    2. Hi, Yes, it is strange that the information at familysearch changed since I was there just a couple weeks ago, the date on the site now is an obvious error. Looks like the newspaper article that was quoted to me about my Cooper was mistaken about Gallia, Lanier does not mention Gallipolis in his book. Therefore his Cooper is a different one than mine. Genealogy is so much of chasing leads and running in circles! I got the book myself yesterday and I agree it is a beautiful book but I wish it had more family tree details. Thanks for all your help and input. D

    3. Good Morning, Diane, Family Search cannot change information submitted to them-that would be a copyright violation, just as Rootsweb/Ancestry cannot change information submitted to the World Connect Trees. I have read "Jefferson's Children The Story of One American Family" by Shannon Lanier and Jane Feldman cr. 2000. It is a beautiful book; but I was disappointed in the lack of verified family information. On page 21 of Mr. Lanier's book he shows his family tree beginning with Sarah Byrd. Sarah Hemings Byrd is found in the Woodson Family Tree: Family Trees-Woodson Family Site: http://www.woodson.org/tree.shtml Woodson Family Main Site: http://www.woodson.org And Debbie Fox has some Jefferson- Hemings Family Information on her site: http://www.geocities.com/pifox1/index.html I am sad to say neither of these sites show documentation of information. The Beverly Gray mentioned in the book has her own site: http://www.coax.net/people/lwf/gray.htm I've spoken to Beverly when she was researching the Hale-Hughes-Wales families of Southern OH. My husband's direct lines are Woods-Hughes-Wales. We live in Pike Co. OH and I will try my best to find more information on these lines. I do encourage everyone on the list to read Mr. Lanier's book-it is very insightful. John died sometime in 1862, I will have to try to get Family Search to fix it, wonder why it was changed to begin with. D

    3. Good Morning, D., my GGGreat Grandmother was Mary Cooper Osborne Bayes. I have Mary's Death Cert for verification of family lines. I have info on the Bayes-Cooper-Osborne lines-but none on the Cooper-Wilcox family. You can do a search for all OH families here: http://www.scioto.org/Search/search.html Several Cooper families will be shown, but it seems none in Gallia Co. OH. Many Cooper family members list themselves as Native American, and some as Melungeon. Donald Panter Yates is an excellent Cooper family researcher-but none of Donald's Cooper family migrated into OH. I will read Shannon's book on the family to see what documentation he uses for family information. On Family Search-there is listed a John Cooper who married Lethia Wilcox on Oct. 11, 1866 in Gallipolis OH. www.familysearch.com The Cooper family is doing DNA research, but I do not rely much on DNA research in any family line. Always verify your family information with documentation, without documentation family history is fiction-IMHO. Best, Ramona

    3. Good Morning, D., you did not give much information to help in your research of the Cooper Family of Gallia Co. OH. I believe the Cooper family maybe connected to the Woodson Family, but am not sure how well the family lines have been documented. Here are a few sites I believe may be of help in your research. Gallia Co. OH: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohgallia/gallia.htm African Americans in Southern Ohio: http://www.seorf.ohiou.edu/~xx057/ Sally Hemings and Her Children: http://www.monticello.org/plantation/hemingscontro/appendixh.html The University of VA Library has several articles on line including the Deed of manumission to James Hemings dated 1794 December 24; and the Will and codicil of Thomas Jefferson dated 1826 March 16 and March 17 which gives freedom to Burwell, John Hemings, Joe Fosset, Madison Hemings, and Eston Hemings. 2. Herb-- 1. No, a 6% probability based on DNA evidence and likely accessibility to Sally (e.g. day's drive to Monticello when TJ was in residence). 2. Our vote was not unanimous, but 93%. Please use accurate facts in any future correspondence with third parties. Today I spoke for 2 hours in front of the Colorado Chapter of the Descendants of the Pilgrams on Jefferson-Hemings, and was very warmly received indeed.
