The oriinal frame of the home is still in excellent condition and occupied having been remodeled in the 1850's and remodeled again since the second world war with asbestos siding with the exception of the dining room and kitchen which had been built slightly away but connected with the main body of the house and has since been torn away. The main abody of the house is two stories having four rooms downstairs and four upstairs. Grandpa Redding owned 35 slaves in 1854 and several of the old cabins were still standing and in use up until three or four years ago when we were there. The cabins were built by mortising and using hammered nails. The slaves built the stone wall around the Jarrell Cemetery which is situated right at the back of the house. There is no gate in the wall. You have to step over. There is also a colored Jarrell Cemetery a mile or two away. you know the slaves usually took the names of their owners.
