notes by Rembert Briston Jarrell, 28 May 2008 Rembert Luff jarrell was a WW II infantry officer, having commanded a company in the 349th Infantry Regiment the 88th Division until being wounded in action in Italy in 1944. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and the Purple Heart, and was medcally retired due to wounds recieved in action. His wife, my mother, never remarried in the 18 years after his death and is buried with him at Arlington. I would note that in my life I never heard him complain or bemoan his service or wounds, despite having lost two inches of a leg(in the middle) 28 inches of small intestine, his hearing, or having to spend a year in a body cast. (which I found out only from by aunt, because my father would never talk about it). I have always felt I had to earn the freedom and comfort that that kind of service, sacrifice, and attitude bought for me.
