X) Jones and Mary, his wife, of St. George Parish, Spotsylvania County, to John Jinkins, 5 pounds sterling, a tract of land in St, George Parish. * June 21, 1795: Virginia Land Bounty Warrent issued Pvt. Poor RACHEL JENKINS!! She has no parents or siblings. According to her tombstone in Unitia Cem - Louden CO, TN she was born 13 July 1783, but it is more likely she was born in 1780. She died 5 Dec, 1865. Family lore has been that Rachel's father was Rollen/Rowland Jenkins of Washington CO, TN (the part that later became Carter CO). One researcher has told me he does not think that Rollen was her father from the research he has done. Rowland/Rollen Jenkins wife was Jane Welch. Rachel and her husband, Viney Griffitts of Wythe CO VA, named their 1st dght, Jane. They named a son, Rollen, and had a grandson named Rollen Jenkins Griffitts. Viney's brother-in-law, Joseph Sands, rec'd a land grant that adjoined Roland Jinkins and John Cains in Carter CO, TN dated 6 June 1799. IF Rachel was not the dght of Rowland and Jane Jenkins then WHO WERE HER PARENTS? Any help appreciated including locating the marriage license bond for Rachel and Viney Griffitts. Regards, Bettye
