    3. Evenin' All! Some of you may find this interesting. The following came through on another list tonight and thought I'ld pass it along. There are 6 JENKINS names listed; Many of you may know this already, but for the benefit of those who may not: In 1866, the state of West Virginia minted a medal for each of the soldiers who participated in the Civil War. Originally, 26,099 were minted and many given to the soldier himself. However, the state was unable to find all the veterans, leaving the medal unclaimed. In fact, there are still about 5,200 which have not been claimed and presented to the families of these veterans. The WV Archives are working to locate the descendants of these soldiers. The claim process is simple: 1. Go to the site, read about the medals and check the list. 2. If one of the names on the list matches your ancestor, follow the claim submission process detailed at the site. 3. They will work with you to verify your claim, and if validated you could receive the medal on behalf of your ancestor. Simple as that, here's the site: http://www.wvlc.wvnet.edu/history/medals.html Kathy Mahmens <[email protected]> List manager for SUMMERS, CURTIS, PARKHURST & McCALL Lists <http://www.ipa.net/~hawkeyes>

    1. Martha and James(?) Jenkins
    2. Barney R. Jenkins
    3. Karen - I have no idea the names of R.R.'s siblings. The 1850 census listed only I.B., age 1. From R.R.'s letter of 1897 we know there were other siblings but we have no knowledge of their names. R.R. and his wife, Mary Ann, were very religious and were members of the Methodist Church South. The church split during the Civil War! Was not reunited until 1938. Anyway, R.R. was a very prolific writer of his intrepretations of the bible. Many of his articles were published in the Central Texas Conference newspaper. He never mentioned any of his family in these articles. I have many of his handwritten articles. If you have other ideas, let me know. Anyone else out there with any ideas? Ray Jenkins Fort Worth, TX

    1. Can someone help me??
    2. Dear folks, I am looking for the parents of "Harrison Jenkins/also known as W.H.H.Jenkins="William Henry Harrison Jenkins"...Harrison was found in the 1850 Gates County, NC census age 29 wife Nancy Smith Jenkins age 22; it states that they were born in Virginia.....can anyone give me a clue as to how to search this guy??? I tried to find him on the Gates County 1840 census he's not there as a 19 year old or listed in a Jenkins home at age 19. I am stuck and need to help with my researching sources from someone who has been at this longer than I have. I could probably figure out what county they most likely came from if I could find a map of the counties in Virginia for 1840 and also 1820......does anyone know of a site that shows a map of the counties of Virginia for these years? It is frustrating to not know where York county, James city county, and the rest of the counties would be located on the VA map for those years....can someone help me out with my problems? Thanks guys, Susan of Tidewater VA
