    3. Good morning to the JENKINS list members, While working on my PARKER line, I received a message stating that the wife of JOSEPH PARKER born March 30, 1653 (the father of the JOSEPH born March 01, 1688/89, who married ABIGAIL SAWTELL) was not HANNAH BLOOD as I had thought, but HANNAH JENKINS. I am beginning to suspect that I have maiden vs married names mixed up as I had with my WHEELER and MERRIAM lines. If there is anyone on the list that had any information they are willing to share to help clear up the confusion, it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Rick in Thailand

    1. Jenkins in Virginia
    2. Amy M Jenkins
    3. Hey folks, I am searching for a line of Jenkins that, according to family legend, begins on Skyline Drive in Rappahanock County, where there is a Jenkins Gap and Jenkins Overlook. I haven't been able to trace it that far, yet, but this is what I have so far. My great grandfather, Clarence Braxton Jenkins was born in 1867. He married Lucy I. Ritter, who was born in 1870. I have only been able to find one sibling for Clarence B., a brother named George. At one point they lived in Boyce, in Clarke County, VA. My grandfather Clarence Ritter Jenkins was born in 1905 and married Essie Virginia Taylor, born in 1926. All four are interred in Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Winchester, Virginia. If any of this line sounds familiar, any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks, Amy

    2. Linda Katherine Jenkins-Wensel
    3. The family (in part) of William H. JENKINS and Rebecca MATHIS. Some of the following is from family stories, some from bible records, marriage/death certificates, and census records.....and as time and exploration goes on, the stories will change. William and Rebecca owned and operated a large cotton and tobacco plantation in the Nashville TN area. William H. was born in VA, so I am not sure why he went to TN. In the Davidson Co. TN census of 1850, William H. says his Occupation is a Blacksmith, and the value of the farm was $7,200....would a plantation owner list his self as a "Blacksmith"? Maybe the plantation came from the WRAY side of the marriage. In the Civil District 19 census, the WRAY family was listed as "RAY", James WRAY listed as Farmer, value of farm $10,000. The JENKINS, LANIER, and BONDURANT families all lived in the Davidson Co. TN area and all intermarried. I have not worked that all out yet. Many of the sons of Wm. H and Rebecca served in the Civil War in the confederate Army. William H. and Rebecca suffered tremendous loss because of the war, and in 1866 moved to Harrison, Boone Co. AR. I believe they may have also lived in White Co., AR at some point in time. Alice JENKINS-WRAY and Wm. J. WRAY started housekeeping in White Co., AR...but it is unknown if that is where they were married. William WRAY was a brother to Evie WRAY, who married Jerry JENKINS. I have a lot of WRAY genealogy, please contact me if you would like a look-up. Jerry G. JENKINS and Evie WRAY-JENKINS, settled in Cedar Grove on Crooked Creek, (can't fine on my map) near Harrison, AR. They owned and operated a whiskey still at Bear Creek Springs, north of Harrison in their earlier years of marriage. After a fire destroyed the property they moved to a farm on Crooked Creek south of Harrison. Then around 1902 Jerry moved his family and in-laws to Erath Co., TX, leaving the rest of the JENKINS and WRAY families in Harrison. Soon after, part of the clan moved to Hermleigh, Scurry County, TX, and eventually the rest of the families followed. Some of the descendants were known to still live there in the late 1970's. There is more information available on the following, but it will take some time to get it sorted out....but this is a start..... here we go!...._____________________________________________________________________ __ William H. 1. VA to Putnam Co., OH
    2. Hi all! In doing some research in the Putnam County, OH courthouse some time ago, I found information on the County Infirmary. P. 61 Dec. 18, 1877 Recieved Trustees Ottawa Twp. William Jenkins, a pauper, age 82 years, birthplace Culpepper County, VA, previous habits good, cause of pauperism old age and destitute, discharged in care of a Heckard. P.77 April 16, 1889 Recieved Trustees Ottawa Twp. Wm. Jinkins a pauper age 86, birthplace VA, occupation farmer, habits good, cause of pauperism old age and no home. Wm. Jinkins died July 7, 1881 was buried in the Pomeroy Cemetery at Ottawa, OH. I hope this is of some help to someone. Its not my line of Jenkins! Rats!! The change in the spelling of Jenkins to Jinkins is the original spellings in the records. Betsy McGee Rice [email protected]

    2. I am helping two cousins with their research by using my computer. We have a Theodore Jenkins. Did he have a brother named Levi Walter (or Walter Levi), a sister Mary Ann, and another brother Lonnie (and others we can't find)? At any time were they in the Carolina's? My greatgrandfather was Walter Levi Jenkins born in SC 1855. He lived in Alabama most of his life. His death certificate lists his father as W. J. Jenkins. I don't think it is the same as your William because the death certificate lists W. J.'s place of birth as SC, but was just wondering if maybe a cousin or something. But then, this info was given to the registrar by one of Levi's sons because Alabama didn't have birth certificates at the time of his birth Visit my web page at http://members.aol.com/kkirk6/genealogy.html to see if there might be any connections.
