Hello Harold, I have quite a bit of MD, and VA-TN JENKINS and am in the process of compiling a family history. Have you run across Phillip JENKINS late of Charles Co., MD in your travels? His grandmother, Fantelina was a "lady" one could never forget once they had her family their database. Good luck with your book. Bob Jenkins recently published a notice about "The Jenkins of Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas" by myself and Mrs. Jerry (Kay) Maclin Todd in the Dallas Public Library that is available through the Interlibrary Loan Service. I have updated this book since Kay and I wrote it in 1990 although I have not published the updated version. This book deals with the descendants of William Jenkins and Elizabeth Skelderman, Mansfield Jenkins and his wife Patience and James (Jimmy) Jenkins and Martha (Patty) Crask. The full families of the first three generations are not developed fully, but I do have some information. Only the second family of Wilson Jenkins, son of James and Patty Crask Jenkins, is developed to any extent. Wilson and his second wife, Anna (Ann) Moore, daughter of Thomas Moore and Patsy Smith, had three sons: John (Jack) Tuggle Jenkins , Wyatt B. Jenkins and Elias James Jenkins (all three born in Smith County, Tennessee, in the 1820's. Since Kay Todd and I are descendants of John T. Jenkins we developed that line. To a lesser extent we developed the descendants of Wyatt B. and Elias J. Jenkins. If I can be of any help to anyone let me know. I'll be glad to help, but did want to warn everyone that our 1990 limited published book does have its' limitations. Some of the names besides Jenkins covered in our history and genealogy are: Coleman, Taylor, Coffman, Maclin, Ray, Todd, StClair, and Richards. Harold R. For your info, you might want to read "The Jenkins of Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas," by Harold R. Coffman and Mrs. Jerry (Kay) Maclin Todd. This can be gotten from the Dallas Public Library, Interlibrary Loan Service, 1515 Young Street, Dallas, TX 75201-5499. This takes you back to William Jenkins, who came over from England in the mid 1600's. This book has answered a lot of questions for me, as this is my line. Hope you will find it helpful, too. Happy hunting. Bob Jenkins
Ms. White - I do not know if we can connect on anything! My g-g-gf's name was James, we think. He would have been born around 1800. His wife's name was Martha. At least that is my g-g-gm's name. None of our family knows her maden name. She was born in S.C. in 1807. There was a James Jenkins, wife and six children listed in the 1840 Forsyth County, GA census. The 1845 GA. STATE census lists a James M. Jenkins with eleven in the household. The 1850 Forsyth County census lists only Martha and two sons, R. R., age 4, and I.B., age 1. I assume James died in 1848 or 1849. You mention one of Samuels brothers as James. Also you list a brother, Joseph. I have a copy of a letter written by R. R. (Russell Renneau), mu g-gf to his cousin, Joseph Benjamin Jenkins, in Mississippi stating, "It's good to know I have a living sister." No name given. Also, "it's bad when a father dies leaving a poor widdow with helpless little children to be separated one from another." I have no idea where my James was born. R. R. was born 12-03-1846. I. B. does not appear in any other census. Martha and R. R. are next listed in the 1860 Chattooga County GA census. R. R. married Mary Ann Hix in 1868. Martha was living with them in the 1870 census. No record of Martha after that. J.B.'s descendants and I have been unable to tie the cousins together as neither of us can find the parents of the cousins. Oh, I have talked with a descendant of Bartlett M. Jenkins and we also think they are cousins. Ray Jenkins [email protected]
Hi: I am researching the Jenkins and associated families (Williford, Mitchell, Ward, Cook, etc.) of Bertie County, North Carolina and would appreciate help from anyone out there. So far, I have the following Jenkins family members identified: Joseph (b. 1798-1800, NC - d. ??, NC) and his wife Martha ?? (b. 1791-96, NC - d. ??, NC); their son Abram (b. 1833, NC - d. ??, NC) and his wife Mary E. Mitchell (b. 1843, NC - d. ??, NC); their son William A. (b. 8/21/1859, NC - d. 2/19/1940, Aulander, NC) and his wife Estelle Williford (b. 11/14/1869, NC - d. 4/19/1936, Aulander, NC); and their son Abram Jackson (b. 10/15/1896, Bertie Co., NC - d. 11/20/1957, Bertie Co., NC) and his wife Katie Lee Ward (b. 2/10/1899, Lewiston, NC - d. 7/7/1972, Ahoskie, Hertford Co., NC); and their son Robert Jackson (b. 5/8/1928, Mitchell, NC - d. 2/19/1988, Aulander, NC) and his wife Annie Jane Cooke (b. 10/13/1926, Wadesboro, NC - d. 7/8/1993, Marietta, GA). I would appreciate any information you could provide on this family and their ancestors and descendants. I, of course, would be glad to share any information I have in return. Thanks for any help you can provide. Gary ([email protected])
I have finally received the death certificate on William Alfred Jenkins and his wife Lina. According to Lina's Death Certificate her father was ALSO named William Jenkins (Which I think is an error) and her mother was Fanny Pate. Lina was born in AL 9/6/1874 and died in OK 12/23/1968. William's Father was William Alfred Jenkins and mother was Eunice Clark. William was born in TX 3/12/1864 died in OK 11/12/1959. Family says Eunice and William SR. met in AL and possibly married there, considering William JR's wife is from AL this is possible. However, I DON'T think that William Jenkins was also Lina's Father. I'm gettinig confused. If any of the names sound familiar, please drop me a line. Thanks, Patricia
My husband is descended from Samuel DuPre Jenkins, born 1727, died 1781. He married Elizabeth DuPre Britton (daughter of Joseph Britton and Sarah DuPre)before 1766. Most of the information I have on their descendants place them in Camden, Kenshaw County, South Carolina, Bishopville, Lee County, South Carolina, and Laudendale County, Tennessee. Does this Jenkins line ring a bell with anyone? Rosamond Abel Crawley 2406 RidgePointe Drive Jonesboro, AR 72404 E-mail: [email protected]
I am having research done for me at the Georgia Archives and have been sent the following information. Can someone help me connect my Samuel to the Samuel listed in the will. Last Will and Testament of James Jenkins, Granville Co., NC, dated 21 May 1789 (no date of probate). Wife listed as Patty Crask Jenkins Sons: Elias, Joshua, Joseph, John, James, Wilson and Samuel. Daughter: Elizabeth This James apparently lived near Oxford, Granville Co., NC near the county line. My Samuel was born around 1780-85. His daughter, Matilda, states her parents' birthplace as GA. Samuel died between 1830 and 1840 according to the census. I find him and family on the 1820 and 1830 Elbert Co., GA censuses. I find his widow, Millie, on the 1840 Elbert Co., GA census living a few houses from her daughter, Matilda, and Matilda's husband, James HOLMES. Can anyone help? Thanks. Rochelle
