Hi, My aunt bought a book like you are talking about and it is in my opinion a joke. It is a listing of the surname, with all of the people that have a telephone in the US. Nothing in the books says that you are related to one another. It is like buying a fancy phone directory. You still have to get out there and research the names that you find in the book. Someone else may have a different feeling. Best wishes, Gerrie Jones Dickens

I have read warnings about surname books that are very general and not much help and have received other advertisements previously. The advertisement states that Jenkins from all census records are listed along with other data, etc. The pre-publication price is $34.50, marked down from $44.50. Has anyone bought one of these books in the past? Was it worth the price? Ruth

    1. ROLLEN JENKINS
    2. Bettye Heinrich
    3. Rowland/Roland/Rollen JENKINS is first mentioned in Rowan CO NC in 1778. It is thought he was born abt 1750 place unk. I use the spelling of ROLLEN as that is the way it is in my ancestry. ROLLEN m. JANE WELCH and they had several children: HUGH b 12 March 1769 m. Grace McQueen 27 Feb 1795 Johnson CO TN. WILLIAM b bef 1781 as he witnessed a deed in 1801. He m._ Thompson. JANE b probably in late 1780s as she was a widow when she m. Abel Dugger on 6 April 1809 in Carter CO TN. MARTHA b bef 1788 TN as she m. Thomas Crow in 1804 Carter CO TN. EMANUEL b bef 1793 as he m on # Dec 1811 to Elizabeth Crow in Carter CO TN. NOAH b abt 1799 TN (probably Carter CO). He m. Elizabeth Peters on 18 May 1820 in Carter CO TN. I believe that Rollen had other children as there is a 30 yr span (not uncommon in those days) btw his oldest known child, Hugh, and the last known child, Noah. The man who provided me with most of the data on Rollen Jenkins thinks his ancestor, MARY JENKINS, b 1775 VA, was a dght of Rollen's. She m. Joseph Tompkins. He bases his belief on the naming of her children and his family lore. I believe my RACHEL JENKINS was also a dght of Rollen and Jane Welch Jenkins. She was bc 1780....her tombstone reads '13 July 1783' and census records put it at 1780. It came down orally through the family that her father was Rollen Jenkins, and the name was carried down to her son and her grandson. She m. Viney Griffitts of Wythe CO VA abt 1799 but no license has been found. I use the same basis as the man above used for his Mary --naming and family lore yet he told me he is sure Rachel is not part of the family has he had not heard of her before contact with me. If you have any data on Rollen Jenkins, his wife Jane Welch, or Rachel Jenkins I would appreciate your contacting me. I also have a listing for a Rollen Jenkins in Culpeper CO VA who m.1 Nancy Robbins on 1 Feb 1810 and m2 Mildred Jenkins ? 15 Aug 1815 His father was supposedly William Jenkins and his mother was Rachel Brandon. I have no idea where this data came from....something I have had for abt 30 yrs and failed to cite my source. I think this may have been the Rollen Jenkins in Rappahannock CO VA in 1825 Regards, Bettye Rachel Jenkins and Viney Griffitts first child was a dght which they named Virginia JANE Griffitts.

    1. Rowland/Rollen/Roland JENKINS
    2. Bettye Heinrich
    3. Abt a month ago someone asked me to tell them abt Rowland/Rollen Jenkin's land in Rowan CO NC. I apologize for having lost the person's name and for the length of time it has taken me to do it. Because my line used the spelling 'ROLLEN' that is how I will type it. Rollen Jenkins had 200 acres of land in Rowan Co NC by 1778 on Abbott's Creek in Capt D. Smith's district. His land was bordered by Ludwick McCartney, Henry Stone, Patrick Coyl, Ludwick Winkler, Peter Whitaker, and David Evins. from ROWAN CO NC Vacant Land Entries by Richard Enoch. On 9 September 1780 Rollen Jenkins made a 100 acre entry on New River at Rocky Shoal. Apparently he did not go through with obtaining the land because his name was drawn through and the name of Samuel Wilcoxen was shown. Regards, Bettye

    1. John Washington Jenkins
    2. Janis Wetherbee
    3. I guess I wasn't subscribed before when I sent in the cemetery listings, But I am now! I am looking for ANY information on John Washington JENKINS. He was born in IN and according to the 1880 soundex, he went by his middle name, Washington. He was b. ca 1850 - married Amanda Denton sometime around 1870. There were 2 children listed on the soundex - Lottie age 9 and Caroline age 4. I know there were at least 2 other children in the family, Arley who would have been 7 and Charles who would have been less than a year old. Washington may have died or divorced Amanda by 1880 since Amanda (also known as Emma) re-married in 1880 (the first of 5 known "remarriages"). ANY information on him will be greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks in advance... Janis in Arizona

    2. Hi Candy, I just got around to reading the Jenkins digest where you mention your Joseph Jenkins born 1732......it is entirely possible that we may match up, my ancestor was named Joseph Jenkins and in the searcing I have done, his parents are listed on census records as being born in VA and in checking with FTM online, I was sent the census for before 1850 I was sent information concerning Lincoln county, NC regarding my Joseph's father's line..."I think"....the reason I think this is my ancestor's family is because there were no family members in the county I was searching for them in before 1850...there were only Jenkins of my line in Lincoln county that had the first name that I was checking....can you please be so kind as to share what you have in your anestry and descendants so that I may check out your information against my information? My research has been very sketchy and extremely confusing or I'd send it to you.....it is 4 pages of conflicting information and I don't think you want to muddle through my long continiously screwey genealogy....can you help me out? Thank you so much in advance Susan of Tidewater VA
